No, because it's on TOP of the income tax, not replacing it. So you will pay 7% on the service, then the service provider will pay 6% of his salary to the state. Oh yea, if there is any profit, then the business owner will pay 6% of HIS income to the state. Gotta love it. Not "We need to cut" but "We need to raise more money!!' Dang. We are about to need a revolution here.

Well Pubby, the reason for the trains using diesel/electric is more for the motor's ability to have maximum torque at zero RPM, where the diesel needs to be running at close to maximum RPM for maximum torque. This way, the engine is running at maximum power, which is needed to get the 100 ton train moving. A direct drive would be more efficient once they got moving, but you'd never get the train moving with without a massive 12-15 gear transmission. (And even then it wouldn't work as well)
-
It might not damage the engine, but as soon as it hits the filter/injectors, he wouldn't be going much further without cleaning out the tank.

Sounds like time to put out a gas can with 2 gallons of sugar water with about an inch of gasoline on top. See how far they get after *that*.

I suspect that it will nosedive soon as gas hits $5 a gallon from all the problems in the middle east.

OBAMA PHONE- PRESIDENT PROVIDES FREE PHONE + MINUTES
The Sound Guy replied to ITMFA's topic in RECENT TOPICS
Let's quote some more: Sounds to me like the Democrats recently pushed it so that our government mandated lifeline payments, instead of paying for landline service for those in need, is now paying for cell phone service for those on food stamps. Rather than having a full month of lifeline support, they now get only a few minutes a month. Oh yea, great plan. -
Lasagna Time! Had to clean out the freezers....

Ah, but you forget, we know where you live!! Seriously, sounds good Surepip. HB to your son. Cheers! -
Interesting. I went to a Borders in Austin, Tx last week looking for a hardback of a new book I wanted, but they didn't have it. Didn't understand it until I saw this. I guess they are not getting any new merch shipped until this is figured out. Ouch. Bought it at B&N this week. They got the $24, instead. Oh well... SG

Companies switching to high-deductible health plans
The Sound Guy replied to onekidmom's topic in RECENT TOPICS
A valid question, the coverage has a maximum out of pocket of about $6000. I'll have that covered in a year or so. -
Companies switching to high-deductible health plans
The Sound Guy replied to onekidmom's topic in RECENT TOPICS
Yea, it will never do to let people make decisions on their own about their coverage. Gotta love the democrats. There are situations where it may not make sense for someone to have a high deductible plan, but for many it's great. It's INSURANCE against major sickness. Most of today's plans are like if you bought a car and were only offered a $250 a month plan that pays for oil changes and 50,000 mile checkups after a $10 co-pay and 80% of all repairs. You have to pay as long as you own the car. If you sell the car, you get no credit for anything you've paid for the policy. D -
How Much Of Our Everyday Lives Consist Of Intimidation?
The Sound Guy replied to Eddie Bennett's topic in RECENT TOPICS
Winning through Intimidation... It is an interesting book... -
Checked with my friendly on line check printer and they wanted over $60 to print 4 boxes of duplicate checks. Seems rather high to me, esp when they offered such a great deal to get me on board to begin with. So... who do you use and roughly what do you pay? I noticed Wally world is now in the check printing business, anybody used them? Smaller selection but only $35 or so for 4 boxes...

Got a sharp 46" LED/LCD and like it a lot. Highly recommend the LED, the lower power is a winner.

Very interesting article Mark - Another thing I have to wonder about is 100 years ago, how much did they *care* how accurate their readings were? Even 40 years ago, when you are using a slide rule for the calculations, anything to the right of the decimal point is pretty useless. Only in the age of computers/calculators does anybody calculate to the 5th decimal point and I saw my first calculator/computer in the early 70's.

Not a super expert, but I usually keep the latest version of Java, and delete the rest. The older versions can have bugs in them and all versions are available if loaded.

Hey, at least my going out and getting gas for the generator and mixing up the gas for the chain saws and charging up all my batteries made the ice storm go away!! Do we get half credit? I'm gonna buy a snow blower next, that will really make it go away. Wish they made a combination tiller/snowblower, now that would be worth buying.

We had 2 or 3 flashes at the house in North Paulding. Only the second time I've heard it, first was the blizzard in 93.

With the temp change tonight, I'd bet that if you don't get that slush shoveled today, you will have a solid block of ice that you'll need a jackhammer or flamethrower to remove by tomorrow morning. I can work from home, so the company is expecting me in the office so I haven't been able to clear much, but I'm clearing all I can today.

Wow, many "snow lovers" are turning into snow haters
The Sound Guy replied to Itsforkids's topic in RECENT TOPICS
My idea of a perfect snow is one that comes in Friday night, we play in it Saturday morning, begins to melt Saturday afternoon and is gone by Monday morning. Both snows this season have overstayed their welcome!! -
Our subdivision road looks good, at least for one lane that the neighbor plowed yesterday. My driveway on the other hand..... Will walk out to look at DBR later today.

Looks like it will be Auburn vs Oregon for the BCS
The Sound Guy replied to The Sound Guy's topic in RECENT TOPICS
Woot! It was closer than I thought, but Auburn pulls it out!!! Go SEC!! I do have to admit that the Ducks are a great team and deserved to be there. -
Don't know for sure, that was just what my son told me who talked with him. We are at Windrift, so I'm sure Windrift to Capital should be done.
