  1. Each Christmas I buy my hubby a mountain of socks and underwear. He throws out everything in his drawers and starts the new year with all new. I love buying all his socks at the same time. They're all the same so I don't have to match socks when I do laundry.
  2. My daughter started with it last Sunday and still has it. Dr. said it was flu but didn't see the need to test for it. Said it will last for 7 to 10 days. I'm giving Motrin and Theraflu every 6 hours to keep the fever down. Without the meds. her fever gets up to 104. Hopefully, she'll be finished with this in a few more days. I beg that nobody else in our house gets it. She has been miserable. I just read on AJC.com that the CDC is reporting the flu is starting in Georgia this year. Sometimes it's not so good to be first.
  3. My hubby is getting a RoKu for Christmas. It allows us to stream movies from the internet. The RoKu is $79.00 and NetFlix service is $10 per month. After Christmas we are cancelling all our movie channels from Comcast. This switch will save us $220 for the first year and $420 each year after that.
  4. There is a Men's big and tall shop on Barrett Parkway. It is in the shopping center that has Honey Baked Ham and David's Bridal. I bought a couple things there for my uncle. They had name brand items at very reasonable prices.
  5. Good morning PCom. Yes, it's cold, but I LOVE my heated seats!
  6. I need a purple netbook. No, lavender won't do and neither will the funky skins. She must have purple.
  7. I'm about 2/3 finished. I've been to the stores and I've done the online thing. There are just a few people that are incredibly hard to shop for.
  8. Imagine the life these poor boys had. Their mother (who had full custody) was a convicted child molester.
  9. You have to remember back then Dr's didn't have the knowledge or technology thay do today. There's really no way I could say what I would have done back in the '50s. Let's take it farther and consider the generation of our grand parents and great grandparents who were born at home. It was not uncommon for Dr's to quickly end the life of a struggling newborn. If they could see an obvious problem the Doctor would take the infant outside for a "fresh breath", hold his hand over the child's face, and return telling the mother the child didn't make it. I've worked in a couple nursing home
  10. I think there are many reasons. Sure we hear about these things more because of the media. Yes, there is a level of desensitization. A major part could be the lack of real life experiences. People live through the media. If you are watching a show on TV and there is a horrible car crash, you probably don't even flinch, instead you just keep watching the movie. However, if you're driving and you witness a horrible car crash you might be pretty shaken -- even for a couple of days. You might also re-check to make sure everyon is wearing their seatbelt, or even slow down and consciously
  11. Didn't you just get back from Florida? Did you do a lot of walking barefoot on the beach? I LOVE to walk on the beach barefoot. I can walk for miles on end. The only problem is when I do, the backs of my knees hurt for a few days. It actually feels like a burn in the deep tissue. Hopefully, that's all it is and it will heal itself in a few days. In the meantime it's a good excuse to rest for a few days.
  12. I dread it fo rmultiple reasong. But, I'll put on a happy face for my kids. I'll go through the motions. I'll dress nicely, smile pretty, and put up all the decorations. I just look forward to a future relaxed and low key Christmas season. I really would like to enjoy a Christmas instead of dealing with all the required family drama.
  13. I'm excited. I remember watching Diana's wedding. It was elegant in every way and it was something I will never forget. I can't wait to watch this wedding.
  14. I lost my dad two years ago and I don't have anyone to get deer meat from. I'll gladly pay for one if someone would get one for me.
  15. Aspen has a pretty good oyster bar.
  16. I cooked a rotisserie chicken and served it with scalloped potatoes and steamed broccoli.
  17. I don't see it as lowering standards, I see it as eliminating a redundant test. The students have to pass an end of course test (EOCT) after certain subjects are taken each year. If they've already passed all the EOCTs then they've already answered the questions on the graduation test. I don't have a problem with them eliminating either the EOCT or the Graduation test, just not both. Redundant tests are expensive and time consuming. As it stands now, students are tested over the same material at least four times. 1. at the end of the unit of study 2. at the final exam 3. at the E
  18. I don't know but since he's 8 he doesn't need anything super fancy. I would check with local pawn shops. If he falls in love with it and uses it often you can always upgrade later. Have fun.
  19. Now THAT'S something to be thankful for.
  20. It was sleeting in Acworth about an hour ago. Now the sun is shining.
  21. I use the taco seasoning powder and I mix it in just enough water to cover the chicken.
  22. I have mine cooking right now. I've thrown in some (raw) chicken breasts and covered them with taco seasoning. When the chicken starts falling apart I'll shred it and the kids will use it as stuffing for enchiladas. I'll freeze the leftovers in cup containers and use it as a baked potato filling for lunch. I love, love, love my crock pots.
