  1. If I am remembering correctly, I showed him a previous but similar thread some years back, and may have even printed it out for him. He was surprised to find he was the topic of conversation around town... His father was a true old-time farmer and still used a mule to plow when I was first formally introduced to him around 1987-88. At that time, Doug asked if I would like a yellow bell shrub for my yard and of course I said yes. Shortly after that he and the elder Mr Griffith showed up with what amounted to a truckload of shrubs and plants they had divided from their yard. There were so
  2. I enjoyed Stephen King's (fictional) interpretation better than any 'factual' account I have read so far...
  3. great answer...when you don't have one for the question actually asked. A lie is a lie or it isn't, regardless of the reason. If you don't know, don't pretend you do.
  4. He is still living. When my mother passed away last month he sent each of us a very nice card- they had been schoolmates, he and my mother. He is one of the most polite, considerate people I have ever known.
  5. The politicians are pretty accomplished at the game of defer and distract, too.
  6. It is hard to accept that an individual would be that selfish, yes. Unfortunately It's not hard to believe that their desire to remain alive and ensure the safety of their families would compel them to keep their mouths shut. If a street thug or other criminal element would kill to silence someone or eliminate competition, why on earth would someone with piles of money, power and friends in high places not do the same in order to protect their own highly profitable enterprise? While you might think it's whackadoodle to buy into any part of what most call 'conspiracy theories' I thin
  7. Seems to me that the more civilized years (ie the good old days before every other person was a criminal or child molester) seem to have been those in which everyone did not feel compelled to carry a gun. Care to link...er, discuss?
  8. I bought a USED Whirlpool set in the early 80s that I got almost 20 years out of myself. No, they don't make anything like they used to. I imagine if there is a good chance of recovering anything from the manufacturer, the insurance company will be all over that. I hate that you are having to deal with this. A house fire is one of those things you have to experience in order to understand how traumatizing it can be.
  9. Yeah I've learned my lesson about relying on 'models' a few times from those used by meteorologists to predict the weather. About as useful as statistics cited without the underlying numbers. Which is to say not very.
  10. Would be nice to see what was said immediately before this confrontation took place. While I realize I could, and probably should go to the commission meetings if I want to know, this airport thing has taken on a life of its own and the drama doesn't appeal to me at all. Too difficult to get any useful information in that atmosphere.
  11. I am sorry to hear this news; Mr Jennings was the nicest man, and always had something interesting to say. I will miss his visits to the office. My thoughts are with his family.
  12. Yes, I thought I didn't have the name right, but as I said they were only needed for a few days... so much has happened the past couple weeks, my brain is still trying to catch up. Thank you. I would use them again if in need of in-home hospice care in the future.
  13. Amerisys (maybe misspelled) was who cared for my mom (this was home care). Although she passed away only a few days after they initially came out, they were very compassionate and available to us when needed. The nurse who came out the day she passed away was wonderful and thankfully re-arranged her schedule so she could stay when she realized mama would not be with us much longer. They are out of Cartersville, I think.
  14. But you can go around the next corner and buy a fifth of liquor or a suitcase of beer, get rip-roaring drunk and cause all kinds of mayhem and that doesn't seem to alarm the jackasses who decide what we can and can't have. So basically a legislator is a lauded by these very sick people for getting a bill passed that doesn't do anybody much good at all. Stupid politics. Hope your friend is able to get some relief.
  15. -and the Republicans' leading candidates are a freak show with bad hair and a clueless doctor whose entire campaign seems to be based on his religious faith and the fact that he came from a poor home and became a doctor...seriously, they are all terrible choices.
  16. Why? Wow, you would think she insulted you directly. Why all the ugliness?
  17. There are still several areas of the county that remain a class 10 due to lack of a responding fire department within 5 miles. We even have the necessary fire hydrants for the lower class but distance to nearest station is a little over 7 miles. We have to pay the same property tax AND the additional fire tax everyone else pays, and are entitled to the same protection as anyone else in the county. Living in one of these unprotected areas, I feel they should concentrate on coverage for the whole county before they spend money as they did in Yorkville to replace a station at basically
  18. Magistrate had something to do he afternoon we were to be married, but came back that evening after hours to accommodate us. In a snowstorm, at that. We were very appreciative at the time. Looking back, I kinda wished he'd given us the "I'm southern and can't drive in snow" excuse... If they would charge at least as much for a marriage license as they do for a divorce decree, wouldn't be nearly as much of either taking place.
  19. Ah, sawed-off, self-proclaimed badasses don't have enough sense to shut up while they are ahead - he will come up against the wrong one eventually and that will be the last we hear of him. Or he will injure or kill someone else and the next jury will have sense enough to put his ass away. Doubt you would see it that way if the kid he shot had been yours...
  20. I assume they called her to pick him up at his request? I would be pretty upset if I were you, too. Too bad public safety is no longer a high priority for law enforcement and/or the people who write the laws anymore...
