  1. Red Neckerson had routine about kids' names years ago. He thought it was due to people giving those "silly kid's naming books instead of a *good* present" More Red: "I asked one of my neighbors that named one of his little darlin's "Amber" what color he was gonna name the next one and he got all *mad* at me!" I loved Red.
  2. The radar is showing all kinds of red blocks of watches to the west. I figure our radio should be going off soon. Could be an interesting night.
  3. Interesting they would pick on the mortgage deduction. As I recall, the idea was to make the American Dream of home ownership, to own a piece of America, easier. When you buy your first house with little down, most of your payment is deductible. As you pay off the loan, more and more of the payment is not deductible, but you've hopefully increased income over time. It's worked for many years in making the dream of home ownership available for the middle class. Compare this to the later idea that "easy credit" was the way to more home ownership and that was pushed on the b
  4. I feel that way too. Ace is 8 minutes from the house, HD is 30 min away. Almost an extra hour to get there and back for that one item I need to save a buck or two ain't worth it. I also seemed to find more "Made in the USA" items at ACE than at HD. Saving an American job in manufacturing is worth a little more to me also. Anybody else remember when Coyboys was a Winn Dixie? I worked there PT from 1980 to 1984.
  5. Yea, you can't change it for 2010 now. Values for 2011 will come out in June 2011. I would go ahead and see if they will change the value now, that will give them a lower starting point when they start the revaluations next Spring. JMO.
  6. Sigh I wonder what part of "SPEND LESS YOU IDIOTS" they don't understand?
  7. Dang I hope the one in Seven hills stays open. I used that one as much as I can, I HATE driving all the way to HD in Acworth.
  8. Yea, I usually vote Republican, but I think I'm going to vote for Monds in protest. Then no matter if Deal or Roy wins, I can complain saying *I* didn't vote for him!! Yes to SPLOST at this time, for me at least, the property tax cut is worth it. I'm pretty much voting "NO" to all the amendments. Until they are up front and write the blasted things in English, I don't trust them.
  9. Many years ago, my mother in law had left some biscuit cans on the table, stood on end, while she brought in the rest of the groceries. She heard a "pop" inside and upon reentering found one can blown open with biscuits all over. She cleaned up the mess and made dinner. While everyone was seated, the unnoticed biscuit that had stuck to the ceiling finally came loose and hit the table with a PLOP in the gravy, scaring the crap out of the whole family and making *another* mess. At least that's what they claimed happened.
  10. I rubbed down some ribs last night and put them in the smoker this morning. Gonna be some Gooooood eatin' here tonight.
  11. Yep. However, I'm sure they will have some backdoor where the government won't call it "inflation", so there will be no cost of living increases. Just costs us a bunch more. I'm convinced that the high cost of oil was the main trigger for the housing mess. When people are spending all their money trying to feed themselves and get back and forth to work, the economy is gonna crash. Looks like we're headed that way again.
  12. The water savings with a front loader can be considerable. We got our Maytag Neptune Washer/Dryer set in Jan of 2004, in Feb onward, our water bill was down 40%. Now, my wife does a lot of laundry with 3 kids, but it DOES use less water. We've had no problems with it not cleaning clothes, even with the drum packed full. No mechanical issues either. We have had problems with the screws that hold the dispenser rusting and making a mess, also some mildew on the main door gasket in the last year or two. If we leave it closed for several days without airing it out, we get a smell, b
  13. I will do the same, my bill has tripled in the last 10 years anyway, there is something strange going on...
  14. I hadn't really thought about still cameras. I'll have to look into it. I'd like to get to at least 720p. Thanks,
  15. Ok, obviously there is something that you are misunderstanding: The School Bond payments are NOW (in 2010) 2.963 mils. This is on your tax bill this year. Have a look. That part of my tax bill is over $200. This is calculated by taking all the bond payments that school board has to make and dividing by the tax base to get a millage rate that is used to charge everyone in the county their part of the payments. Now, IF the SPLOST is passed, those bond payments will be made using the SPLOST *instead* of property taxes. Therefore, since the funds are raised by SPLOST, the funds nee
  16. My wife/daughter want me to get some better video of her playing soccer than I've been getting with the SD camcorder that I borrowed from my son, so I'm looking at HD Camcorders. I'm partial to the Sony HD right now, because my son's is a Sony SD and I'm used to the menus. *But* I'm open to suggestions as the Sony is almost $500 for just the camera, much less another card and battery so I can do the entire 90 minute game. Anybody have an HD camcorder they are happy with? (or wish they had never bought?) Particularly one that doesn't cost an arm *and* a leg? Thanks,
  17. It's near Dallas, between the football/baseball park and Braly Field (the soccer park) on North Industrial Blvd. (it's the Paulding county sports complex) If you Google map "Paulding county sports complex, dallas, ga, 30132" it will find it. As I recall, it was a community effort to put it all together and raise the funds for it. Pretty cool.
  18. Is there a web site or somewhere to look to see what our rating is now, or do I have to call the agent and have them look it up? Thanks, SG
  19. LOL, for REAL. In writing is the *only* way I'd trust 'em.
  20. Anybody have any idea how much of the county does NOT have water service available? Pumpers with storage like those must be critical for those areas. I imagine these were purchased with the current Public Service SPLOST money. Money well spent.
  21. Ah, but in all those previous SPLOST votes, they had specific items they were going to buy with the money. This is the first time since I've been here (since 2000) that I've seen the primary task of the SPLOST as being tax relief. I see this as the BOE finally seeing reality. They knew that the "For the Children" was going to fall flat this time, they can't claim they need any more building money, they are still chewing through the bond money and matching state funds. So what to do with the SPLOST? They could just let it expire, but instead they are giving us a choice: 1) Continue
  22. I guess these few people: "Only few people in the world know that Korea is divided by a big concrete wall" are the ones that read the website... everybody else gets it right!
