  1. Well I went down and got this all cleared up. The folks at the Paulding County registrars office were very nice and professional. They've been getting a lot of people coming in upset with these letters. The media makes this sound like everyone is "just fine" and understanding with the letters when they are sent to the wrong people, but obviously that's not always the case. I showed up as an American citizen on the registrar's computers and to a surprise, on the GA DODS system as well. They could not explain why the state sent the letter to me. I will say after reading the article, I fit none o
  2. And a big red flag doesn't go off somewhere that this is wrong? The other part of this story is that I got the letter the day before I left for a very long trip to visit our son for 4th of July , who is serving in the Army. He will be deployed in October and we wanted to spend as much time with him as possible. By the way he is American also. I mentioned the letter to him as a joke and we laughed at the time and then celebrated our country's birthday that day. Once I got back I became angry again. One part of me wanted to tell them to take their voter registration and stick it, but that's what
  3. Thank you. I think a few people missed the point. I have no problem with showing my ID at the poll to prove who I am. I have never had a problem with showing proof of citizenship when requested in the right situation. This is NOT that situation. I am being accused of lying about my citizenship when I completed my voter registration. This conclusion is based on information the state says they gathered from another agency, who says on their computers it shows that I am an American citizen in good standing. So before anyone goes on the tangent about illegals and proving citizenship before you tak
  4. I had my license renewed a month ago with no problems. My problem is that the government, no matter what arm, seems to always target the wrong person. It's when they can send a letter to me asking me to prove my citizenship, but the illegal gang banger who runs the streets never gets questioned, but instead gets a free ride. The guy at the airport with the bomb in his underwear makes it on board the plane, but the little kid with play dough? He gets stopped short of a cavity search.
  5. The state of Georgia has sent out letters to numerous citizens that questions their citizenship after stating that the information on file with the Secretary of State was compared to information with Department of Driver Services. It says that federal law requires one to be a US citizen in order to register to vote and at the time you registered you stated that you were, but the information at Driver Services does not match that information. It reads that the person must contact the local registrar and clear up the matter by showing documents to prove citizenship by a certain date or a heari
  6. I have felt bad for companies in the past when they folded, and then there were times when I felt like they did it to themselves. Anytime a company fails to listen to it's customers and their consumer demands, they are doomed. I see it too often when a company will lend an ear to a consumer, ask them what they want, how they want it, and then say, "Well we hear you, but this is the way we think you should have it." Guess what? The consumer walks. I can see fully how Block Buster could go away. They have failed to adapt to changing technology and show no sign of gaining ground. I have had a
  7. I'm not anti-bicycle by any means. I ride a mountain bike when I can, but I choose to go to some of the local trails. Frankly I don't have the guts to ride on a local road and it's not my type of riding anyway. I can't say I get angry when I come up on a rider unless they are just impeding traffic. When I lived further in close to the city I would encounter riders everyday who would ride 6 or 7 wide at a slower pace than my car. Folks this will get you pretty mad when you're going up a hill for the next 1/4 mile or so and you're trying to get home. I've always thought that if you're riding on
  8. I agree he just doesn't have it right now. I think he's on the way down to the minors if he's lucky. The Braves can't chance his performances right now and Bobby has been more than patient with him. I don't dislike the guy and can see he seems to have some awesome pitching ability, but just can't fine tune it to win games. With that being said I heard the boos when he left the field and although I was furious with him blowing the lead, I felt bad for him at that moment. I don't agree with booing your own players, sorry. We're Atlanta, not some of the other cities around the country. Unless a p
  9. I am a prostate cancer survivor who was diagnosed at an early age just a year and a half ago. I wanted to openly express my happiness and gratitude for the opportunity to share time with my kids on this Father's Day. With prostate cancer affecting so many men in America, Father's Day is always a special day for the survivors, families and a time to remember the ones who have passed away. I am not trying to preach, but for the father in your life, please urge him to be screened for this cancer when the time is appropriate. I am sitting down with my sons today and watching a Braves game together
  10. This teacher in RI gave the students an assignment to create a hat for crazy hat day so this student designs one to honor our military men and women. He decorates a hat that carries an American flag with toy soldiers. I can't explain this one, the story says enough. Talk about rules run stupid. Banned Hat
  11. This topic does sound like something in a Larry the Cable Guy routine. I have often wondered about the Hiram Walmart and why it differs so much from the one on 120 between 92 and east paulding. I always go to the 120 location anyway since it's closer, but even if I'm shopping on 278 I'll drive back to the better one. Sounds like the Hiram location is definitely a place to go at 2AM in the morning to people watch.
