  1. I laughed out loud at the Faith Barbie and Tim Ken bit. Poor Faith
  2. Watch out! If they get too much free McDonald's food, then get diabetes/heart disease, they'll be suing McD.
  3. Historically, I don't think there is a huge pool of people who WANT to be mayor of Dallas. We have a couple of folks to choose from, but if you put term limits, you may run out of candidates at some point
  4. There are certain rules on the books that don't get enforced by the "higher up authorities" when parents take the issue higher so those lesser authorities on the front lines stop wasting their time enforcing them.
  5. I've not tried the beignets but the shrimp po boys were good.
  6. I was trying to clarify the information from Pubby as to whom he was referring.
  7. Would the "anti-Austin" crowd be "pro-Shearin" or former Shearin cronies?
  8. I agree with earlier posts, the length in front is not a problem, but walk, sit, and move around and the back of that skirt is going up quite a bit.
  9. I don't know, but I know if its not on Halloween, some people are going to have a "stri-ped tail fit."
  10. Exactly! And there is NOTHING wrong with that. If Dallas, or any person, neighborhood, town, or business decides to do it another night, that's fine, too. There are plenty of other places for the people to trick or treat ON Halloween. Because Dallas or someone else does it at another time, doesn't mess up Halloween if that's when you WANT to do it. If you want to trick or treat in the big downtown Dallas hoopla, then you have to do it when they plan it. This year it is ON Halloween.
  11. Many churches actually actually change the normal schedule for church by having it that Sat or an earlier time when Xmas falls on Sunday, so that the church staff can spend time with families like everyone else. So yes, having Xmas on Sunday does change things.
  12. Xmas doesn't offend me. The X was used by early Christians as a symbol for Christ, so its really not taking the Christ out of Christmas. No one is telling you when to celebrate, but the town can choose when to do its "official" celebration. It does the Christmas parade weeks before Xmas . No one is telling you when to go to houses for trick or treat, or when you can or can not dress up. If it occurs on a Sunday, its more convenient to do it the night before. I don't think the churches "control" anything about the Halloween celebration. I think the town decides when it is going t
  13. Because it is an issue of convenience. It is hard to get everything ready and have the kids out late Trick or Treating on a school/work night. Christmas, New Year's Day, Thanksgiving are all holidays where many people, especially kids, get a day off. Days that do not usually equal time off, sometimes get delayed or celebrated on another day. I'm sure if Halloween involved a day off, actually it would need to be the following day, there would be no question about when the events for the kids happen. Many Christmas parties and celebrations (like the Dallas parade) do not actually happen ON
  14. Sometimes even sweet little grannies get prescriptions for pain meds and sell them for profit. I know this is not the case with the sudafed, but even grannies can be paid to buy things for other people. Yes, our world is crazy.
  15. I'm not a fan of the govt being "Big Brother" but this tracking WAS needed. Meth is a HUGE problem, and I have no problem being slightly inconvenienced if this will help even just a little bit. Volunteer at DFCS or at the jail, if you have any questions about this inconvenience being worth it.
  16. Up toward Emerson/Acworth around Redtop Mtn on Allatoona is ok and great place for a picnic. Its pretty close.
  17. The RTI process is VERY slow . Too many kids and limited resources
  18. Something you could do on your own in the mean time is see if they have the same problem typing out their thoughts as they have writing them. If typing fast enough is a problem, you can get cheap (maybe even free on-line) programs to teach your child proper keying on a keyboard. If they can type fast enough, and they are able to type out their thoughts, it will make life much easier and would be great info for the doctor/school to use in making decisions about your child's education. Its not a waste of time either way, they learn to type properly.
  19. Harass the heck out of them!!!! Let them go somewhere else...hopefully at least out of county. Make it tough so that they do take up and move to where life is easier to do drugs. Maybe we can't defeat them totally, but get them out of here.
  20. I am going to try to attend tomorrow. I'm not faulting Mayor Austin or the police. I do get frustrated because I see it getting worse, but there's probably a lot being done that I don't see. I'm voting for Austin, not complaining against him . I like what they've done to downtown and hope it continues, but what I want them focused on, more than anything, is crime. Just letting that be known.
  21. There is a crime problem in parts of Dallas. I'm not saying there isn't crime other places, but this is where I live, and I know it exists and is getting worse. Some of those people do call the police in those areas. Are you really saying that it is futile to combat crime in Dallas? I think that is priority one for Dallas government, even above the beautification. Crime is a problem and is getting bigger. That's what I want addressed. Drugs are being sold in public on the streets, that's not petty crime. I've witnessed it. That may lead to petty crime and other problems, but the dru
  22. Today, I reminded my students to show appreciation to the their bus drivers. I asked them if they knew the best way to do it...."SIT DOWN and SHUT UP!" It was a good group so they took it with the humor intended, and I hope they did it this afternoon. I love Bus Drivers. They take my students away at the end of the day
  23. If you're a cook, introduce her to some "southern polenta," gather some recipes, put together a gift basket with some local produce and goodies, including grits recipes. Try some of the farmer's markets for local goods. You could also go by Bumblebee Bakery, or Gabriela's (Paula Dean's cousin) in Marietta on Whitlock/Dallas Hwy and get a cake or goodies. Throw in some GA wine or even muscadine wine.
  24. I agree with some of these points, but if you walk one block from the court house toward the hospital (West??? I think), you will encounter a not-so-low crime rate. I can also pin-point MANY areas inside Dallas with not-so-low crime rates, its getting worse and not better from what I've seen. That's the number one thing I want the city govt to address.
  25. Actually, I do walk downtown. If you get there early enough, there's antiques and a bakery. Nice for a short walk. Its not quite "there" but much better than it used to be. I do wish the tattoo place and dui school would not be so front and center and there could be more places open later like a coffee shop and more places to eat. Maybe I'll get my wish in the future.
