  1. I don't care for insurance commercials as a general rule but I gotta admit I love that dog...
  2. This is what's wrong with politics today. Please don't perpetuate it.
  3. Not arguing that the place could use some work, but I've worked in Dallas for 25 years and not once have I ever had any problem with the 'scary looking' people who live there. In fact, I've known one of the men who lives there for many years. He's one of the more intelligent and well-mannered people I know but for whatever reason calls this place home. The only time I ever see anyone who lives there is if they walk over to the convenience store or I drive down the street between the package store & the thrift store. The guy hitting up customers for money at convenience stores
  4. Coincidentally, five years ago yesterday: ATLANTA (AP) -- Metro Atlanta got a rare visitor Tuesday, at least one alligator hanging out in the Chattahoochee River. Wildlife officials say the gator was spotted near an overpass of I-285, the interstate that circles Atlanta. Steve Reynolds of the National Park Service said it's unusual for an alligator to show up because Atlanta is too cold for them to survive year-round. The state Department of Natural Resources is helping capture the gator, which was estimated at six to eight feet, and a smaller one whose sighting hadn't been c
  5. Right, because that would leave it for '(y)our kids and grandkids' to pay for as part of the enormous debt incurred by the Obama administration as opposed to paying for it now. (Reminder: federal money is not free; it all comes from the taxpayers)
  6. And when some details of such a plan are forthcoming, I might be inclined to agree. Short of that, I'd rather not get stuck with the bill if that proves not to be the case.
  7. So the flip side to not voting for Sam 'just because one likes him' is to vote for Jeff just because one feels Sam has been coroner for too long? I work in downtown Dallas and have for years, and as much as possible I keep up with what's going on in the city as well as the county, and have yet to hear a complaint about the job Sam has done as coroner. As best as I've been able to ascertain from posts in another thread by someone who supports Jeff in this election as well as those who have stated they won't vote for Sam, the reasons are that 'Sam has held this position for too long', 'it
  8. This^^ was another aspect of the matter that I had wondered about myself, and exactly what I meant in my post about politicians not offering details of their plans if elected to the office they seek.
  9. Considering the number of times in this thread that it has been stated what a good job he has done, I think the answer would have to be no. The one thing that's lacking in every political race these days is for a challenger to tell the voters what he/she will do differently or better than the incumbent if elected. And I am not talking about a list of talking points, I'm talking about a plan of action to fulfill at least some of their campaign promises...
  10. Still trying to figure out how providing emergency medical services for the county and holding the office of coroner is a conflict of interest...since both candidates operate a funeral home that shouldn't even be a consideration here.
  11. Wow wish you'd done this last year, I sold about $225 worth of old silver coins to a dealer & would have much preferred someone have had them who was also interested in the coins themselves rather than just the silver content...don't think I had any that were overly valuable to collectors but they weren't all junk, either.
  12. It's just a little over 2 miles to take 92 from Main Street in Hiram down to Hiram-Sudie Rd then to Bill Carruth Pkwy to Virgie Ballentine Dr. I doubt the cost involved to shorten the distance by just over a mile would have been justified. Any route directly from HHS to the city of Hiram would have to cross the Norfolk Southern track; I don't know much about road construction but I imagine that would add significantly to the cost and headache involved.
  13. Ticks can be picked up just about anywhere outdoors, but wooded areas & high grass/weeds are the most likely places. Often they are brought indoors by pets unattached & then crawl onto whatever warm-blooded creature happens to be in the vicinity first chance they get.
  14. So which is it? One offense clearly cancels out the nature of intent of the other, doesn't it?
  15. If it makes anyone feel better, the linked 'page cannot be found'.
  16. Nearly every article I've read about the JP Morgan fiasco has said that the rules are still being written for bank regulation...as I understood it was big banks swallowing up smaller institutions that have failed or were on the brink of failing the past few years - along with government bailouts - that allowed them to morph into the monsters they've become.
  17. Yes for years I visited their station every week to fill up my car, etc. Ray and Faron were always as nice and helpful as could be. I sure hated to see them go. Condolences to the family.
  18. Probably the same reason Salma Hayek did? and David Beck, too for that matter... (Although I have to admit I don't understand why the question was asked at all)
  19. It comes down to that right there ^^^ for me. If he had gone on his way as he was advised to do, there wouldn't have been a fight at all. If people don't want others to see into their homes at night, they should cover their windows. Humans are nosy and curious creatures, and some walk faster than others. It's called Neighborhood WATCH for a reason.
  20. Coots Lake? Don't know if they let ya fish there these days. Definitely don't try to do it from the side where the trailhead is, they don't go for that at all.
  21. Have known this family my entire life - Marvine, Trina, Dana, Lisa & Kristy & families - so sorry for your loss. Love to you all.
  22. A furnished apartment/basement/room for a reasonable price in the Dallas/Hiram/Powder Springs area to rent for the summer. Plays college ball & will be attending a baseball camp at HHS over the summer. His grandfather is not comfortable with the recommendation that he stay in a hotel in Atlanta with a couple of young men he doesn't know and drive to Hiram every day. The grandfather, who is an insurance agent in Waycross, Georgia mentioned the situation to a mutual business associate, who in turn asked if we might know of something suitable in the area or if we can refer him to someo
  23. Silver Comet Trail would be my suggestion, too.
