On this day, it's not about the politics, the controversies and the people who seek attention for their causes. Our hearts should be with everyone that died that day and the families that lost them. We remember.

2 years in prison for shooting a dog?
HiPlainsDrifter replied to dumbestgirlintheworld's topic in RECENT TOPICS
I agree on the poor writing of the article. It sounds as if he had some serious anger issues and shot the dog with it being in very close proximity to the owner which clearly endangers a human. This is a guy who is not responsible enough to own a gun and will carelessly kill a human one day. if he doesn't lose his possessions after being locked up I'm sure the dog owner could take them in a personal lawsuit. -
I still wonder about the people who are ready to support the building of the mosque because of the qualifications of permits, rights as Americans or any other justifiable cause. I fully understand how meeting the permits and living by our constitution applies to this situation, although in my opinion freedom of religion has much less to do with this than simple permits and zoning. There comes a time though when you have to say ,does this even make sense, is it right, is the timing and location really bad given the tragedy? This is where the factor of common sense can be applied to all of the m

burning of Qurans on Sept. 11 by a Florida church
HiPlainsDrifter replied to Coppertop's Pop's topic in RECENT TOPICS
I didn't say there was a "church" of antis, I said if a "group" of anti's wanted to build a church, read what I wrote again. Besides I already suspect the answer. -
burning of Qurans on Sept. 11 by a Florida church
HiPlainsDrifter replied to Coppertop's Pop's topic in RECENT TOPICS
Through all of this for the sake of argument I have wondered something about the people who are carrying signs and protesting in favor of building the mosque near ground zero. Would they feel the same about "rights" if a group of anti-(big a word) decided to build a church next to a clinic that had been bombed at one time. Do you think they would support their rights and protest or would they say, no you're doing this not as a coincidence but as a slap in the face to make a statement. Trust me , I wouldn't support it either, but I have wondered how this would play out with the die hard support -
burning of Qurans on Sept. 11 by a Florida church
HiPlainsDrifter replied to Coppertop's Pop's topic in RECENT TOPICS
Back to our topic header. I do not think it's a wise idea to burn the koran for the simple reason that it endangers the lives of many American's serving in many capacities. Not to mention I think that the best way to lead the masses to your religion is by example. I do however support his right to burn the hell out of the book, as it is his right to free speech and we cannot let terrorist on foreign soil dictate our rights as Americans. I had to stop for a moment and think again about this whole situation though. Call them what you want, one rogue group of Muslims, a break off branch, a very s -
I haven't seen a snake yet in our yard this year, but I KNOW they are there. I am not afraid of them, but I do respect them greatly. I'm always on the look put for copper heads around the pine straw and water moccasins when I'm fishing. In the past I've picked up the king snakes, rat snakes etc and moved them to a safer place in the yard. They are always welcome as they keep the disease carrying rodents away and the venomous snakes as well. Snakes have their place in nature like all creatures but I'd rather the venomous ones not have their place in my yard. The nonvenomous ones are always welc

I love it when the temp dips down for the fist time like it has this morning. The walk outside and realize that fall is around the corner, goes well with Labor Day and the start of football. Mornings like today I take advantage of by sitting out on the deck, drinking coffee and reading a book. Always stopping for a second or two every now then to listen to the birds and feel the cool air. It only gets better.

An investigation has determined so far that the two men yanked from a plane in Amsterdam for suspicious items in their baggage were not plotting an act of terrorism. They were not apparently doing a dry run for a future act of violence just to test security according to investigators so far in this story. Apparently according to these people it is perfectly normal to tape pepto bismal bottles to cell phones and watches and add in some box cutters and knives in your bag. I do this when I fly, don't you guys? I mean geez why were these guys even questioned! Then I drain my bank account and carry

I'm with you. If he's paid all the fees and taxes it takes to drive the car out on the road and besides this is America, then by God he can pretty much say what he wants to on his car. To each his own. Looks like he did exactly what he wanted to do though, get his point across and get under someone's skin. I see cars wall papered in Obama stickers too with anti republican slogans but I've never felt the urge to say something. I don't think there should be a political correctness meter used for bumper stickers.

I only feel bad for the senior and the kids. I know everyone thinks I have a heart of stone when I say this, and I said it before in the last post, but some people are just plain lazy pieces of crap. Yes there are people that have mental issues that cause them to live in certain conditions, that is very true. But I refuse to hand out the mental card to every fat lazy disgusting parent who lives in filth and subjects their kids to those living conditions. I'm not going to just look at you and say, "Well you must be crazy because a normal person wouldn't want to live that way." Well I'm here to

The original question still has not been answered and someone has poured out the eggshells again to walk on. I ask it again. Go to Walmart today and for the sake of argument, count the scooters you see and judge whether or not the person is obese. That's whats being noticed along with the age. But with the comments I am left to believe that a good 75% of the people I see in scooters are riding around due to medication and other health problems. It's one hell of a big coincidence that the majority of people you see in these scooters are extremely obese. Trust me, I've seen someone in action whe

In the end they are who they are. People are judged on their actions. Interpret that however you want.

