  1. There are a number of rescues who have taken animals in from flooded shelters across N Carolina in desperate need of funds. One of my friends is heavily involved in rescue there and has shared numerous posts.
  2. I don't understand why you would suggest that only Democrats should be against the offshoring of millions of American jobs. Are you saying everyone else thinks it was somehow beneficial to this country? Or is it exactly what it appears to be - a lame attempt to make it a partisan issue? So much for your claim that you are above all that - not that some of us didn't already know better, but still maybe best to check yourself before you start pointing out the faults of others.
  3. I figure I have done well to live as long as I have, all things considered...but I would like to say that OSU's answer was a pretty darn good one.
  4. Not sure if you meant posts or comments, but the comments are just plain cringe-worthy most of the time. Some are just gibberish. The upside to that is it appears many people just post and move along without bothering to read anyone else's comments or even the entire post to which they are replying.
  5. If you think that the thing to do, why not do it yourself?
  6. The Osmonds when I was 6 or 7. At the Omni. What can I say? I was a rebel. **Bless my poor uncle, rest his soul, who spent several hours in a venue FULL of screaming girls so that two little girls could (barely) see their teen idol and his brothers perform live.
  7. Well aren't you clever? No, wait. Will Rogers was clever. My bad. I think this is a circumstance for which atonement cannot be made by punishing the son for the sins of the father. People should be held responsible for their own actions (i.e. Roseanne Barr). If the son had publically or verbally echoed the father's sentiment, well that would be another thing. I am absolutely against discrimination and bigotry and I do understand the instinct to protect the brand, but this is truly an example of political correctness run amok. Much has changed in the past 40-50 years
  8. 5 years old in '69. Nice to know there are older ones here than me.
  9. Wow, I don't think the snobbishness of that term could be conveyed any more effectively than you have done here. So who do you expect is more likely to invite you to have a Spam sandwich - the unworthy plebeians in your 'hood or the refined gentlemen over at the country club?
  10. LOL My whole life has been a series of weird, it seems like. Not the weirdest, but the first thing to come to mind would be the house built behind my previous home that kind of is and kind of isn't part of a subdivision but was practically in my backyard. It sat unsold for a year or so when it was finished, then I discover the name of the man who eventually bought it was exactly the same as my ex's. Exactly. Shortly after they moved in, they stopped at my driveway one day to introduce themselves, and after we chit-chatted some about the name coincidence, the wife pointed at my beagle
  11. Yeah, they don't seem to do very much planning. Or even thinking ahead. Seems pretty stupid to move the county complex to such an out of the way place and still have it in the city limits where the county doesn't have all the say in what they can and can't do over there, if that's the situation.
  12. Yeah, I think that would be akin to asking motorists not to use a highway after it's open to traffic - not a viable option.
  13. Well, not to be quarrelsome but for about 10 years after my divorce I didn't have a credit card of any kind, and so when paying cash and asked for my zip code, well, I guess maybe I am quarrelsome because I always questioned why they asked for something that really was not relevant and was told that was the reason. Nobody ever refused to sell me something because I declined to answer the question, of course. This was back in the day before we thought it was a good idea to invite thieves into our bank account to take whatever they want.
  14. I believe that's why you are often asked for your zip code at checkout in various stores; they generally use that data to determine where to open a new location. Or so I have been told, anyway.
  15. To suggest that he might pardon the guy is neither "nasty" nor overreaching, based on his erratic behavior and mercurial temperament up to this point.
  16. My two little grand nieces, they are the Fresh vegetables from the garden - preferably my own but I never turn down an offer from somebody else's, either. Dogs. Well, most animals but dogs are the best. A shady creek in the woods far away from everything and everybody Being outdoors generally Bright, sunny, late spring/early summer days with no humidity A good book. Old things & places...houses, barns, tools, furniture, etc.
  17. Not a bad price for a 1,000 watt microwave. Wish this had been available before I bought mine last spring...
  18. If you say so... But really, based on your extremely broad and somewhat inaccurate interpretation of what constitutes hate, happy could mean just about anything.
  19. I imagine those lists are for elementary school students based on the items they contain (scissors, glue, colored pencils, crayons, etc.) I would make sure my kid showed up with pen/pencil, individual notebooks (either spiral or other binder type with paper) and maybe a calculator until I heard otherwise. No doubt you will be notified shortly if you are to provide other specific items. Or if you know any 7th or 8th graders, you could always ask what they were expected to bring or discovered they would need upon entering the 6th grade.
  20. It is no secret that he is a Republican. Practically every media outlet for as long as I can recall has included party affiliation in articles about politicians. You are pretty consistent in pointing out who the Democrats are whenever their stupidity makes the headlines. That's a pretty trivial thing to whine about in the grand scheme of things. And the dramatic wording....really? "Careful"?
  21. I was going to post this in response to another thread in which a question was asked about what Republicans really believe, but this is just as good a place as that. A few years ago I was reading a long AJC article in which several legislators were interviewed and one, I don't recall exactly who (possibly Paul Broun, Don Balfour or maybe even Saxby Chambliss) said that regularly they (legislators) will publicly state a position that plays well with their constituents back home and then when it came time to vote, they would vote their conscience, which often was the opposite of what they st
  22. I am of the opinion that serious reform and oversight is needed, and the practice of 'take now, convict (or don't) later' needs to end. Doubt it would be sufficient to prompt me to vote for her, but I am really not motivated to vote for anybody this election cycle. Much as I hate to say it, I am not going to vote in the governor's race this time. When the candidates prove themselves incompetent in their previous position (Kemp), unethical and/or corrupt (Cagle) or incapable of managing their own finances (Abrams), it really doesn't much matter who wins because ultimately, we lose.
