  1. Three. 7 ft real tree in the living room downstairs, and 2 fake ones upstairs - one in the loft (my "beach" tree) and one in the window seat in the front bedroom, with all the ornaments I had when I was too poor to afford any decent ones. The ficus tree in the living room has lights on it year round. Why do I do all this? Well, because I can
  2. Ever tried Rosebud Salve? I get mine at Sephora in JC Penney. I use it or Carmex during the day. At night, I don't know how I ever lived without Neosporin Lip Health. When you find something that works let us know!
  3. Well, knowing about that, and what's going on in the world at any given time, requires actually PAYING ATTENTION and WANTING to know what is going on and WATCHING or READING the news. Unfortunately, finding students of ANY age who CARE to do any of this is pretty much impossible. So, as much as I think said behavior was wholly inappropriate (as is your "student wearing a blue dress" comment, to be honest), you're going to have to find someone else to blame this on. Like the parents. Or, heaven forbid, the students themselves who chose to behave this way.
  4. Did you see Ingram & Saban chest bump? Loved it! Something's wrong with Ingram, though. Looked like he fell off the podium...announcers said something about him cramping up. The mascot was trying to help him up..
  5. it goes up the day after Thanksgiving (NEVER before!)...and does not come down until January 6. It's the Epiphany, when the Wise Men came. If the star on the top of my tree isn't up to guide them, how will they know where to go??? January 6 is also the 12th day of Christmas I also have the manger scene up, but the Baby isn't put out until Christmas...
  6. I have a sign in the window of my classroom that says "please snow, I'm a teacher". Maybe I should paint in "on the weekend" after the please snow part...since it seems like every time it snows, it's on a weekend,,,,and I want a snow day, dangit!
  7. It allows for the prosecution of Ugandans who engage in homosexual acts in foreign countries...SO, if a Ugandan citizen goes to any country in which it is not illegal to be gay, and exercises freedoms under the law of the country in which he/she visits, he/she can be imprisoned upon returning home. Basically, the Ugandan government no longer respects the sovereignty & legal structure of other nations. There is nothing to stop the Ugandan parliament, or the legislative body of any other nation, for that matter, from passing other laws of this type. The fact that people can be jailed fo
  8. no problems here. even better that it's my mom's birthday...and her 13th birthday was on a Friday the 13th..
  9. yep. got the guy in one of the stalls in the market to teach him how to do it, he was so proud of himself...
  10. well...sort of...the guy I dated for 7 years gave me pearls for Christmas one year (the only year he was here around the holidays). He bought each of the pearls on the strand when he was in Saudi Arabia on an RAF detachment, then strung them himself. Did a pretty good job of it, too. Anyway, he didn't have a jewelry pouch to keep the pearls in, so he wrapped them in a sock. When he gave them to me, at first I couldn't figure out why he was handing me a sock...once I realized what was in it, the first thing I said was "you know you're not getting your sock back". That was 5 years ago, the pea

  15. Can't tell you how many arguments I've had with kids about the pants. I'm afraid some of our colleagues have adopted the "whatever" attitude when it comes to the pants thing. Believe it or not, things are much better than under the previous administration, the kids keep talking about how they "never had to follow the stupid rules before"
