  1. No more dangerous than sending your kid to GA Tech, which is what I'm doing. Actually I trust the sharks more than the thugs.
  2. I am not a fan of suspension as it is used in today's schools. I think responsible parents would force their kids to do chores, extra work as punishment, reflect on why they were suspended and concentrate on academics. Unfortunately most of the delinquents that are suspended today go home to an empty house, play video games, sleep late and find more trouble and enjoy a vacation. The article says these pieces of S--t will attend a "alternative program at the district’s reengagement center." Whatever the hell that is. I imagine it's double speak for an alternate school, but we will get them "ree
  3. I guess everyone has their own personal experiences. I lost count with how many boxes, routers and other pieces of equipment Comcast has replaced , just since I moved to PC a few years ago, not counting the previous address. The constant problems with programming loading on their On Demand service, along with billing problems are just many of the issues I deal with. I suppose the worst example of their mentality was to wake up one day to no internet and cable only to find out we had been disconnected. After numerous phone calls I was told it was a technical issue and someone would come out to r
  4. I never even knew he was coming to Atlanta until I heard the traffic report stating that all north bound lanes of 75 were closed. I'm not a fan of any politician, could care less. But to give the guy grief for inconvenience is one sided. George W Bush flew in numerous times to Dobbins and caused traffic jams around 41,Delk,75 etc. I remember sitting on the off ramp from 120 for 30 mins because there were alternate routes planned. So don't give me the one sided crap. I just made sure to stay away today. The only cool thing about any of their visits, Bush or Obama, was seeing AF1.
  5. As someone who travels all over the metro Atlanta area everyday and values the traffic reports, as well as a wife who works in the heart of Buckhead, I feel bad to say this, but here it goes. Paulding is our oasis at the end of the day to be honest. It's why we moved here years ago, so we could enjoy the things that are true to our hearts, peace and people who nod their heads to you as they drive by. Opposed to the horns blowing, fingers flipping, crime etc we experience all day in our places of work. So yeah sometimes I find myself wanting Paulding to stay just as it is, with maybe a few chan
  6. I've seen warehouse/ delivery driver job openings with my own company over the past few years be difficult to fill due to various reasons. These are jobs with good hourly pay, excellent insurance benefits, paid vacation, 401K , you name it. All that was required was a GED minimum, clean driving record, pass a criminal background check, and drug screen. You'd be surprised what you get! Applicants not passing the drug screen, DUI's on their driving records if not numerous tickets, or even felonies. It has taken months at times to fill a position due to the pool of applicants.
  7. Man I hate I missed this! I would have brought a bottle of Sunday purchased whiskey to the BBQ to share with everyone!
  8. My wife and I drive through that area just about every day during rush hour. Trust me, you're not going to hand out many speeding tickets at that intersection during those hours. I usually see them ticketing for gore and seat belt violations.
  9. Grew up in Savannah and going to Tybee was like going to Allatoona for folks around here. I still take the family there today when we're visiting Savannah. Yeah it doesn't have the big hotels, bars, bikini contests, golf courses etc. The beaches maybe so so, not many people there. These are all the more reason to go as far as I'm concerned. I love it that people stay away frankly, 80 leads to and from, just means my family has more privacy. To each his own.
  10. The pic looks just like Sam. He's the Eastern King Snake that lives in our back yard. Yes he is ALIVE and that makes him all the better! I was much more calm seeing him on many occasions this year than I was the water moccasin that swam downstream towards me when I was wading around trout fishing this weekend.
  11. Good ID on the Corn Snake. Too bad it's dead. I remember the first time I saw one in the wild it was so brightly colored and laying near my grandparents garden. My grand father told me to leave the guy alone they he would take care of those rats that and birds that were trying to take our food.
  12. I'm from Savannah, trust me there are alligators in south GA. Used to see them as a kid all the time around the Ogeechee river and the fresh water marshes in and around Savannah. I've been fishing on some private ponds in Burke county just south of Augusta and had one swim by my boat. Fascinating animals in a lot of ways.
  13. I've been a lover of reptiles all my life, catching and releasing lizards and snakes when I was kid all summer long. I read every book in the library I could get my hands on to absorb as much information as possible during that time. Neighbors used to call my mom and ask her to send me over to get rat snakes, corn snakes etc out of their house or porch when I was young. I have stopped on country roads and chased black racers and other snakes out of the road to save them from becoming road kill. My funniest time had to be when I was visiting some one in a rural town in SC and went to the public
  14. If you want to get a long thread started, post a question concerning which Chinese or Mexican restaurant is the best in this area. You'll get more opinions than cars on 285 at rush hour. I learned years ago to try establishments according to my own taste to a degree and if I like it, go with it. There are people that get excited every time a mass franchise restaurant opens around here, or even a new fast food joint, which is not anything for me to get excited about at all. To each their own. It was trial and error for each restaurant on our favorites list. Man did we go through some bad ones.
