  1. Coming thru the other day they had the mechanical broom out sweeping mud from asphalt. They wouldn't be doing that unless they were getting ready to pave and the only paving left looks to be bridge ties and topping. That's probably most of a month of paving. A weeks worth of striping and the rest of a month fiddling with final items, traffic signals and test burns. So my bet is 2 1/2 to 3 months.
  2. If you limit the competition for obamacare in advance of its full implementation, you make it more palatable as an eventual option. Then shortly thereafter the only option. This is the first move in what will be the eventual shove of all current and retired state employees over to obamacare. For those of you who believed the "if you have health insurance now and like it, you can keep it" stuff, here's your sign.
  3. When I was very young and very, very poor I lived at the end of the runway at Dobbins in a trailer. When I say at the end of the runway I meen exactly that. Rock throwing distance without exageration. I experienced everything that flew in and out of there up close and personal, coming and going. This thing tonight would have been close enough to have caused me to jump even back then. There is no way that was a normal flight operation. Whether or not there was a good reason for it, who knows.
  4. Went on a bike ride through the past today. (With a side trip through 7 Hills/Cedercreat for the first time in years. You people are just all kinds of fancy, ain't ya? 'Splains some.) Time goes on and all that, but it seems like at some point the people of my generation decided that we had/did nothing worth saving. Riding the Hiram, Dallas, Kennesaw, Marietta to Hiram circle you can find a whole lot of 1864. But there's not much left of 1964. Betcha we as a people come to regret that. As a famous philosopher once said, "Time marches on, for whom the bell tolls."
  5. There were news reports last summer and fall on the future of beef prices. It was said then that the drought in the central part of the country was causing producers to reduce their herds. There was an artificial low in beef prices the end of last year and then the prices just cranked right on up. Best I remember, the reports said it would get progressively worse until at least a season or two after the drought ended and herds were regrown. Pretty much the entirety of the plains states are still shown as being in exceptional drought conditions or there abouts.
  6. Thank you both. Niether one worked out for different reasons, but the effort is appreciatted.
  7. Business Owners, past business owners, anybody thats had a contract dispute. Can any of you please recommend a local attorney for these kinds of things? I need to speak with someone asap as I'm on a ten day clock to respond to the initial ugly lawyer letter. All recommendations are appreciated, never had to deal with this sort of thing before and I know absolutely nothing about finding a lawyer for it.
  8. That's the one. I knew it started with a "C". Murdered brain cells and all, ya know.
  9. The only burger I've ever had that was better came from an infamous little beer joint on SR 41 in Marietta called Charlies. I'd give anything to know how those were made, but the staff got fired if they told.
  10. Both, but on different days.
  11. According to the rumors around the neighborhood,a neighbor called in about a domestic dispute. When the cops arrived they were shot at and returned fire. According to the rumor the suspect was killed, but then they wouldn't need a helicopter. So there's probably a grain of salt or three to be taken in there somewhere.
  12. I do not speak for GDOT and I allude to no power struggle. If you want someone like GRTA or others to oversee it, fine. Capacity expansion is best handled by those that specialize in it. That's GDOT. Yes they've had problems and if you'de like I can do a "rant" that ties those problems as far back as Zell Miller, with Perdue hammering the last few nails in the coffin. But that's another subject for a different topic. I do not advocate doing nothing and really that's a misrepresentation of what I said. The way the bill providing for this is written, it can be revisited as often as every two
  13. "You failed to mention that we have an existing tsplost that will be applied to widening of the roads leading to these intersections." That TSPLOST alone cannot do even a small percentage of the minimum needed to accomplish the task. It will require that along with major state and federal funding to get it done. We couldn't even get that started with a House Speaker from right here in town. "And you need to show some credentials on your expertise" 34 years as Construction Project Engineer with GDOT. "What your rant comes down to is the Paulding DOT is incompetent" Just because we di
  14. Lot's of folks talking about truths. A couple of truths are these. The vast majority of the projects in Paulding (as a perecentage of individual projects) are intersection improvements. These will improve traffic flow thru those intersections in the short term. However, Federal requirements for things such as ADA, drainage, safety measures, pedestrian facilities, etc. Up to and including, and I'm serious about this, FISH PASSAGE, change literraly as often as monthly. As a result any and all improvements made under this limited program will have to be torn out and redone when what we so des
  15. I gave up on Folks too because of the one in D'ville. Once they moved down on the Blvd the food was absolutely terrible. But I've given Hiram a chance and found that it's much closer to the old Folk's food. Think it has something to do with volume at any of them. Their food doesn't seem to keep well. If you go in later in the afternoon for lunch, the stuff you know they make ahead of time has a stalish taste to it. Could just be my imagination though.
  16. Let's see. I pay my taxes, so that can't be it. The thought of stealing anything from anyone is foriegn to me, so it wouldn't be that either. I'm kind to children, old folks and animals, don't see how that could be the problem. Every time I've ever seen someone in real trouble I've done my best to help any way I could, probably not the issue here. I've physically defended the honor and safety of complete strangers when they were under the immenent (sic) threat of bodily harm, up to the point of risking my own life, not a reason for demonization. Most of the folks that have been in my life fit
  17. I went there yesterday afternoon. It's much better than the previous chinese buffet that was there, but that's a REALLY low target. The shrimp, both fried and garlic, where good. Everything else I tried was at best average. The tell for me is that dang whole fish (whatever it is) that these places seem compelled to put on the bar. I know that sounds kinda whacky, but it's just something I've noticed over time. Ain't no way i would ever eat it, but the overall condition of that thing seems to kinda correlate to the overall quality of the place. The one out yesterday looked to be in fair sh
  18. Stuff going on around the old R&R for about the last week. New timbers in front, shrubs cut back and a gate put up. Hoping for something usefull. Anybody got any info? Hope it's not another ill fated attempt at a "fine dining" sort of place. White table cloths and servers in monkey suits just ain't gonna work in Hiram.
  19. Google that with the word scam behind it.
  20. Have no idea what the facts of this particular case are, but just an example of what I've seen with my own eyes. Repeatedly. Drunk causes scene in bar and is asked to leave. Drunk will not leave without being physically walked to the door. Once outside drunk turns and rushes bouncer. Bouncer meets charge with two palms to the chest to keep drunk off of him. Drunk stumbles backward, falls and strikes his head on pavement. Girlfriend decides entire incident is bouncers fault, raises heck and calls police. Police arrive, big hassle, drunk goes to hospital, girlfriend demands to know why bounc
  21. Shoot, y'all get together and get up one big old order and I'll make that PCB trip for ya. Be back in time for dinner.
  22. Brown chops in whatever oil you like seasoning with salt, pepper and a little garlic powder. Make sure there is enough oil left in the pan to see on the bottom. Turn heat to a low simmer and spoon in a can of Cream of Mushroom Soup. Simmer, stirring occasionally for 20 to 30 minutes. Not the least bit healthy, but darned tastey.
  23. Don't have a grandson with a dog collar!
  24. Much easier to back, tighter turning radius. Much roomier and all around more comfortable. Downside is that if you're the least bit claustrophobic (sic?) it'll freak you out for a while with it sitting right behind you. You'll get used to it though. I've got an older one that I don't use enough to justify owning. Since I don't care if I sell it or not you're welcome to come by and take a look. Might be a cheaper way for you to get into one to see if you like it.
