The power off for "days" got me thinking. Since we don't live up in the Blairesville or Brasstown Bald area, how many times in the past 40 years have any of you had your power off due to cold weather related storms, for more than 12 hours?

People traveling in the left lane below the speed limit. It's bad in the morning because I'm trying to make it to appointments for work on time and it angers me at the end of the day because I want to get home. If you have a fear of traveling at the posted speed limit, if your car will not reach 45 miles per hour, if you are high on drugs, please move over and let me at least drive the posted speed limit. People who put a minimum of 3 car spaces between them and the car and front of them at a light. This especially makes me mad at the short lights. There are 5 million people in the Atlant

So so many that I love. Everyone I know thinks my music taste is so wide that it borders being strange. I just appreciate a lot of different artist. I absolutely love music and always find a way of connecting it to a point in my life or a situation I'm experiencing. My wife and family know that although I may not have written a lot down on paper, they can look through my music collection and there are songs there that I relate to that will tell my story. Here's a few I like: Rush,Pink Floyd,Led Zepplin,The Rolling Stones, Neil Young, Lynard Skynard, The Allman Brothers, Eric Clapton, Cr

Hey I saw Rocky IV. Drago trained indoors in the heated facility, running around the track, lifting weights, spas, blah blah blah, wimpy wimpy. What did Rocky do? He trained in the snow! He lifted trees and stuff out in the snow covered woods, ran outside in the freezing cold temperatures, even grew a beard. What were the results? He whipped Drago's climate controlled trained Russian butt that's what, because Rocky had become even tougher and Drago was a wimp.

Time to clear the shelves of every loaf of bread and every gallon of milk because we all know that eating slices of bread and drinking milk is very nourishing when there are "sprinkles" in the area. Buy up all the batteries and prepare for Arctic Blast Atlanta Chapter 2! Wanna know what I don't understand? People go crazy like there's an apocalypse when there's mention of 1/4 inch of snow 100 miles north of here. Let there be a tornado warning, which means a funnel cloud has been spotted, one that can drive a 2x4 through your skull and people will decide to go to out on the town like the

I'm loving the "cooler" temperatures. I like my seasons, when it's summer I want it on the warmer side and right now we're heading through the winter and well, it should be cold. Cold weather is good for you sometimes, keeps us southerners from becoming soft, this will toughen you up some.

I have never been a Cowboys fan but there have been a hand full of coaches and players and associated with the team that I did like and respect. Don was one of them for sure. One of the original Ice Bowl players and a tough player on the field. Anyone remember the commercials he used to do for a certain beverage? I remember them from my youth. Tipping a glass of Lipton tea to Don. We'll miss him.

They are playing some good football no doubt. However they need to bring up the intensity a bit now. It's time to play 60 mins of that same adrenaline level that they use in the 4th quarter. Going into the playoffs they will need to control the game. If they play at the same level I promise you there will be more than a 7 or 10 point deficit to overcome. If they can't start putting more pressure on QB's and sacking them no less, someone besides Abraham, bypass the offensive penalties and step up the secondary, it will get nasty. Not to mention the Super Bowl. Playing like they did yesterday in

I'd say you're pretty much on the mark. I have confidence that things will work out if anything , the money making opportunity that will not be passed up by the owners. A season in pro sports that goes into a shut down either via lock out or strike, and yes there is a difference, is a huge loss. The NHL and MLB have seen it and suffered financially. I had to see my Atlanta Braves play their best season in their history all the way up to winning the World Series in a year after a strike. A year filled with angry fans and half empty ball parks. I really hope things are resolved in the NFL soon a

All you have to do is listen to the local newscasters and you can get an idea as to why people panic. I watched the evening news last night on Fox and the anchor described the temperature on Saturday as "brutal". I looked at my wife and asked her, it did reach into the high 50's if not low 60's right with some wind? So either this newscaster spent the day in Chicago or she is extremely cold natured. The idea of buying up all of the milk and bread I have always found to be to funniest thing for a few reasons. One: When it does snow in this area, the longest we ever see an accumulation on the gr

Great article , always good to read something like that about our troops. You know you have to be very proud. I thank him for his service.

Anybody remember Gov Purdue canceling school a few years back in anticipation of a snow day. Needless to say the sky was clear and the kids enjoyed a day off.