  15. That's what I'm trying to get answered. You and these panel of "experts" keep saying there are other means of detecting the cancer that may be more effective. Surely everyone is not suggesting to use the actual physical symptoms as an indicator rather than a blood test. That's like using the actual chest pains as an indicator for heart problems as opposed to blood test, ekg etc. I know everyone hates for that "one guy" to speak about this, but based on the line above it made me think. I read that and thought, what other means would have helped or shown the problem? One thing that I learned abo
  16. I read the story, the day of the news release which was over a week ago. I've seen countless news stories pertaining to this subject, discussed it with fellow survivors and took the time to listen to the NPR audio version. I am very well aware of the findings and the decision handed down by the task force. Also heard both sides of the coin as far as views. So as far as understanding , there's a world of understanding I know far too well. GMAFB
  17. That's sad that those pics were taken on a Sunday afternoon and the streets are vacant. The streets of Acworth and a few other town squares were hopping this weekend when I passed through. Definitely will have to let the current crop of decision makers weed themselves out, filter out, die off etc in order for progress to help the town. I've seen the same type of thing before with backwoods thinking and towns that stood still until the new blood took power. Downtown Dallas could be so much more if there were minds that thought in the year 2012 rather than 1812. But hey the statue is nice.
  18. Put anybody's pic up that doesn't fit the "standard" set by some people, and you'll get judgment. I've come to learn it's the norm around here. Hope she is reunited with her family safely.
  19. I'm going to use this exact same scenario in July when I return to my doctor to get my bi annual PSA test. We use it as an indicator to see if the cancer has returned. I always hope for 0, but now I know that's really just BS. Maybe I should take the advice and laugh it off. Or even go dressed in chaps and my ariat boots and brown stetson to ride the bull at the office. Matter of fact with Father's Day approaching maybe more men would like to hear this story. I find it ironic that sometimes I hear people complain that big insurance companies, doctors and the medical community want to profit by
  20. I have a few crowns and did have one come out a few years ago. It was attributed to poor workmanship from the previous dentist. I also am extremely careful about what I eat. Yeah I may be over careful, but I just don't want to take chances. I just stay away from the jolly ranchers, taffy and even some gum. Just not worth losing the investment. Try a new dentist.
  21. Yes this is true, there are symptoms that will alert you to the fact that you now have prostate cancer. You can rely on waiting for extreme pains in your hips, bones and painful urination for one. This could alert you to visit your doctor for a few possible reasons, BPH,etc. You can also use a simple inexpensive blood test. It's no more invasive than sticking a needle in your arm. We do it all the time to get our Cholesterol levels checked, and that's not a sure indicator for heart disease or heart attacks. I never advocate using the PSA as THE indicator or sole decision maker in what path to
  22. I have a real problem with the advice that was given in the past few weeks concerning PSA testing. First of all the actual body of experts appointed by our government to "protect" us and give this advice. The United States Preventative Services Task Force is composed of primary care physicians and epidemiologists. See anyone missing in that list that you might think would be present if you were handing out advice to men concerning prostate cancer? Oh I don't know, maybe a damn urologist or oncologist? The PSA test itself is not harmful, as mention in your earlier statement, it is simply a bloo
  23. I just hope I can make it to the poles to even vote with all the traffic due to the increase in gay marriages and domestic abuse. All caused by the Sunday alcohol sales of course. That Heath, he was right.
  24. I first saw the guy in Feb at 92 and Macland. Read his sign and remembered 20 years ago being in a tight spot once or twice with rent, kids etc. I bought some of his cotton candy, which comes in a sealed container. I gave him the money and said keep the change as a donation. He seemed very thankful and said he hoped it came back to me over and over. My 22 year old daughter who was in the car asked me if I thought he was for real. I told her the same thing I have always told my kids. Sometimes you just give and let the cards fall where they may. Now though after I've been riding home 4 months l
  25. When I heard the series of events that led up to her tragic state, I wondered about the initial care. Every time I have had a wound that was treated at the ER, I was given antibiotics. Just recently I ripped a large gash in my finger on some lumber, which required stitches and the local urgent care in New Hope sent me home with antibiotics for precautionary reasons. Sounds as if there were a few instances where the level of care could have been better. Really hope she pulls through this.
