  1. Hubby got a phone call from the credit union two weeks ago questioning a charge on his bank card. He verified that he did NOT order anything from China, so they declined the charge, closed that card and issued a new one. When I heard about the Home Depot thing I mentioned it to hubby and he pulled records. Yep, he'd been to the HD a few times since April. It was great that the credit union caught the charge, especially since Home Depot didn't notify us of the breach!
  2. Same here. I'm in south Paulding and the starting price in our neighborhood is $170. We live in a nice, good neighborhood surrounded by good neighborhoods. I don't see south Paulding as the bad part of the county by any means. We're between Hiram and Douglasville for shopping/eating/entertainment, but still rural enough to have open space around us and see the stars at night. I LOVE our location and our school district.
  3. I've never read or seen it. When I was in school, everybody else in my various English classes had read it with a previous teacher so it was never assigned. (Speaking of high school, I also never dissected a frog because the frog supplier was out when it was my class's turn for it, so no froggies for us). I've also never seen Casablance, Citizen Cain, One Flew Over The Cuckoo's Nest, any of the Godfather series, or the Star Wars movies besides the first one (episode IV, but the first one released).
  4. I'll never forget. I was pregnant with my first child so I was even more emotional. Not only was that day so horrific and tragic, but the days/weeks/months following brought a renewed sense of strength, unity, community, hope, and patriotism that I will never forget. Heroes emerged from the rubble and in the skies and I hold onto that every day.
  5. Him. Men who physically, sexually, verbally, or emotionally abuse their partners are not only mentally sick, they are very manipulative and controlling. It's so easy for someone on the outside looking in to say she should have left, but people don't realize how much power the man has exerted over the woman. I highly doubt that was the first, or last, time he laid a hand on her, just the only time it got caught on film. A friend of mine married her abuser, had 3 kids with him, and he started beating her while pregnant with her 1st one. When she was pregnant with her 3rd, she was on the dri
  6. Prayers for your son and you. There's no more helpless feeling than being so far from your child and not able to hug, not able to kiss it and make it all better. Remind him there are people who would LOVE to fly jets but can't. When I was much younger I wanted to join the Air Force and fly F-16s--except that I'm a woman, I'm short, and I'm very, very near-sighted so there's no way in the world I'd be able to. Tell him to keep with it, keep his chin up, and in the words of Dory--just keep swimmin', just keep swimmin', just keep swimmin'.
  7. There's a place called the Dispensary of Hope that takes samples from doctor's offices, but I'm not sure if they'll accept any from an individual or not. I don't even have a phone number or anything but try Googling them.
  8. I am so sorry, Momof3. Hugs. Take care of yourself so you don't get run down and worn out physically and mentally so you can be strong for your family. I have a cousin that's dying from kidney failure (in ICU right now, just days left) and my mom's best friend of 50 years was told yesterday that she only has 2 months left--IF she can tolerate the new chemo she just started. My FIL died last year from lung cancer that wasn't diagnosed until 10 days before his death. Ten days. He, too, had had repeated surgeries and treatments for lung infections and a collapsed lung. Just do what you can
  9. Did it ever come out on DVD? I know it was on SyFy, didn't think it was released. DVR it.
  10. I've been there with my ex and his new baby and my own new baby. My ex and I have a pretty good divorce relationship so we're good about communicating when it's his weekend/my weekend and something needs to be rearranged, or if there's a family function and we need our child for one or the other. When my ex's fiancee was in labor with their child, they asked if I could keep our son at home instead. My son had to wait a few days to meet his sister, but everybody was fine with that. When I was in labor with my baby with my new husband, my oldest was with his dad but his dad knew what was goi
  11. My son's tae kwon do instructor was one of the people interviewed. So glad nobody was hurt.
  12. The "shuttle" is typically a regular school bus, so someone in a wheelchair may not be able to get on the bus.
  13. The fact that it's cheese "product" should be a warning. I refuse to buy it but hubby uses it for grilled cheese sandwiches and cheeseburgers; I use cheddar or colby jack on mine.
  14. We stopped in there about a month ago so hubby could grab a couple of cupcakes and cookies. He was in there two minutes and came right back out, empty-handed. He said their displays were mostly empty and what was out looked stale. He said nobody asked if he needed help and it looked run down. We used to go in there every other week when it was on Ridge Road. The one that replaced it on Ridge Road has a "For Sale" sign out front by the gas pumps, but the open sign was lit.
  15. My cousin's now-ex-wife intiiated their divorce and forced him to leave their her (notice "her" home and not "their") home. They had had a decent marriage until she had their baby, when she flipped. I don't know if it was postpartum or what, but she kinda went bonkers. She refused to let him see their son until a court date when the judge ordered her to let him have weekend custody. The judge had a deputy accompany him to get their son and bring him back. As soon as the divorce was finalized (during which she attempted to claim my cousin's vehicle, which was in his and his grandmother's n
  16. Prayers for your familly and you. You need to make sure you don't get run down with all this because you'll be needed as they both recover. Hugs!!!
  17. Do the kids have access to a microwave to heat up their lunch if they bring it from home? When I was in school we didn't have a way to heat up anything, so it was cold/cool food only. My 7th grader eats lunch 2nd period so he's starving by the time he gets home. I'd love to send a bigger lunch with him besides just a sandwich every single day. He'd love to bring leftover spaghetti or something with substance to tide him over all day.
  18. Yes, the place on 92 in Hiram behind Royal Pet Resort has parking storage. There's an automatic gate that you can only enter with a code. Royal Pet Resort handles it I do believe. They're around $50/month.
  19. I lost a good friend to suicide when we were 16. It took years to finally realize that there is never a single, simple answer to "why" that happens, no matter who it is. That time, the lowest point ever in my life, did open my eyes to one thing: when someone is suffering from depression (my friend was bipolar, so there were swings from depression to mania), all they can see is their pain and are desperate for an escape. They don't look at death as the end but relief. It's like being in a burning room full of smoke, you just want to run to the nearest door instead of looking for the safest
  20. So sad. When someone's suffering from depression, they're in such a dark place and all they can see is their pain; the only escape from pain, death. No one but him will ever know what was going through his mind in those last few moments. My heart and prayers go out to his family in this horrible time, and comfort as they wonder what they missed and if they could have stopped him. Nanu-nanu.
  21. Told middleschooler the same thing I was told growing up: don't ever throw the first punch, but you'd better throw the last one. Don't start it but finish it. He had one incident in elementary school where the same kid kept getting in his face at recess, stopping him from running his race, and after 4-5 laps doing that, he yelled at the kid who then swung. Other kid didn't realize that my son was a red belt in karate, so he effectively blocked the punch and got the kid on the ground. Both boys were hauled off the the office, and when the vice principal called all she said was that my son
  22. If you get one of those postcards in the mail for hearing aids only $299 at a place in Kennesaw--throw it away. Check with different ENTs. I worked for an ENT that has a full-time audiologist in the practice who did everything from hearing tests to balance/vertigo to hearing aids. Almost all, if not all by now, hearing aids are digital. If you have a choice, don't get the CIC (completely in canal) aids, opt for ones that sit behind your ear with just a slim tube that actually goes into the ear canal. The CIC aids of yesterday completely block the ear canal, so sounds are muffled, and they
  23. When homeschooling is done right, it's great for those that can do it. They do have a curriculum to follow but have more non-textbook-related methods to learn. Unschooling has no curriculum, parents let their kids decide what they're doing that day.
