  1. I was born and raised in Cobb County and I know that there is a part of Cobb that we labeled "East Cobb Snobs" and it was the ritzy part of the county, Lassiter/Wheeler/Walton school districts. I haven't really heard about East Paulding Snobs but I distinctly remember a thread on PCom several months back talking about good middle schools. One of the replies in that thread said that any school in South Pauldin (as in, anywhere south of Hiram) was horrible; seems to me there is a negative view of the southern portion of the county. I love living out here, love the quiet and small-town feel (e
  2. The number of "selfies" a person can post? I have a couple of friend on Facebook, both very sweet people, who post a new profile pic or 2-3 new self portraits every other day. We know what you look like, you're still pretty, put down the camera phone and step away from the mirror.
  3. As a band geek who was teased and picked on mercilessly, I think it's great that the football players aren't allowed to get away with it because they're the jocks, the popular kids. I wish more coaches and teachers would adopt this policy. Hopefully the kids will learn something from this and rectify their behavior and not go after their target seeking revenge.
  4. I love James Patterson and have read most of the Alex Cross series. The books are much better than the movies--don't judge a book by its movie--and the older books in the series have titles similar to nursery rhymes, like Along Came A Spider and Big Bad Wolf; the latter books in the series have the name Cross, such as Double Cross and Cross Country. He's a homicide detective in Washington, D.C. and a psychologist so he evaluates and solves the crimes. The chapters are very short and suspenseful so it's hard to put the book down--just one more chapter, no after this chapter, no I have to see
  5. A license plate for your bicycle? I don't think so. If your child outgrows his bike (kids do grow) would the tag be transferred to the new bike, or would you have to get a new tag for the new bike? Are cops going to patrol the Silver Comet Trail and write tickets for a bike with an expired tag? Smh.
  6. Look for the ABCD of a mole or freckle. A--asymmetry, not the same on both sides: B--borders, irregular or blurred borders, not well-defined; C--color, very dark brown or black; D--diameter, larger than the size of a pencil eraser. Those will definitely be checked out. Hubby had a biopsy one one spot and it was precancerous so they removed the entire spot. My sister had one spot completely removed in a biopsy (that was cancerous but they got the whole thing) and part of another one biopsied (that was precancerous so they're watching that one). Good luck and kudos for going!
  7. Doesn't Joshua's Law require a certain amount of interstate driving for teen drivers? I haven't fully researched it yet but I know it requires different driving conditions and locations. As for the motorcycles, I agree with hating to see the idiots weaving in and out of lanes, splitting lanes, and going 100--and hubby and I both ride bikes!
  8. And why is that? Because my hubby certainly can't strap our toddler's car seat to the luggage rack of his Harley and has to drive the truck to take him to daycare the days I work long hours? Don't know why your snarky little comment ticked me off, but it did. There's reasons why people can't ride 7 days a week and your judgemental and ignorant remark is out of line. I look better in leather chaps.
  9. I always wait about a month before I upgrade. Hubby did the iOS5 the day it came out and had soooo many problems with it; I waited until they released the 5.1 and missed the issues. I don't jump the instant it says to jump.
  10. I wish the homeowners in our subdivision actually had a say-so in anything. It's all an outside management company, yet we have to submit a design, dimensions, and picture before we can get approval for any outside buildings, from a fence to a deck. No person to talk to, just a PO box to mail that and our yearly dues to. And yes, my friends have a horrible HOA and have actually moved.
  11. Yay! But I'm sure that mom is going to be sued by the other little darling's parents for something or other.
  12. Hubby's premiums are going up a LOT due to this. Since I have a job, hubby's insurance won't cover me because I can get my own coverage. My premiums are going up and most of my single coworkers are opting for the $10,000 deductible plan to afford the premiums for themselves and their children.
