U.S. Committment to clean cooking stoves in developing countries
onekidmom replied to onekidmom's topic in RECENT TOPICS
Pubby: I don't take it as being critical of me. I'm very open minded and do listen to and take in others opinions. You make excellent points. My problem - there are many "good" charities worldwide that do enormous good in developing countries. I choose to donate to charities after much research on their effectiveness. Historically, research shows that government programs are not as beneficial as charities simply due to waste/bureaucracy involved in government spending. There are others addressing this issue also (air quality/cookstoves/deforestation) in these countries - I've looked -
Read where Julia Roberts had joined Hilary Clinton in this effort My link Wanted to see what it was & how much USA was in for - found this: My link While my friends and I are cutting our budgets to the no frills max - I keep reading/hearing that our outreach/foreign aid amounts to next to nothing. Wonder how it would affect our national deficit if we stopped doing things like this? Wonder how many of these are actually out there?

Best post I've read!

My link Since mine in heading to high school next year, I've been educating myself on college placement, high school requirements, etc. Found this article interesting. Of course, I was "thrilled" (dripping sarcasm) when I found the changes to HOPE that take place 5/1/2015. Of course, mine will graduate at the end of May that year. Thank heavens we've saved for college since he was a baby!

Hi all.....I've been away for over 2 months (til this week). This morning, I dropped my dogs off to be groomed. I won't say where. I'm looking for a job, so I immediately noticed the typed "Help Wanted" sign - nicely done in a pretty font. It read as follows: Name of Business Now EXCEPTING applications for a experienced dog bather. Full time up to 29 hours a week or part time. ACQUIRE within. I stood and read it twice before going in. I asked about the sign and said I "thought" there might be a couple of misspellings. The woman said, no, couldn't be, she'd used spel

Channel 2 news has a story that reminds me of pcom topic last week

Hate to argue with you, Pubby. This isn't a GOP furloughed people recent issue. I've tried to report fraud to Medicaid/Medicare/Peachcare several times in the past 10 years to no avail. This type of thing has been going on for a long time. I worked part time at a Winn Dixie when "stamps" were paper "dollar" sort of things. What I saw made me sick 20 years ago. -
I don't think Publix disposes of meds, but, they do take the containers to recycle.
-
I can ask my cousin, if you'd like. He lives in Marietta and has several chickens. He just bought 4 more biddies last weekend.
-
Absolutely precious!! I know you are so proud of him!!
-
I think all Publix stores accept them. They just held two "prescription take back" programs yesterday - one in Acworth, one in Kennesaw - where you can take your old/unused prescriptions for disposal so they don't end up in the water system (with us flushing down the toilet). They take the bottles at those events also....

I called on this.....it's door to door canvassing of existing customer base for a company. You would be in a van with others so you don't use your own vehicle and you're not alone....

The absolute most peaceful "theme" thing we've ever experienced. Unless you have an appointment scheduled to swim, you aren't allowed in - so there weren't many people there - quieter/relaxing. We went at Labor Day a couple of years ago.
-
Unless something has changed, Discovery Cove was just like sitting on a beach watching people take their swims with the dolphins and there is a "river" to float around and a bird sanctuary. We loved it, but, I have one child and he was much older. I'd plan to do something else also.

So, you shouldn't save for your own retirement? When you retire, the company should have saved enough for you to continue to live in the manner of which you have become accustomed?
-
This is not and never will be my view. I know there is fraud and I witness firsthand how the system can be manipulated. There is and will always be those that society will care for. The way we are going about doing it right now is broken and, if this so called "reform" - which is not addressing the actual costs of healthcare providers providing healthcare - goes on as planned - we are in a world of hurt.

Research/read/pour through Obamacare - then get back to me. Yes, it is better. You do realize that Obamacare isn't free? The insurance companies are "gearing up" for Obamacare. Take your premium, times 12 months, add your out of pocket. Then, find out how much insurance companies pay out - not just for you - you may be an extremely healthy person. Think of the ones the insurance companies will be getting less of a premium who may not be healthy that you will be paying for also. Obamacare does absolutely nothing to address the actual cost of care - only that insurance companies must cove

Most of my friends are seeing a 15 - 33% increase in rates along with changes to copays and/or prescription coverage. Many of my friends are being directed to FSA/HSA's (which is what we have). I know this because they're all calling me to ask about how to go about setting up HSA's or how they work. Because we're a small company, we have an HSA with a $5800 deductible before insurance pays one penny.

Thanks for making me tear up, DGITW. I think about this almost hourly these days - as I now look UP to him, as he discusses his options for high school beginning next year, as he asks if he can shave (I've told him I'll take him and have his little mustachio WAXED - lol), as he is experiencing his first "girlfriend". Did I hug enough, did I take enough time to listen then, did I play enough - I don't take one minute with him for granted but, have I, will I? I have a friend whose child has neuroblastoma and two friends who have lost their children in the past months - you bet I still kiss/hu

As a christian, I also believe in tolerance. If you research any religion, you will find violence. Including Buddhism - I have a book I picked up a year or so back when I was involved in a study to familiarize myself with Islam - Buddhist Warfare....anyway, no religion is violence free in their history. Kindness & understand & tolerance - yet, what goes around comes around? Things that make you go hmmmmm.... Dis is why I likes you

Wasn't a comparison - just saying that I personally think everyone deserves a second chance EXCEPT those people and that is just my opinion - porn is not a crime.
-
The article says she left on her own - she wasn't fired. I agree - everyone deserves a second chance (except murderers/child rapists/pedophiles - I'm not God and he's not through with me yet - so, no, I don't give these people second chances). In her case, she was much younger and more than likely was working her way up. She had bettered herself & risen above. Now, if she was my sons teacher - I wouldn't want him knowing about her past. Not because I'm a prude, but because it would change his perception of her and would be a distraction - not because he's perverted - but because he's

I hear ya! My husbands grandfather worked for a company in Mississippi for many years, then my father in law for 43 years and now, my husbands company has a contract with this company. The grandfather retired with a nice pension & lifetime healthcare for both he & my husbands grandmother (and, they'd saved/invested VERY well). Anyway, when my father in law retired, my mother in law expected the same. My father in law - having never worked for another company for 43 years - was WAY up in management. The company is struggling - badly - and he says much of it is due to the fact that
