  1. This is why we have so much crime. The criminals get away with so much before they actually get punished. Between dismissed charges, pretrial diversions (which really is just a get out of jail free card), probation, suspended sentences, and parole, I'm surprised anyone actually goes to jail anymore.
  2. I don't know, but I do know that the only two I've ever had have been in the past two years, and they have both been WAY more than I thought they would be, and much more even than my relatives who are in law enforcement outside the state thought.
  3. That's what it sounds like to me too.
  4. Yeah, it is crazy. They dont' try to retain people though, the pay is bad, the conditions are horrible, and they don't give their employees the resources to do their jobs properly. I couldn't wait to bolt from there, even though I took a pay cut and went to doing a type of work I totally abhored. After all, why work for 9.61/h with no benefits in a place where you have no backup and poor resources, and where the kids pretty much run the place, when you can work for 24 grand, work 4 days on 2 days off, get off on time, get back, and have state benefits? If I lived closer to Rome I would hav
  5. When I left people were being moved everywhere. The shift system was dumb anyhow, I never left without working at least 11 hours, and usually worked at least 12-14.
  6. I throw people who smoke around my kids dirty looks all the time. Both my kids have bad breathing problems, and a whiff of smoke is enough to give them an asthma attack, especially my oldest. I purposely avoid smoking areas though, and don't go into houses that people smoke in.
  7. You turn the wrong cheek because prisoners have at least 15x more rights than you do, and you really have no recourse. You can file charges on them, if you have proof, and if the people in the control center haven't lost or recorded over the video yet. But even if you do file the charges, nothing will really happen, especially to juveniles. Daniels was the lady in her 50's on first shift, right?
  8. I actually had a teacher make kids who smelled like smoke sit outside her room one day, until the assistant principal found out, and blasted her. I felt so bad for the kids, the last thing they needed was a teacher ostracizing them for their parents choices. I hate parents that smoke in the car pool line. I'd love it if the school resource officers would start writing tickets to all the parents that do it, since it is illegal.
  9. Because we need more taxes. Also, think about it, food that is less nutritious and generally crappier is usually cheaper. Make manufacturers lower the prices on organic and low fat foods, and I'll gladly buy those instead, but until then, I'm stuck buying whatever I can afford, which usually is stuff that doesn't mean healthy.
  10. I was a JCO at Paulding RYDC, as well as working on the forensic unit at NWGRH, so I've had almost all of those things done to me before, but I do pity this guy. He didn't sign up for being hit in the head with luggage, and he's obviously having a hard time personally at the moment. As a PO, you know what you signed up for. I'm surprised that nothing happened to the passenger for disobeying the crews orders and hitting someone with luggage.
  11. I tend to disagree with that. There are at least two nutjobs from the left that post there, and while the majority are right wingers, most of them have given up on posting. I don't bother going in most of the time anymore, the conversation is rarely enlightening, and tends to remind me of middle school name calling more than political debate.
  12. If it's truly bad, and they are truly desperate, they can try to check themselves into a state mental hospital citing their addiction, and they will try to help get them placed in a rehab facility. If I'm not mistaken there is one in Polk county that Northwest GA Regional sent some people to when I worked there.
  13. That brings up a point. Every bug bomb I've ever bought says on there do not leave pets or people in the building. You are supposed to leave with all animals indoors that you don't want to kill, then come back like 8 hours later, open the windows and doors, turn on the fans, and air the place out. I've never had them not work, and trust me, when I was growing up we had the world's worst flea infestation.
  14. Bug bombs are your friends. Applied correctly, they can kill anything. Anybody have any ideas on how to take out fruit and drain flies? I've tried all the home remedies I've used before, but none of them are killing them off this time. I've got the bowl out which is killing plenty, and I'm continually bleaching the drains, and keeping the trash covered, and taking it out every day, but even though I'm killing at least 20 a day, their numbers seem to be going up.
  15. Trust me, it's not a waste of money. When I rode the bus in bartow for a few weeks, I saw girls giving guys handjobs, drug use, and everything else you can imagine. I started just waiting for my parents to get off work, since the bus didn't get me home til like 530 anyhow. You aren't kidding. Just last night I walked my trash down to the dumpster, and saw two drug deals, and 4 people lighting up marijuana in the middle of the street. And we had a guy pull a gun in front of our appt about two weeks ago, and put it to another guys head, before the cops showed up and then all bolted. It'
  16. My divorce just went final like a year ago, and I've already forgotten her attorney's name, and mine quit on me, so he doesn't know crap.
  17. The lack of hangers can be easily explained by saying they haven't been built yet, but will be soon, blah, blah, but the lack of upkeep makes it look abandoned. Cartersville Airport had very few hangers until like 3 or 4 years ago, and they still managed to get businesses to operate from there.
  18. I usually pay less than half of that.
  19. Yeah, if I would have known it was gonna stop my UE, I would never have worked the job in the first place, it was only 7 days over 3 weeks, barely what I made on UE to start with.
  20. They do work that way, what made me mad is that the woman who took me back took other people back first who'd gotten there well after me. And if my case was really that simple, they could have had the receptionist tell me I had to refile.
  21. My ex refused to see a counselor too. But she was right, the judge did see everything her way... Of course, the judge was a divorced woman with children who also happens to be active in the ACLU and woman's rights groups, so that didn't really surprise me.
  22. I filed back in late april, early may, but I worked a two week temporary assignment in July, so I received a letter in the mail saying I needed to talk to some specific person at DOL in Cartersville. I show up, and gave them my social, and told them I thought I might need to refile, and the lady at the desk said no, just wait, this lady will come out and get you. Well, every single person in there was in and out of their meeting before me, and so were almost all the people who got there within the 35 minutes after me. Finally I went up there to complain, and she said that there were only two m
  23. When I worked for the Publix in Cartersville, the "recycling" bin was thrown in the trash compactor at the end of every night, because we didn't have any actual capacity for recycling.
  24. I was at the Cartersville one for 4 hours the other day, just for a two minute meeting. It's ridiculous, If I didn't absolutely need the money, I'd have walked out. You can go to any DOL. Douglasville may be closer to you.
