I Invite you all to Hartsfield
HiPlainsDrifter replied to dumbestgirlintheworld's topic in RECENT TOPICS
I had an interesting encounter years ago while flying one way out west. With a one way ticket of course I was singled out to be searched. Everyone had the "what did that guy do?" look on their face when I was pulled from the line and taken to the plexi glass booth to have my carry on searched and have a second wand search. The two women that searched my bag were plundering through it while their eyes were on each other as they talked about some guy that was asking one of them out. I watched them closely as they never looked into my bag during the search. I actually had hypodermic needles for m -
I've been hearing much about airport screenings lately
HiPlainsDrifter replied to nschur's topic in RECENT TOPICS
The screenings that are taking place now are not at the same level that they were shortly after 9/11. There are different techniques and new technology being used. It is amusing sometimes when I sit back and hear people talk about how people in other countries live and how little freedoms they have. I hear the criticisms of the governments who search homes and stop people on the street to check papers. The images of guards wearing jack boots walking dogs and demanding id and searching people randomly or even just looking for criminal activity. The check points where armed guards set up and ask -
I doubt in this economy a new stadium will be approved via taxpayer money. I scratched my head when the dome was built in the first place. Sorry football is an outdoor sport. I understand cities like Detroit and Minnesota having a dome but if Green Bay and Chicago can play out doors then we can too. I do question the idea of an open stadium for the super bowl though. The NFL seems to like the idea of having the super bowl in places where people can sip on margaritas and wear tank tops and sandals, yeah that's a foot ball atmosphere. The last two years we've had ice and snow around that time, w

The game wasn't won with a questionable call because the flag never left the officials back pocket. The game was won because Roddy White walked into the end zone with the Raven's DB watching. As far as the other 6 games, I can't recall any this season where the Falcons won on a "questionable call or play."

Way to go Falcons! No matter how many seconds are on the clock they never give up. With all the drama we experienced years ago, it's nice to just be winning games and let other teams deal with issues. I suppose now we'll start to see some fans popping out from under rocks even though that have been winning all year. We have way too many fair weather fans here compared to other cities. Last night was a night to be truly proud of if you're a real Falcons fan. To have the NFL Commissioner at the game, Veterans Day, broadcast in prime time and to get the win. Not only was the team on display , but

Years ago someone told me to try Publix subs and I questioned them as to whether or not a grocery store could make a sub to compete with a sub shop, well they can. I tried the Italian sub with Boars Head meat and have been hooked since. So yes Publix subs are awesome. I have to say though I tried the NY Steamer at Fire House Subs and I love it too. I haven't tried any of their other sandwiches because I like that one sandwich so much.

The wife and I were making dinner last night and our gas stove gave out. Burners work but the oven will not start, most likely starter gone. We were very frustrated, but happy that it happened last night and not on Thanksgiving in a couple of weeks. We just decided to go and buy a new stove with it being the season of cooking. The one we have is very old and is out dated, and besides we were planning to buy a new one very soon, why not now. I've purchased from the usual Best Buy and HD etc. We bought a few from the HD clearance center, but obviously that's closed now. Anyone have a suggestion

I've never had a set recipe and probably change it up every time. I can say it's definitely that time of year. Although I usually use ground beef, I do on occasion use venison when I have it, and have even tried bison. The rest is just a mix of tomatoes, onions, red kidney beans, jalapeno peppers etc. I love to cook it on a day when it's very cold and rainy, sleet/snow etc in the crock pot and let the smell take over the house. Sit back and have a bowl while watching one of my favorite westerns with a fire going, now you're talking.

This is a pet peeve of mine as well. I have been behind someone who came to a complete stop at a flashing yellow light and it drove me crazy. I just sit there and say, "look at these idiots." Same thing happens to me as well when I "slow" down and drive through one with caution, gee wonder where I got that idea, and everyone blows their horn. Then there's the dumbfounded ones that stop at the blinking red lights and look like they just got dropped into a foreign country. They look up as they are stopped like, " do I wait here till it turns green or stops blinking?"

RIP Sparky Anderson - A baseball giant

Another legend. Man do I remember Sparky during the days of growing up watching baseball. How could you not like him. He will be missed. -
In 1 month my son will be on the other side of the world

I know you have to be proud. Thank your son for his service. If you are like my wife and I, skype and other forms of communication become very important when they are over seas. -
As far as tv, my years as a young boy were definitely spent staring at the screen when Charlies Angels hit the air. Jaclyn Smith was my fav. Another one that used to make me break my neck to get to the tv as her show started, was Linda Carter on Wonder Woman. I dream of Jeanie was picked up in repeats by different networks during that time, but man I still thought Barbara Eden was something else. As far as movies go I never really had a fav until the 80's in high school when Molly Ringwald came along, took me by storm.

