  1. About. Yeah, so did the areas of the county STILL without fire protection (as far as insurance is concerned anyway)
  2. I don't know, but the logical assumption would be that preteens probably used guns belonging to their parents, many of them purchased legally and not secured because they 'taught their kids about guns from a young age'
  3. I just don't like buying online, period. I have had some less than stellar experiences (poor quality, broken in transit, not as expected, etc) and rather see what I am buying before I pay for it. If it is something I just can't find around here and really need, I might order online but that's about it. I did not step foot inside a Walmart store for more than a year, and never did I pay 3x what they charged for anything. Sure, some things are a little more elsewhere, but I don't buy produce or meat at Walmart anyway, and those are the more pricey items when you shop at a regular grocer.
  4. I'm always suspicious. Of pretty much everything. And everybody.
  5. The governor and legislature are well aware of the potential for this to adversely affect GA taxpayers. The governor is more concerned right now with getting Delta's jet fuel tax exemption back on the books... This is expected to ultimately result in a 'windfall' for the state of around 3 billion dollars (if memory serves) if nothing is done to rectify the situation. Of course, lawmakers who have mentioned fixing it have stated they want to return the money to 'families with children' as if the rest of us don't pay our fair share (or more) of that 'windfall'...
  6. That was my first thought, too. Had that bug last year. Nothing to play around with.
  7. My mother and step-dad were always pleased with Clayton's service
  8. Well I don't live in Hiram but I do live in the county and whatever is going on should not be shrouded in secrecy. I am pretty surprised by the lack of concern from at least people who do live in Hiram, and the response to someone who is only sharing information. Pretty sure ApolloBeachRetiree doesn't even live in Georgia anymore...
  9. Yes I had the flu last year. It was HORRIBLE and you are correct, even getting out of bed is too much to even think about, much less actually try to do. Same with a true stomach virus, which I also had shortly after I had the flu. Sick as a dog and only got out of bed when circumstances required it.
  10. Yeah I had a feeling it would turn out to be a &*^% situation like that when I made that post but of course I did it anyway. Hopefully it will be resolved in the near future. It is a shame the county has let it go this long, considering the volume of straight-up garbage dumped on the property. **Knowing a little about people who live/behave as you describe, I would say it was more of a lifestyle choice than 'downtrodden'-ness, but I imagine they told the old man a different story...
  11. While I understand the wood was not theirs to sell and am in no way defending their actions or the theft of the trees, this is apparently a case of someone not properly managing a rental property and it seems to me they bear as much of the blame as the tenants and the 'guests' of those tenants. Hopefully they will either learn from this ordeal to be better landlords or maybe just get out of the rental business altogether if they don't have any more respect than that for the neighbors/neighborhood. There is more to it than collecting the rent every month... And yes I know eviction is
  12. I honestly don't know what compels a person to text or use the internet while they are driving. I do know that we are quickly approaching a point where auto insurance won't just be expensive, it will be unaffordable if something doesn't give with the distracted/impaired driving & everyone in such a hurry all the time. In the 30 years I have worked in insurance, I have never seen anywhere near the number of auto accidents reported as I did from August to December of last year.
  13. Yeah I thought about this when it first passed, but it's a little too late to worry about it now. Another example of skewed priorities getting in the way of the bigger picture, or at the very least not thinking things through completely. But I am sure it's the former, get tax reform done and make sure it does what certain people want it to do. Damn the rest or the consequences. Using one of the calculators I saw posted, maybe on this site, I will (possibly) save about $900/year...roughly 18.75 per week. Woohoo.
  14. What Stonewall said. ^^ Except the part about voting. I didn't. And it's not just Trump. I wish they would all stop using such an informal means of communication, stop the childish back and forth, and stop posting crap they should not say but can't take back. I miss the days of prepared statements, remarks and speeches. I miss having an actual government rather than living in a country ruled by politics. There is much to be said for literate, competent, mature adults with self-restraint and the ability to take an interest in more than the reflection in the mirror. Trump
  15. Well, at this point the most harmful thing she seems to be doing is living. Why not a lengthy diatribe against, say, Newt Gingrich? He hasn't faded into the sunset either and is certainly of no better character, morals or ethics than Hillary...
  16. Jonelle was a good Christian woman who was well-loved and respected by all who knew her. She will be missed.
  17. Yes, never mind that these are things he should already know.
  18. Since Ga Power started adding all those fees to the bill (and they are based on the electricity you use) I am happy for anything that reduces my power bill-during the dead of winter and mid-summer, I pay $40-50 above my actual electricity cost in fees and the tax on those fees. In my opinion, an electric heat pump is good for using electricity and not much else....I will take a good old gas furnace any day.
  19. Polk Water System had a pumping station go out one year when it was freezing/snow and my water was out for a week. Didn't help that I was at the very end of the water line on my road, either.
  20. I sent her a FB message, hopefully she will give them a call. If they need me to do so, I will help them get to wherever the dog is to see if it will be a good fit...they are in the Conyers area.
  21. Does anyone know if the dog is still available? I have had an inquiry from a friend for her son who is dealing with PTSD...
  22. Actually that is true for a number of people here.
  23. Whatever works for any particular item. I used to do the wrapping with ribbon and made my own pretty bows, but after a point decided it wasn't worth the time, effort and money for something that would go straight into the trash largely unnoticed...
