  1. Did you ever watch that show "Time Warp"? It came on Discovery Channel and they had the high-speed cameras set up and recorded all sorts of things like that. They did guns, bow and arrow, popping a balloon, water drops, all sorts of things. It was pretty cool.
  2. Two employees used the bathroom and didn't wash their hands, one started washing dishes and the other started cooking food. One employee was handling raw chicken/beef and grabbed a clean plate and put a tortilla shell on it--with the same gloves that had been handling the raw chicken. That will cause serious cross-contamination and make someone seriously ill. Raw food was stored too close to cooked food, someone handled raw food then handled washed vegetables without washing hands in between. The biggie is the "cold food" cooler was above 41 degrees, with cooked chicken at 44 degrees. The
  3. I had a wedding invitation returned to me as "No mail receptacle." I called that particular relative, verified the address, told her why it was returned, and she told me she was staring at her mailbox outside by the street. I guess they get so busy and goof up every now and then.
  4. Tess, I'm having the same problem! It slowly shifted from 2 days prior to the day of, and more than once they've put me in bed, in a dark room with a cold washcloth on my head. It's just been the past few years when I stopped taking the pill and I've thought about getting back on it even though I don't need it for its original purpose. How long did yours last? And with the migraine thing--it drives me up the wall when somebody is walking around at work or in the store, hand on their head, saying "I've got a migraine" and still functioning. No, if you're upright and eyes are open it's a tens
  5. I've done allergy testing on patients ranging from 4 months to 90 years, so we test and treat every age range. What I've heard about CAA is what patients have told us when they transferred from them to our practice. The doc that said kids under 4 can't have allergies--if it was with the largest allergy practice in the southeast, then that doc's no longer with the practice. Anyway, some basic questions--yes, you have to stop any antihistamines 5-7 days prior to allergy testing. If you don't then the antihistamine will be in your system and can block the reactions of any allergy testing. Al
  6. I am kinda partial to the allergy and asthma clinic with 19 locations around the Atlatna area, including Douglasville and Austell. The other one has a location in Hiram and Villa Rica but I haven't heard good things about them at all. Anyway, see an allergist. They can skin test you to find out what you're allergic to and start you on allergy shots. An allergy is basically your body's way of over-reacting to pollen, mold, dust mites, animals, etc. Allergy shots are very small, very weak amounts of those allergens injected back into your body in the office. Your body recognizes them and l
  7. Horrible analogy. Helicopters=PTSD? Um, no.
  8. I was trying so hard not to laugh at the cat story. Granted, it was a huge cat (22-pound Himalayan), but couldn't they trap the cat under a laundry basket or something? Or open the door and run out while the cat ran in and trap the cat in the room? And regarding the coach, several former and current players came to her defense. I agree with your visualization of "The Fridge" and Ditka!! LOL
  9. I knew someone who had a Jeep Liberty and a sensor kept going off like yours is. He replaced that same oxygen sensor several times but it'd keep tripping. Seems like Jeep has buggy sensors? Hope you get yours resolved!
  10. Hubby works at BoxBoard so he's in that area daily. Luckily he left early and missed this completely. Prayers to all those involved and the families. That being said, I wanted to point out that it is usually the fault of the car driver, not the truck driver, when there's a car/truck collision. People forget that big rigs can't stop like cars can and aren't as agile. Hubby, FIL, and a cousin have all driven trucks at one point or another. Still a horrible situation though.
  11. Nieces go to PC and live off Hiram Sudie just before the Davis Mill intersection. I'm off Sweetwarer Church and am in Hiram HS district (for now anyway, you know how they like to redraw districts around here!). I think outsiders see the county as a whole as rednecks who chew and spit and carry our shotguns with us. I don't think they realize how awesome we really are!
  12. For barbecue pork? It's easy. Throw a pork roast in the crockpot and season it with seasoned salt, pepper, and a little garlic salt. Add a little water and let cook on high all day. When it's fork tender, drain the water and shred the pork in the crockpot. Add barbecue sauce and let simmer on low until ready to eat. Makes awesome sandwiches or just pulled pork with sides of your choice. We use Sonny's sweet BBQ sauce.
