  1. Just another jerk who thinks he's above the FAA rules. All electronics turned off means ALL electronics turned off. Once the FA gives the go-ahead to the captain that the cabin is ready, the plane starts moving from the gate. If he was still playing his game, he was delaying the flight. Electronics are turned off so the pilots can HEAR through their headsets without static interference. If you've ever heard a radio that's kind of between stations, and all that static noise and breaking-up, that's what the pilots are hearing if anyone has their phones/games turned on. Not a Flight Atte
  2. We're those old people who don't really want or need anything. We love to get photos of our children and grandchildren. The photo books are great! Since they do not live here, maybe they would like for you all to visit them when there's no special occasion. Drop by, take them lunch (or eat out), go on a picnic.
  3. I know it starts at 6:00. Santa will arrive shortly after. Old Town Hiram does a beautiful event! ETA: Friday night, December 2.
  4. It starts at 6:00. Santa and the Mrs. will be there!
  5. I was about to make some raspberry sauce, but a Mayberry is even better!!
  6. Maybe they would prefer to help others this year. Take them shopping for someone else, and maybe they'll pick out a couple of things they want for themselves.
  7. Olde Town Hiram will be having their Tree Lighting on Friday, December 2, 6:00 to 10:00 pm. They have a lot of things going on and of course, Santa will be there, arriving usually in a horse drawn carriage.
  8. I have 3 easy ways we like to cook pork loin (or tenderloin): 1. Put in crock pot, add 2 cans whole cranberry sauce, and a package of onion soup mix (no water needed). Cook on low 6-8 hours. Delicious! Hubby's favorite. 2. Cook in oven according to directions on package (uncovered, 1-2 hours as recommended), last 20 minutes take out and put brown sugar all over it, add some sliced or chunk pineapple on top of the sugar, and return for final cooking, until sugar is melted and pineapple is cooked. (I add some of the pineapple juice to pan before cooking the loin). Delicious! Our dau
  9. The Olde Town Hiram Tree Lighting will be Friday, December 2, 6:00-10:00 pm. Santa and the Mrs. will be there!
  10. Our newest favorites are Farkle, and Chickenfoot (a dominoes game).
  11. Distinctive Dentistry. Dr. Bickford and Dr. Shirley are both great! We've used Dr. Bickford for 25 years.
  12. I'll add that you should NOT put the sign in your yard before you intend to begin. Otherwise, people will be banging on your door at 6:00 am. I always have my DH put the directional signs out, starting at the most further point from the house, and place the sign at our driveway just as he gets back home. Usually there is a line of cars following him. Good luck!
  13. If you can't find any free ones, Dominoes are very reasonably priced at Wally World.
  14. I second Bronners. Their store is amazing, over 5 acres of Christmas! If you can't find it a Bronners, it probably doesn't exist!
  15. Oh, and Anne Frank's house is a must see!
  16. Tons of museums in Amsterdam - Van Gogh, Rijksmuseum, Rembrandt, too many to name! Beautiful city, very friendly people. We were not going to the red light district either, but all of a sudden we were just there! We were just walking down the street, turned the corner and found ourselves right in the middle of a busy night! Everyone speaks English and are eager to help you. We spent several days in Delft, also. Young people are beautiful, friendly, quiet! Everyone walks or rides bicycles everywhere. In Delft, there were a group of about 25 young people (teens), just talking and la
  17. Pick a place to stay and make reservations now! We came through there in October a couple of years ago and the hotels were all FULL! Finally found one room available, but they had doubled the prices at every hotel because of the Fall Leaves! It is beautiful country and I will go back, but not without a reservation.
  18. When we built our house in 1980, we did everything we could to waterproof the basement (poured concrete walls, the tar and plastic sealer, french drain, etc.) and had no problems until our 100 year flood a couple of years ago. We had a company come out (got several bids) and had estimates between $900 (for simple landscaping) and $9900 (the big guys). We had tried to do it ourselves, and spent about $2000 on stuff that didn't work. We had the big guys ($9900) come and do it right.
  19. I've made this recipe, and my DIL makes it frequently. Sometimes she uses other items instead of the spinach and asparagus, such as sun dried tomatoes and green peas, just whatever she has on hand. I personally don't care for nutmeg so I did not add it in. Baked Risotto with Spinach, Asparagus and Parmesan Ingredients * 1 tablespoon olive oil * 1 cup finely chopped onion * 1 cup uncooked Arborio rice * 8 cups spinach leaves (about 4 ounces) * 2 cups fat-free, less-sodium chicken broth * 1/4 teaspoon salt * 1/4 teaspoon ground nutmeg
  20. Just so you know, 'possums can climb anything. They climb my bird feeders all the time and eat the feeders - metal, plastic, whatever!
  21. Several years ago, a family from this area moved during the day while their young teen son was in school. When he got home, the house was vacant, locked up, and his 'things' were in a box on the lawn. How can people just throw away their kids?
  22. Just finished Jaycee Dugard's book, and The Help.
