  1. Check the GA Dept. of Driver Services website for a list of locations. If you got a renewal notice in the mail, AND your renewal date is a month or more away, you can renew online. Just follow the instructions in the letter.
  2. Has he been approved for the transplant? Just be aware that, unless he has a living donor, he could wait a long time for a cadaver donor, so don't feel as if everything you think has to be 'ready' has to be ready *tomorrow*. As for assistance, I hope the hospital has made you aware of the resources for potential transplant recipients. If they haven't mentioned them already, go to the websites for Lifelink of Georgia and the Georgia Transplant Foundation - GTF, particularly, offers practical as well as emotional help for those who are awaiting a transplant and who have received one. They
  3. I have better luck with candles if I buy them 'fresh.' I buy soy candles that have been triple-scented - they really 'throw' a lot of scent - and I buy them from someone local, if I can. I've never tried them, but there's a candle place in Hiram near PAK in Pink - Dixie Delights or something like that. I bought my last candles on Etsy from a lady in Douglasville.
  4. That leads to another comment: when will baby clothes manufacturers get a clue and start sizing clothes based on WEIGHT and not AGE?! As for the car seat, I think I'd bag it rather than just put it on the curb - there *are* people out there who would clean it up and use it, even if you had written 'expired' all over it.
  5. I'm right there with ya - I had no idea they had a 'best by' date.
  6. A slightly OT question: where did you get your vinyl? I'd like to see what colors are available. Thanks!
  7. In today's AJC online, there were two stories about teen-involved auto accidents, both of which resulted in a fatality. An 18-year-old ran a stop sign in Fayette County, killing a man in the SUV the teen hit broadside. And in the more-publicized accident, the 17-year-old driver whose car struck that of Roy Barnes' daughter has died of his injuries. While no parent can guarantee the behavior of his/her teenager when that teen is out of sight, what have YOU done to try and impress upon your son or daughter that the driving task is serious business? Besides driver education, in what
  8. I love that photo of her and her dad, and the new photo is great, too. Snaggletoothed photos are some of the best!
  9. Heh - when I fell out during my stress test at the cardiologist's office, Puckett transported me ACROSS THE STREET to Wellstar Cobb. Cost? $675 *plus* mileage. Understand: they did a finger stick to check my blood sugar and gave me a tube of glucose. No IVs, no electronics, nothing else. Of all the bills and statements I got, that was the biggest shocker.
  10. Those stories are absolutely true. Back in the mid-80s, I worked at the driver's license office in Sandy Springs. At that time, the D/L office was at one end of the north Fulton County courthouse, and the tag office was at the other end. Tag season was the only time of year when their line was longer than ours, and boy, it was LONG! It was nothing for the tag line to wrap *around* the outside of the building at least once and sometimes more. People would park on the shoulder and *in the median (turnlane)* of Roswell Road - you can imagine how safe *that* was! We had to keep our course ch
  11. I would say make your decision based on your *artistic* interest. If I were studying Western art, despite it being the obvious choice, I would go to Montepulciano - in Italy, you're going to be hip-deep in opportunities to see and study countless, magnificent artworks. And Paris and London are just a rail trip away. Another advantage to Europe: you'd be less likely to need fluency in the native language. OTOH, if your interests are more in Eastern art, look more closely at the Asian countries. You'll need more familiarity with the native language, and you'd need to be more cautious in
  12. LOL - it is so funny to me what people will gripe over. 35 dollars A YEAR is a dealbreaker? Sheesh. If it were $35 a month, I could see the beef, but if you were paying already for a prestige plate, $35 wasn't going to take food off your table or clothes off your back. My husband (who also has a birthday very soon) is keeping his Alabama tag and I'll *definitely* be keeping my beloved vanity plate next year. We don't mind keeping the state afloat for the rest of you peeps.
  13. Yep. I used to frequent that one and the one in Buckhead. Ah, those were the days - their salsa is to die for!
  14. Agree with everyone re. more Mexican. HUH?! The *only* exception to that would be Rio Bravo - I LOVED that place. I go to the Chevy's website about once a year and beg them to come back to the Atlanta market. Olive Garden wouldn't do me any good - their food is pretty tasty, but it doesn't agree with me at all. IMO, Italian Oven is much better. Red Lobster would be OK, but they're a little pricy for a regular meal out.
  15. Well, you never tasted my grandmother's cakes. Her pound cake was worth fighting for and her caramel cake was heaven on a plate. I think that was one reason I was so disappointed when I tried the cake from Gabriel's - I really hoped that it would be like homemade. As it is, every grocery store cake I've ever eaten was better than that.
  16. Well, there are people who like her cakes, but the iced layer cake I bought there a couple of years ago was a *huge* disappointment after all the build-up I had read about how wonderful they were.
  17. Gabriel's on Whitlock Avenue is allegedly owned and operated by one of Paula Deen's cousins. Had an excellent pimento cheese sandwich there once. OTOH, the cake I bought there was *terrible*.
  18. Off-topic, I'd like to respond to this. Chrissey, PLEASE make the effort and take the time to READ TO YOUR CHILD. If you have to pretend, *pretend* that you love to read and teach your daughter to love books and reading. Books are friends when you're lonely, entertainment when you're bored, and escapes when real life is a little too real. I promise, it will be one of the best gifts she ever receives and one she can cherish for a lifetime.
  19. I used to know what 'mark twain' meant, but I've forgotten. I know it's a term used by steamboat captains for navigating a river - has something to do with the depth of the water, I think. Did you see the Ken Burns documentary about Mark Twain? GPB just re-ran it a few weeks ago.
  20. I had a bout of sciatica many years ago. Overdid some yardwork and woke the next morning with agonizing pain. It felt as if someone was stabbing me in the rump with a stiletto, sending pain down the back of my leg. My family has never used chiropractors, so I saw our GP, who prescribed a heavy-duty muscle relaxer and told me to stay in bed a few days. Thankfully, it worked. I *am* seeing a chiropractor right now for a pinched nerve in my neck and shoulder. Everyone and every condition is different, of course, but I have only experienced slight improvement. Don't expect a miracle. I
  21. I'm sorry - I agree with the basic premise, but this was just TOO funny to ignore!
  22. If The Bookworm doesn't have a copy, you could almost certainly find a copy on Half.com. I liked 'The Prince and the Pauper,' but then I like Mark Twain's work.
  23. I beg your pardon - I certainly didn't intend to take a 'me vs. you' tone. You wrote 'my child's car' in your original post, and I responded in kind to indicate what my course of action would be in the situation under discussion. As for the rest of this thread ... I am disappointed to see how many of you are ready to criticize the OP for her actions. How many times have we seen a thread on here that started, 'If you know a blonde/redheaded/dark-haired teenaged boy/girl who drives a [insert car make, model & color], I saw him/her driving like a bat out of hell on [insert street name]
  24. Anyone old enough to drive is not a 'child,' so be warned: if your son/daughter does something while driving that I feel merits a chewing-out, and I have the opportunity to chew on 'em, I WILL. 'Momma Bear' mode has NOTHING on 'What-the-hell-were-you-thinking-you-could-have-KILLED-somebody' mode.