I know some people will say it's just an animal, but there's something inherently wrong with kids like these. To actually gain enjoyment over stomping to death a defenseless wild animal just to see it die shows that the person's brain is geared a certain way. This is not seeking an animal for food as a hunter would, this is pure evil psychotic behavior. I hear of kids doing things like this and I think they are just practice sessions for much more brutal criminal acts in the future.

Soldiers, sacrifice, the Stars & Stripes
HiPlainsDrifter replied to HiPlainsDrifter's topic in RECENT TOPICS
I agree, they are ALL heroes. -
I saw this headline this morning and clicked on the story not knowing the content. Once I saw the pictures accompanying the article and read the story, I was both very moved and at the same time saddened. I don't often look at pictures related to our ongoing wars just because it strikes too close to home with me being the father of a son deployed. However I do watch the news sometimes and catch the 5 seconds given to our men and women fighting over seas. It's a quick mono tone discussion of what happened today in war news, and then it's on to a chipper tone of the daily Lindsey Lohan or Tiger

I have to totally agree with this statement also. If someone is religiously uptight enough that they feel uneasy celebrating Halloween on Sunday, they probably shouldn't be celebrating it to begin with.
-
I would assume so. And yes you added the perfect acronym.

My subdivision did the same thing. I knew they could make decisions as far as structural and appearance, but holidays? I could be a jackass and tell the kids at the door on Saturday that I didn't get the memo, but I don't want them to miss out because of a few over zealous HOA members. I'll have candy for both nights, Saturday and then Oct31st Halloween. I might however write the HOA and inquire as to whether or not we as a subdivision will be celebrating Christmas on Saturday, which is the 25th, or will it be moved to Sunday, since it is a religious holiday. I need to know these things ahead

This is not the first time that modern technology has been rumored to have been carried back in time by some "time traveler." There is even evidence that our own founding father George Washington used some type of modern technology to win our very own independence. How did he get his hands on it? Who knows but there there is some video proof. George Washington uses modern technology to defeat British

It's a crew member from the starship Enterprise talking on a communicator. I took a moment to imagine if I were to go back to 1928. For one, I would not just walk down the street with my phone up to my ear. Wanna talk about bringing attention to yourself? Oh gee look that guy is walking down the street talking on some little box he is holding to his ear. I'm sure that Barbara and David Mikkelson, or Snopes as most people call them, the gods of truth will look into this one. I have a feeling it's a hoax and not just a coincidence.

I can add it to the list of high profile shows that everyone talks about that I have never seen one episode and for some reason have no interest in watching. American Idol,DWTS,Survivor,Lost,Glee and the list goes on. It garners one heck of a following though, I will give them credit. My wife and I have co workers who talk about it constantly and ask us to watch to no avail. To each his own.

Why do people think they have a right?
HiPlainsDrifter replied to DALLASGIRL0618's topic in RECENT TOPICS
Sorry I know people will think I am harsh, but stealing food from someone at work is a sign of being a low life. If you end up with some serious digestive problems because you ate food you STOLE from your co worker due to the fact they placed a laxative in their lunch, then you deserve your suffering, you are NOT innocent. This is a true story, told by a family member. You have to understand this was someone in their eighties and the incident took place in the 20's. They too had someone stealing their lunch everyday at their job at the mill. Back in those days you only got so much time and the -
We're celebrating Sunday because well that's the 31st. Our problem is apparently our subdivision has decided that Saturday is the day it will be celebrated. Guess they will be surprised, we think for ourselves and the calendar on our wall says Sunday is Halloween. Apparently this type of thing doesn't happen all over the country after speaking to my wife and friends, that are from different regions, who were totally confused as to why the day would be changed.

The wife and I just got back from a weekend trip through the mountains that took us through north Georgia into Tennessee. I had just taken our son there last month but we wanted to have a weekend getaway to see the fall colors. We visit often, either on drives, to go hiking and camping etc. I've been at times when there were virtually no people to be found anywhere for a hundred miles and other times when it was slightly crowded. This trip however was the busiest traffic wise we have ever seen. Note to self: Next year do not visit when leaves are in peak time. I should have taken a hint when t

The phone calls will make your face light up. Write plenty of letters, mail is about the only contact they have and receiving a letter means a lot to them. You will miss him very much, but know that he is doing something to better himself that also protects our very freedoms.