The fees proposed by Comcast sound like something created in the back room by some mobsters who want to charge protection fees. I have Comcast and I must say their customer service and product reliability ranks the lowest of any thing I have bought or subscribed to in my life. Oh and the on demand service that they want to force me to use? I can't remember how many times I've sat down to watch a show, we don't watch the over priced movies, and the message pops up " will be available shortly, check system". Finally after 15 minutes of re starting we get the show we want. I can't tell you what n

Jump starting your Thanksgiving cooking tonight?
HiPlainsDrifter replied to MeWhoElse's topic in RECENT TOPICS
Sorry for your loss. It's a great way to honor him on this holiday by making a famous dish of the person you love. I made two pecan pies and two sweet potato pies last night. -
What are you thankful for this year?
HiPlainsDrifter replied to dumbestgirlintheworld's topic in RECENT TOPICS
I am thankful that I am still cancer free. I was diagnosed two years ago just days before Thanksgiving, so now being free of the big C is something I look forward to giving thanks for in the biggest way. I'm thankful for my beautiful and loving wife who has stood by my side through some sunny days and horrendous storms. She's held my hand the whole way and I don't know what I would do without her. I'm thankful for my great kids, who make me smile when they are miles away. They each have a personality that touches me in a unique way. One of those kids is a son who is serving in the Army and is -
I wish they could come out and dominate their games more, but I'll take the win. They looked weaker in the first half but had to get their game face on in the second half. If they are going to make their way through the playoffs, they will have to have more control of the game, meaning the entire game. This will be very important when they play the Saints again, as well as the Eagles and if they were to face the Giants. They will not be able to play 30 mins of the game and beat these teams in the last half. It's not just me thinking this, Smith said it yesterday in the locker room, when he sai

This is an awesome show and I would watch it now matter where it was filmed but the fact that it's filmed in Atlanta makes it even better. It has good character development development and so far nothing too corny like a lot of zombie films, even the great Romero, seem to want to stray towards. It seems that Zombies are popular right now and that's cool with me. I was telling my youngest son that at least with Zombies we wont have team this and team that. There are no sexy zombies, so even if they are running around with their shirts off in the movie, I doubt girls will be checking them out. W

Things that would get me out of bed at 4:30-5:00 am
HiPlainsDrifter replied to wenfen's topic in RECENT TOPICS
I've never gotten out of bed early on black Friday to go buy stuff. Days off from work come few and far between and I refuse to spend them getting up early to go stand in line buying stuff. Now the Apocalypse arriving, house fire, these are things that would make me get out of bed that early this Friday. -
I've never tried it, but I will say they have one hell of a marketing campaign. I see their displays everywhere at the grocery store and the liquor stores. Are they trying to bill themselves as a regional microbrewery? I found a dark beer I like years ago and always go back to it during the cooler times of the year, Samuel Smith (not Samuel Adams). I especially like to sit back during a colder day with a book and drink their Oatmeal Stout.

Here's the story with mugshots. Story, mugshots included.

The Book of Yaak by Rick Bass. I loved Winter: Notes From Montana, and this one is pretty good too.
-
Well I took a look at their mug shots and I'm sorry I disagree. I didn't see three boys or three men. All I saw were three pieces of crap that like to take from society. They bleed us of what we worked hard for either by the property they take or destroy, or by the expenses needed to house their useless a--- when they are caught. There are takers and givers in society and these are definitely takers. Parasites.

US may disable all in-car mobile phones
HiPlainsDrifter replied to markdavd's topic in RECENT TOPICS
Again I support this all the way. This will keep us much more safe, hats off to Washington. Now that that they see the danger of myself having the capability of talking on a phone in my car, or even my passenger talking, his voice could distract me, it's time to move to other dangers. Next target should be the fast food drive thru. The idea that someone can hand you a 1/2 pound burger, large fry and 16 oz drink through your window and then have you eat that while driving is scary. They need to be shut down immediately. If people want food they should be made to come inside and buy and eat on t -
So funny, my grandfather used to say close your barn door before your mule gets out.

Washington State Bans Alcoholic Energy Drinks
HiPlainsDrifter replied to zoocrew's topic in RECENT TOPICS
I couldn't agree more with the ban, we need the govt to protect us because sometimes we don't know what's good and what's bad. What better group to decide than our elected politicians. I also have wondered about a ban on other things I encounter during our daily lives. I for one would like the govt to look into some of these four door cars on the market. I bought a four door car that on my first drive I hit the gas and could have killed myself. I had no idea by the looks of my car, it being a four door sedan etc, that it would be capable or higher speeds. It didn't look like a corvette or any