  13. I hate HOAs. We pay our annual dues and get. . .nothing in return. N.O.T.H.I.N.G. No club house, no pool, no playground, no tennis courts, no sidewalks, no streetlights, no HOA meetings, no grass cut on the unsold lots, AND the builder has left the subdivision. The HOA management company runs the HOA, the homeowners don't even handle it! Anyway, a friend lived in a condo with HOA and they had to sell their vehicle because the HOA banned pickup trucks from being allowed in the community. Didn't matter if it was in the garage or not, you couldn't have a pickup truck. A few months later th
  14. Anybody notice the part about the Florida law banning texting while driving goes into effect Oct 1, but bus drivers are exempt from it? Why are BUS DRIVERS exempt from the law????!!
  15. Liquid Benadryl--it'll be the kids version but adult dosing is included. Make an appointment with an allergist, we can test for stinging insect and fire ant allergies, and if you are allergic you can take allergy shots to desensitize against it. You never know when the swelling outside with turn into swelling inside--your throat, your tongue, etc. Also, you can get a rx for an EpiPen in the event of another sting and serious reaction.
  16. Exactly. I've had new patients call and talk to me before they schedule their appointment and DEMAND that we run the tests at their first visit or they'll find someone who will. The won't listen when I say the doctor will have to be the one to decide that and order the test if it's indicated. Yet, if we do a test and it's negative then they complain about how we wasted their time and money. Then you also have those who call and demand antibiotics for a viral infection, or refuse to be seen when they ask for antibiotics and we haven't seen them in over a year, or get mad when I won't immedi
  17. I'm upset that a neighbor's kid broke our garage door window and didn't tell his parents what happened (even though hubby told the kid to go home NOW and tell your parents--hubby was in the garage when the window was shattered, luckily not close enough to get cut by the glass, and there were 3 other kids that saw the kid break the window). Three days later I texted the mom to see if she knew what happened. Her reply was the exact same thing I told her; they were playing, he threw the ball and it hit the garage door window. A later text said, "sorry :/" That's it. No real apology, no offer
  18. Yes, it's gross and I would have asked if she was okay and told her to wash her hands, for her own sake as well as mine, and treat the cut. If she had touched my food containers prior to washing I would have asked for new containers--from the manager if the manager was getting defensive. There is still a small possibility that a blood-borne pathogen could have gotten to you if she had a drop of blood on your food container and you cut your own finger on your food container in the exact same place. Healthcare workers are vaccinated against the Hep B virus just in case. We're also taught tha
  19. There's a difference between drunk rednecks arguing over the jukebox and a man defending himself or his wife/mom/sister/girlfriend when being insulted or threatened.
  20. Where is The Steakhouse? I know it's in Rockmart, but is it right on 278 or do I need to turn on 113 or 101? Thanks! I've heard great things about it for years and have never been there! I was hoping Dallas Fish Market or whatever it's called had a better score. Their food was good but I'm waiting for at least a 95 to get me back.
  21. A favorite of mine is Watcher In The Woods. Just a hint of spooky but none of the gore that you see nowadays. Also enjoy Hitchcock.
  22. I laughed so hard at this. Hubby has a Harley and I have a Suzuki (scooter, but it's more like a motorcycle than a little moped, 400cc). Leather is the most protective thing you can wear for protection from road rash and even cool temps. The bikers I know are very nice, friendly, regular people. They work regular jobs and ride on the weekends. I can see them inviting PETA to the party--and showing the "secret handshake" to a select few.
  23. Hug your kids and spouse daily and tell them you love them. Greet your spouse with a kiss every evening and give them a kiss when they (or you) leave for the day. Kiss your kids (if they'll let you--my oldest will only let me kiss the top of his head if NO ONE is watching). Tell your spouse and kids you love them--frequently. Congrats on the sobriety!!
  24. Your pediatrician will have one, just call them and tell them you need the eye/ear/dental form. You'll need to schedule a check up for them to do a quick vision screening and hearing check. Not sure if you'll need the dental check up for middle school or not, but definitely get the hearing/vision done. ETA: Your elementary school should have sent it over if one was done for kindergarten; you may want to double check with your elementary school.
  25. You can do a lot with the iPad, including Facebook and Skype and all that junk, but you can't do much in the way of Word and Excel-type documents and you can't print from the iPad. You can buy a cover for it that includes a keyboard so you can type a little easier than the touchscreen (and lovely autocorrect) but I'd rather use a laptop/desktop for Word and stuff.
