  1. Just spoke with my wife who is driving that way to work. She usually takes Macland to E/W Connector too but opted for the 120 route today after hearing from a friend that Macland was bad today. She said 120 was drivable with ice but once she got to Lost Mountain it got worse. Like people have said, the Paulding side is better. She said once she got on E/W connector is was better, but a lot of ice spots. She is driving to Buckhead, so it will be a long drive. She's just moving along carefully, and slowly, but with momentum.
  2. Anyone know what condition the section between McLand and E Paulding is in right now?
  3. I agree, it seems hard for people to take a few to relax for awhile these days. Just stopping for awhile to sit and read a book for a few hours in a day on the weekend or just sit in a park and watch ducks swim is beyond so many folks today, it's go go go go go. I for one am fine with taking a day or two a month and relaxing, helps the mind and soul. If cabin fever has set in already with some people here, then make sure you never move to the states with high snowfall, because this is nothing.
  4. My wife and I chose to get out of the house and walk around the subdivision, driving down the hills is impossible, and then head up to the convenient store. We really never "stocked up" because we buy our groceries for the week and that's pretty much beyond the life of most ice around here. Besides we always have extra in the pantry and freezer anyway. We just simply enjoyed watching the kids play and bought a hot chocolate and shared conversation with the employees at the store when we arrived. We'll probably get out and walk today as well.
  5. I have a few friends and acquaintances that are transplants from snowy areas of the country who have all said that they have seen a few snow falls a year since they moved here. This is an outsider noticing something that I hear life time residents saying the opposite of when they mention this type of thing only happens every 10 years or so. You have to remember it only takes 1/4 inch of snow, just a dusting, to shut the city down. This is not something that happens every 10 or 20 years, more like about once or twice a year for the past few years. It doesn't even take ice as some say, just some
  6. Our dog is a German Rottweiler so you would think that by bloodline he would love the snow, but he could care less. Could be because we picked him up as a shelter puppy in Vegas after they found him wandering in the desert, he's never been fond of cold weather. He stays outside for a couple of minutes in the snow and then has that look on his face like, Ok enough of this.
  7. I made a big pot of chili today also in the crockpot. Cooked it on low all day to the point that the entire house held the aroma of spices. Something about having chili on a cold day, especially tonight when it started to snow as we were having a bowl.
  8. Have a pot of chili I started earlier today in the crock pot. Going to go great with the weather and a few Eastwood westerns tonight.
  9. I've got a biiig pot of chili that's been cooking all day long in the crock pot. Fire is going in the fire place and I'm ready to sit down with the family and watch a few Clint Eastwood westerns and wait on the storm.
  10. The lady in the Kroger that had 10, and yes we did count them, loaves of bread and 5 gallons of milk, that was crazy!
  11. My wife made her family fav Chicken Marsala. Man was it good!
  12. This is why I love the NFL!!!! ANY team has a chance and it's not up to a sports writer, coach or a computer to decide who makes their way to the top via voting. No one gave the Seahawks a chance and bowed down to the all mighty Saints. I sincerely had a feeling that there could be some upsets in the playoffs. The playoffs bring on a different mindset than the regular season and therefore you're playing a team that is charged up a little more than usual. I got so tired this year of hearing about last year's super bowl. Well this year is this year and Drew Brees will watch the remainder of the
  13. Listen to a lot of weather reports but I have to say Kirk Mellish is usually pretty close. He's predicted some big weather events here in Atlanta when other meteorologist didn't. Here's his forecastWSB Radio Kirk Mellish Weather Forecast
  14. Mr. Daniels is a good companion to have if one is to be confined during a storm, I totally agree.
  15. I've said it here many times. I'll never understand why people here prepare for a winter storm as if a foreign force was landing on our shores or the four horsemen were upon us. Yet watch them during the spring and summer when there's a tornado watch, or better yet a warning, and they will sit outside by the pool,go shopping etc until they see an F150 flying through the air or lightning strikes next to them with enough power to heat up GA for 10 years. Then by God they'll run for some cover and start watching the weather report. I've seen it here all my life, people playing sports when there's
  16. That's pretty much the mental picture I get when I hear that everyone is clearing the shelves of milk and bread due to an impending winter storm. Great video!
  17. Time to get a fresh loaf of bread and a gallon of milk. Nothing like sitting around in an ice storm drinking glasses of milk and eating slices of bread.
  18. I think a lot of the characteristics you're noticing are common due to the geographical area. Not to say that people are not crazy about college football in the other areas of the country, it's just here in the south, it's huge. You mentioned the issue with people not attending the particular school that they are a fan of, how about, and this is not a slam, those that didn't attend a college at all. I have met fans that you would swear would have graduated from the school they are praising, from the way they throw around the "we" played this way and "we" won or " we whipped them." To each his
  19. I couldn't agree more. As a cancer survivor I have sat in an office and spoken with patients dealing with different types of cancer and I challenge anyone to choose which one of those patients that was in more need of an awareness (marketing) campaign. I'm sorry but when a charity grows to a certain level I am one that believes that money becomes it's CEO. You can push your cause, no matter what it may be, out there in the public's face, this case being a certain cancer, so far that after awhile awareness will turn to numbness and normalcy. Let's face it, there is no "in" cancer, and the publi
  20. I have always taken a lot of pics and used to be enjoy photography as a hobby to it's fullest. Through a turn of events decades ago I lost my equipment and have used simpler cameras for quite some time, still being the one always snapping family photos, vacation pics and just scenes that catch my eye. So my son gave me a new DSLR for Christmas that is allowing me to really get back into my hobby on a different level and I want to share my photos. I'm an amateur by all means, but really enjoy using the camera. For example on a recent day trip to the mountains with my kids two days after Christ
  21. Medium rare here. I like it seared a bit and then grilled for just a few if I'm making it myself. Something interesting is that I love the steak that my wife makes more than any steak I've every tasted. What's so ironic about it is that she doesn't eat red meat. I love it red in the middle dripping with flavorful juices and a hint of blood. No sauce for me, I want to taste the steak itself.
  22. I took my youngest son in 2007 and 2008. I really didn't see any danger as far as the crowds to be honest, alot of families really. Everyone is right about the fumes I suppose if that bothers you, and sitting in the upper levels you will smell it more as well as the dust from the dirt that's kicked up. The noise level is a little much for some folks, so I made my son wear ear plugs. I guess after all the years of NASCAR and NHRA races, I've just become used to that level of noise. We got there early and were allowed to go down to the track to look at the trucks close up, take pictures and meet
  23. I'm sorry but I see the constant posting of these topics, that are obviously inflammatory, to be baiting. There is a political forum.
  24. When it comes to the disabled I have taught my kids to defend them and to never use words that I hear kids say today like, retard etc. I would spend summers with my grandparents where I met a boy who had a mental disability. It was never fully explained to me, back then the older folk just said that he was "slow." Although the other kids never wanted to play with him, I shared toys, threw the base ball with him and made a pretty good friend. I guess my foundation at that point had been set along with what my parents taught me. I can say that if I were in that father's shoes I would have probab
  25. Notice there's always a hot topic laid down and then sit back for a response? Here's the reason.