  13. Thank you PCSD for getting the situation under control quickly and efficiently! My oldest is at Austin, so when I heard they were on lockdown too I was in a bit of a panic. I think they locked down Austin to transport kids from SP to Austin. This situation could have been sooooo much worse and the tears that have threatened all morning would be real and for a different reason. I'm so thankful and praising God that nobody was hurt, the kids were okay, and am going to hug my 12-year-old so hard today. He left his phone at home this morning (of all the days!) so I'm not in contact with him b
  14. Mrs G--the FHS subs under 500 calories are basically their most popular cold subs. Their Hook & Ladder, for example, is the same sandwich but they put one slice of cheese instead of two slices and used light mayo--that resulted in a low-calorie sandwich. I tried that and you cant tell the difference between that and the regular H&L. I like FHS, Subway is okay, and I'm addicted to Lenny's!
  15. I never say the "b" word, the "s" word, or the "q" word at work (bored, slow, or quiet) because that's when patients start having major problems. Okay, stupid joke of the day. What did the guy say when he walked into the building?Ouch!
  16. She says her parents kicked her out on her 18th birthday; mom and dad say she moved out on her own free will because she didn't want to obey their rules (curfew, respect, stop bullying the sister, a few chores). She's living with her best friend's family. Best friend's dad is an attorney but not the one representing her; he does recommend her parents to pay the court costs of $12,000. Teenybopper wants parents to pay the remainder of her tuition for her private school for this year, pay all her college tuition and fees when she starts next year, and give her back her car (which her parents
  17. Amen MomOf3! My middleschooler is very smart but has horrible handwriting and spelling and that hasn't affected any paper ever. Spelling, grammar, and penmanship aren't factored into the grade. When I was in school we got points taken off for misspelled words, missing punctuation, and even penmanship, but he's never had a negative mark due to those. They quit teaching cursive the year before he would have learned it in school so I've got to teach him at home. It's sad that he can't read cards from his grandmother because he can't read cursive.
  18. So sorry. Good luck with the search!
  19. Oh, I agree completely. Customer service skills aren't taught, encouraged, or emphasized anymore. When I worked at the grocery store we were trained to make eye contact with the customer, greet them, and make the check-out experience about them. No gum at all, no food/drink, no chit-chat with coworkers. If we had nobody in our line, offer the next customer in another lane. If there was no one at all, stock the bags on the rack or straighten the gum and candy display. Push come to shove, stand in front of your lane ready to direct the next person to your lane with no waiting. Today, it's
  20. I worked in a grocery store that started as 24-hour then started closing at midnight. Every night at 11:50 I'd get on the intercom and announce that we were closing in ten minutes, please make your final selections and head toward the cashier. Five minutes later I'd repeat the message with the 5-minute warning. At midnight the incoming doors were locked and I'd walk the aisles making sure no one else was in the building then lock the outgoing doors. I made no bones about what time we closed. Target makes announcements before their closing also. My previous work has different hours a
  21. Ask the school for the forms for food allergy and action plan. Your pediatrician can fill it out and it specifically states what foods the child can NOT have and if any substitutions can be made. There are children with food allergies, life-threatening food allergies, that must avoid certain foods and we fill those out all the time. Good luck!
  22. The place that serves milkshakes with a low score has employees smoking marijuana on the clock and managers that look the other way. Their milkshakes aren't that good anyway. But yeah, where are the good places to eat in Paulding? Dallas Seafood is good but I'm hoping their scores have come back up and stayed up!
  23. Our favorite wedding gift we received is a large, 6-quart pan with a lid. We both cook so we use it almost every day. For sentinmental value get the Willow Tree figurines at Hallmark. There's some wedding ones that are nice.
  24. HWAM--which one on Ridge? By Kroger at Dallas-Nebo, or by Publix at 61? I frequent the Kroger one regularly. All Mexican tastes the same to me--ground beef, shredded lettuce, cheese, and a tortilla, with chips and cheese dip. I wasn't impressed with Huey Luey's the one time I've been there. As far as casual dining, the big American chains (Chili's, Applebees, O'Charley's, etc) are all getting to be generic. I will never order a steak from Longhorn until they learn how to cook it properly--so tired of overcooked steak even when ordering it under what I normally ask for.