  12. For the people that do have a problem with showing ID, let your wallet be stolen one time and you"ll think differently. I had my one moment of stupidity and after taking my wallet out to pay for food at a drive through I left it in my console rather than putting back in my back pocket. I lived in an apartment at the time and the low life's cruising the neighbor"hood" that night broke my window and did what any nonworking leech on society does, stole my wallet. Within two hours they had charged $400 in merchandise from BP gas and Walmart. One thing alot of people don't realize is that the self
  13. I worked outside in it for 4 hours yesterday doing yard work, felt like I lost 10 pounds. It's one thing to be outside when you're getting paid for it, but when it's your own dedicated labor it's another story. I was thinking back when I was a kid and used to stay outside the entire summer riding bikes, playing baseball etc. never bothered me. I just love listening to the local newscasters who are obviously from other areas of the country. They start the news cast with how surprised they are about how hot it is outside. All I could say was, no ---- Sherlock! It's Georgia in the Summer time! It
  14. The act of shining a light on the differences is exactly why I don't like some of the things mentioned in this topic. The "Black History Month", instead of focusing a light on the color of skin, why can't our history lessons incorporate ALL Americans regardless of their race. This country was built by a multitude of races and ethnic backgrounds, there are not enough months in a year to focus equally on each group. The difference of skin color is never pointed out when other Americans are highlighted. I thought that even Dr. King even wanted a world where a person could be judged on his accompl
  15. And a pilot and a few flight attendants can get 100+ passengers unbuckled on an airplane? So an airplane that's flying 30,000ft at 500mph= mandatory seat belt . School bus with 60 kids going 50mph on an Atlanta rd= no mandatory seat belt. I hear the "oh it's a big vehicle argument, then I see that larger trucks are required, so I'm only left to be confused.
  16. I thought it was a pretty good movie. It was one of those movies where you want the main character to get his act together and you cringe at some of things he does. They had things down to the detail, like every time when he got out of the truck he emptied his jug, even the case or buck pocket knife he was using to cut his food in the hotel room. I said to myself, now I guy like that would carry a pocket knife like that, smoke in front of anyone, and do exactly what he's doing. My grandfather played and taught guitar around the pool halls and honkytonks a long time ago. He was a big Hank Willi
  17. I've owned a number of different brands of sunglasses over the years from Ray Ban, Gargoyle ( had to run out and get a pair when I saw Terminator and then later being a #3 fan)Vuarnet, Oakley etc. My eyes are very sensitive to light and add to it the fact that I get headaches on a regular basis, sunglasses are a necessity. I tend to spend around $100 or so on a pair, but I will wear them for about 3 years, so with the quality and the length of time I think I get my moneys worth. I understand some people don't want to spend a lot on sunglasses and some can't. I would however be cautious of trus
  18. So sorry for the loss of your friend. My sympathies and prayers to the family.
  19. Looks like we may have gotten back into that good ole GA summer weather pattern I used to know from years gone by. Sunny, hot and humid through out the day and then 4 o clock bam! Thunderstorms and rain. One thing I noticed, the local news doesn't consider PC to be of any importance when it comes to giving severe thunder storm warnings. I'm sitting there yesterday watching the race as lightning is flashing everywhere and the sky is dark, patio furniture is flying across the deck in the wind and is there a warning anywhere? No. Not that I need one, I can see it coming. I had to go upstairs for
  20. Thanks to your son and son-in-law. Hug em Love em and Thank em, is what my wife and I do for my son and even his friends. I watched the trailer and just it alone was enough to bring tears. I would have thought this movie would have been talked about a bit more, as it looks really good. It does seem like a perfect movie to watch for Memorial Day, but after seeing the trailer given our situation, I know for certain my wife will not watch. Our son is in a combat related MOS and movies I used to enjoy watching are something I avoid now given the circumstances. It's the reason I never saw The Messe
  21. I would like to see it now that you peaked my interest. For some reason this is a film that missed my radar. I doubt I can get the wife to watch it with me as it's hard for me to watch these films as well sometimes with our son serving. Thanks for the reviews.
  22. I really liked Dennis Hopper's work and loved him in Apocalypse Now. He had a way of being very animated in his acting that added a sense of interest to any movie he took part in during his career. He was one of those actors whose names would raise my interest in the movie. I have been following his health condition closely after surviving prostate cancer myself and celebrating 1 1/2 years of remission. His cancer spread quickly and now he will be missed by his family and fans. I was fortunate to be diagnosed by a physician who starts testing at 40 years of age, most start at 50. Although rare
  23. I always thought they made the intersections look trashy. I never really had a problem with yard sale signs as long as they are removed, but the business signs are bad, not to mention kind of funny. I always laugh when I read a sign telling me that they will buy my home for cash, they are experts etc etc etc. I started thinking a long time ago, " They couldn't afford to even go to a print shop and have a d-- sign made, they had to go get poster board and a sharpie from Office Depot to inform me." So I'm looking at a wet poster board sign that's telling me how they have all of this cash to buy
  24. I'm glad this was posted. I was on the phone yesterday with a customer service representative and she asked me if I was excited about the holiday. She asked me if I was going to party on Memorial Day. I have nothing against anyone spending time with family on that day. I think it's good for us to at the very least stop for a moment of silence to remember the brave soldiers who died for our freedom. But her words made me stop and think hard for a moment. I imagined someone laughing and partying in a cemetery, or at a memorial service. I can't imagine how I would feel if a day was designated to
