  1. We've used Tibbitt's Exterminating for almost 30 years. Family owned, great people, can't go wrong there.
  2. Bring her to see Santa on the square in Marietta in December, or to the tree lighting in Marietta on December 2, or the Hiram tree lighting on December 3 and let your child decide. Santa represents the Spirit of Christmas, the loving and giving. "He errs who thinks Santa enters through the chimney. Santa enters through the heart." Charles W. Howard, founder of the world's oldest Santa School. (We are proud grads of the CWH Santa School.)
  3. That's wonderful!! What's your book?
  4. The docs thought my DIL was going to have a 10-pounder, but little one only weighed 6 lbs 8 oz. DIL was very happy he was not 10 lbs!
  5. I have a friend who works at the courthouse and knows what's going where, and she knows nothing about this corner. There's already a Kroger about 3 or 4 miles from that intersection - at Crossroads. We're wondering if the land owner just sold his timber, since we saw logging trucks several times. ??
  6. Depending on the birthday date (before Christmas?), how about having Santa come to the party and visit with the kids? A good time to have photos taken for your Christmas cards, too.
  7. Pat-a-Cake Bakery is alive and well and in Ellijay, GA. They are usually at the Marietta Farmers Market on Saturday mornings. I think they are only open in Ellijay Thursday - Saturday. If you want something special, call them and they will bring it to the Farmers Market for you. We love their fudge pies!
  8. I love sunrises, sunsets, the way the sky changes at all hours during the day. I used to think the sky was just blue with white clouds until I started taking art classes and realized just how many colors are in the sky, and Paulding does have some amazing sunsets! I love watching and listening to birds. We have several bird feeders and a feeder for the deer so we can sit at our kitchen table and watch the birds flying in from all directions, chipmunks, rabbits, deer all enjoying their quiet place in our woods. My DD says it looks like a Disney movie out there! We had family in for a few d
  9. A friend was telling me yesterday that he has been eating only things that will not have a shelf-life of more than 2 weeks: fresh fruit, veggies, meats. No processed foods, cereals, or anything that can stay in your pantry for 2 weeks or more and still be good to eat. He says he feels much better now and only shops the perimeter of the grocery store, no inside aisles.
  10. I hope you can find out about these photos, and please let us know what you find!
  11. The Trash or Treasure Show will have a booth in Marietta (on the Square) on Saturday, Sept. 18 from 11 am til 2 pm for verbal approximations. This is part of the Marietta Streetfest event.
  12. My DD gave my DIL a baby shower at the tea room in Powder Springs. They prepared the food, decorated the tables and we all had a great time. We didn't play any games, DIL opened presents between courses. My DD gave each attendee a teacup and saucer with a small Yankee Candle in the cup, wrapped them in clear wrap and tied with blue bows and baby feet charms. Everyone loved the whole experience.
  13. Of all the islands, Maui was our favorite in the 10 days we were in HI. Oahu has the most traffic and people, but also has the Arizona, Waikiki Beach, and other sites we wanted to see. We flew into Oahu and took the 7-day cruise of the islands. Loved all of it and would love to do it again!
  14. The Na Pali Coastline is beautiful, but has to be viewed from boat or air. Strenuous hiking trails there, sheer cliffs, etc. We were on a cruise ship and spent a little time on Kauai. There was a lady on the ship who lived in HI and took people on camping, hiking trips through Na Pali, but those were week-long events. We did take a riverboat to the Fern Grotto. Didn't have much time to really explore the island. We did view the Na Pali coastline from the ship. Beautiful, as is all of Hawaii.
  15. My DIL gave my DD, who loves teas, a teacup. Or how about movie passes?
  16. There is a place in East Cobb called Sips n Strokes. Saturday is Family Day from 1-3:00 (check their site for details and the painting you'll each do). There is a $25 fee for each person, but you each create a painting that you take home with you that day. They furnish everything you need except your 'sip'. (Bring your own drink and/or snack.) I'm going Saturday night for the adult class - looks like a lot of fun!
  17. You are right!! My DD had a captain tell her once that if they could get a coke machine through the door, she wouldn't have a job! Ignorant!! Most pilots have no clue what training the FA's go through. My own son, also a pilot, had no idea until DD went through the FA training and told him all they have to do and know. He was shocked and admitted that he had no idea what FA's did.
  18. That's what most people think, just a waitress in the air. Actually, the flight attendants are there for passenger safety. They are there to enforce the FAA rules that everyone loves to ignore - like, turning off electronic equipment (phones, games, laptops, etc. - ask a pilot sometime what it sounds like through their headsets when people in the plane have their electronics turned on), to remain seated until the plane is stopped at the gate (most injuries occur on the tarmac while the plane is still going to the gate because those few who think they don't have to obey the rules get up, star
  19. Trips to the library for story time, a walk in the park, play on the playground. Have a tea party. My DIL takes her 1-1/2 year old to the toy store and lets him play with things. If he holds onto something for awhile, she'll buy it for him. That way you know what interests them before you buy a bunch of stuff.
  20. It could be that's she around someone who is a carrier of the strep. You can be a carrier and never have strep yourself. My son had it about 7 times in a row when he was young - it would clear up with the meds but come right back a week later. We all (immediate family) had to have throat cultures to see if any one of us was a carrier. We were not, and the doctor was one step away from having the health department go out and do cultures on the entire elementary school when my son's strep finally went away. We changed his toothbrush and the strep went away and stayed away. I don't remember
  21. Aaaahhhh, I remember the "good ole' days" when a birthday party meant you only served cake and ice cream, all homemade! And everyone was happy with that. No theme parties, no specialty food parties, just fun and games and cake and ice cream. Your friends came to your party because they liked you, not because of what you were serving.
  22. My children were involved with a theatre group for many years. Peacock feathers were not allowed in the theatre or in floral arrangements sent to the kids on opening night. Our director said they were bad luck.
  23. Dorothy, I don't think we're in Kansas anymore. Did anyone get the license number of that truck?
  24. After trying off and on for about 35 years, I finally can make the chicken and dumplings like my late MIL. I still can't fry chicken though. My mom was a great cook, never measured anything, and was the Queen of Leftovers (if there were any!) Cold biscuits became bread pudding (which I still can't make) or huge sugar cookies, white bread became another bread pudding, but totally different from the biscuit one. My mom and 2 of her sisters could play any musical instrument by ear and could sing really well, but they only did it on rare occasions. I've always wanted to be able to do that,