You have NO IDEA how I grew up , but one thing I will never do is make excuses for my parents or my own parenting. It's not my neighbor's, my community's or even America's responsibility to be parent's to my children. If a parent can't keep them in a safe and healthy environment then they don't deserve to have them. I don't give a d--- what their problem is. Ultimately the children are the most important. Sorry I crushed the little violins a long time ago and have no tears to shed for sob stories told by slobs like the mother in this story.

That's the problem with parents in America, always an D excuse either economy, disability or something, never themselves. Parents and their families need to stop making excuses for their poor A-- parenting of their children they brought into this world and take responsibility. Stop looking at some other factor and pick themselves up, stop being lazy and do what is good for our children. A nation of excuses as to why they can't take care of their kids. There are so so many great parents in this country, some from broken homes, victims of abuse, poor as hell, disabilities etc and they all prove

I was also sickened when I heard this story. I was insulted when I hear people compare the parents to animals. I've been around too many female animals that had young ones and I'm here to tell you, they don't treat their babies like that, animals are better. I also get sick of the neighbors and anyone else who lays blame on the economy and saying oh how nice they were and oh how they needed help, blah blah blah. No what they need is a good A-- whippin and to never to see those kids again.I've been to some very poor homes and you could eat off the floor and the kids were well loved and taken ca

I've never encountered tipping the curbside baggage personnel and didn't even know I was expected to, to be honest. But then again I always place my own bags on the belt and there usually is not a line. No sense in giving a guy a buck or two for me carrying the bags from the shuttle bus to the belt and placing them myself. I do give the shuttle bus driver from the park and ride a buck or two as a tip. When it comes to the airline, I figure by the time I've made it to the airport I have been fee'd to death and they can go dig it out of the "we need more money for our bad service" fee on my tick

Attended a court hearing for a family member today
HiPlainsDrifter replied to onekidmom's topic in RECENT TOPICS
I love the way when someone calls it like they see it everyone begins to walk on eggshells. People begin to backtrack in interviews etc. Hey stereotypes exist for a reason, it's an observation. Call it like you see it. The courtroom scene described made me sick and believe me I have seen it too. Yes it's a mixture of races, but the worst of each race is there sucking down our tax money. Due to the statistics of more black males being incarcerated I am sure there are more black people to be seen in the courtrooms across the country. Our politicians have created a system that has allowed this to -
The loyalty is quite annoying. I've always gotten the "well their performance for graphic art applications cannot be matched." To which I responded, "that's fine but I'm not a graphic artist so I'll keep the extra $1,000 and buy myself this HP laptop for less than half the price." To each his own, but the loyalty to that brand is comical.

I actually asked LE and they couldn't give me a straight answer. One officer actually said, "That's a good question." I mean there's my GPS unit lit up in plain sight on the dash. It'll be pretty obvious that I'm looking at the screen. Here I was thinking I was being much safer by using the GPS. I drive around alot during the day and visit new places. I could go back to reading the mapquest sheets , which take my eyes away from the windshield. With the GPS my eyes stay looking forward and I even have a voice reading instructions aloud to me. I would think that as long as I'm not touching it wh

I'm still trying to get a clarification on the GPS part from different sources and no one can sum it up. I always program my GPS when parked. But you mean to tell me that if my eyes glance to the screen of the unit that is sitting on my dash directly in front of me to see the instructions while the car is moving ,I'm in violation?

Sorry there are families losing their homes, people losing their jobs, our military men and women facing danger, so some Hollywood starlet going to prison is extremely low on the list of my concern. Who freakin cares. She made her cold hard bunk, now lay in it spoiled brat!

A little over an hour and it will be all over

From the time I left the car to the time I left the parking lot after voting = 15 mins. I mean really there's no reason not to vote. I was smiling one proud smile while casting my votes. It was judgment day as far as I was concerned and there are more to come. -
I've been looking over the candidates thoroughly this weekend to decide who to vote for on Tuesday. I know everyone is very interested in the A word and gay rights etc. I for one could care less about what one candidate thinks another candidate thought about gay rights or A. I want to tell them,"Shut up, and stop telling me what you think they did and tell me what YOU are going to do." I want to know what you are going to do about issues that actually affect me living in a state a love with all of my heart. Tell me how you will solve the water issue that will become a huge issue over the next
