  1. The amount you can contribute goes up & a couple of other things I'd have to go look up. I'll see if I can find that tomorrow.
  2. And, I actually resent the idea that I don't care about others situations. I try to help everyone - I try to help people find what works best for them including finding government programs/charities as a hand up from hard times. It's like with the Georgia Goal scholarship program for sending kids from public to private schools - my child cannot benefit from that program, but, since we pay taxes to the state every year, we get a say as to how our money is used so that parents can make their own choice as to what type of education works for their child. I am NOT a me me me person. But, I am s
  3. Maybe this helps explain a little better on the logistics: The Health Savings Account deduction is reported on your personal income tax returns on Form 8889 which carries to line 25 of the 1040. The maximum contribution for 2010 was a little over $6000 for families with both spouses under the age of 55. As long as you qualified for the HSA - basically you have a high deductible insurance plan, defined as minimum annual deductible for family of $2,300 and maximum annual deductible PLUS out of pocket expenses of $11,600 - there is no requirement to spend the full amount in any given y
  4. LPPT - we have friends with an HSA - he has cancer - he's been at MD Anderson most of last year. After deductible - his bills have been paid at 100%. I consider EVERYONE's situation - I do. I handle my parents medicare/aarp (along with other things), my inlaws medicare & as of December, my elderly aunts & her grandchildren's insurance. The thing with HSA's is they are geared more towards catastrophic care than every day care -hence, the high deductible. However, even though you have not met your deductible - you are receiving the "negotiated rate" from your health providers. In t
  5. I look at it this way.....it was either more than $1000 per month - actually, I think it was $1150 at the time (4 years ago) heaven knows what it would be now, with a $1000 deductible and then 80/20 coverage & varying copays, so, I was looking at a minimum of $13,000 per year and that was if we didn't hit the deductible or pay many copays. My husband is on 3 "maintenance" prescriptions & I am on 1. This way, we pay $3600 per year in premiums, $5800 deductible and then everything is paid at 100%. So, my max out of pocket is is less than $10,000. I'm saving money with a $5800 deducti
  6. My husband is self employed....this is the only way we can have health insurance affordably. It is NOT through our "company". We have a $5800 deductible. It's much cheaper than the alternative. I'm hoping people wake up and realize what amounts are actually being paid out & look at real issues instead of just blindly thinking insurance companies & coverage is the problem/solution. It's not. Oh, these aren't just for the young. I'm 49. For many - if you look at the reduction in premiums and the fact that you're covered at 100% after your deductible AND you can choose your own
  7. My link Hopefully, for us, these plans will stick around as it's been a savior for us and there was talk that they would go away. Just FYI for others thinking about insurance. Instead of paying an insurance company for care they may or may not use, employees can sock away tax-free money in a health savings account to pay for future medical expenses, said Troy Bond, the hospital’s chief human resources officer. “We’re just giving thousands of dollars away to insurance companies.” Sweeten, 45, said she paid a $260 premium every two weeks for herself and 18-year-old daughter under he
  8. The Cobb libraries have stacks and stacks...not sure about Paulding.
  9. My link Paulding sheriff's Cpl. Brandon Gurley said that a Jan. 4 search of Allan John Chase's home in Dallas led to the discovery and arrest.
  10. My link In the note to parents, the district set out several rules allowing students to wear kirpans: • Any kirpan worn at school should be sewn inside a sheath in such a way that the blade cannot be removed from the sheath. • The blade of the kirpan is restricted to no more than 2 1/4 inches. This would take the object outside the scope of the Revised School Code's definition of a knife constituting a dangerous weapon. • The blade of the kirpan must be dull. • The kirpan should not be worn on the outside of the clothing and should not be visible in any way.
  11. So....how do y'all feel about my post in another thread where Kaiser did a study on insured women who would not get their mammograms? What happens when these women are diagnosed with cancer and it's in the latter stages? Do you think having insurance resolves all healthcare problems? My link
  12. A friend has been looking for a place to rent for a while now - if you find something in that price range, I'd be very surprised if A) it's actually livable/tolerable and b it's not so far out that you spend a ton of time/money driving. I'd recommend sitting on that phone until you can get through to the bank or working with the agent above that may be able to help you.
  13. No....here's a good explanation My link When I owned a small condo, my neighbor worked for the county. When she married, instead of selling the condo or renting it as a standard rental, she contacted the government and made it "section 8" - her reasoning - regular renters fall behind in rent & it's difficult to evict, whereas, with section 8, she was guaranteed a steady income. However, after many police visits & much damage from 3 different renters - she decided to stop. Took forever to "remove" the status from her property. Several of us sold during this time.
  14. My link The study, conducted among 340 women aged 50 to 69 insured by Kaiser Permanente, is revealing because skipping cancer screening is typically associated with not having insurance. In this study, however, all of the women were insured. Addressing the issue of obese women skipping mammograms has a special sense of urgency, according to the study: "Given the obesity epidemic, the higher incidence and mortality from breast cancer among the obese, and the need for patients to participate in regular screening to achieve desired reductions in mortality, obesity is an exceedingly common
  15. I think I must idolize you.....you get it....it's not a "left wing" - "right wing" thing.
  16. We've bought and sold at CD Warehouse on Barrett Parkway.
  17. Had just dropped my "Per Therm" rate two weeks before the storm.......Wasn't as bad as I'd expected. Oh, we're with Gas South.
  18. I agree.....However, I sat and read and color coded and really delved into the healthcare law - even had two paralegal friends doing it with me - I learned a lot. And, much of that bill was crap. We do need an overhaul - we need to address the ACTUAL COSTS issue. Why can you have an MRI at a stand alone imaging center for $900 including the reading of the report, but, go to the hospital across the street to have the same test and it be $2500 and their still be additional costs? Why is a mammogram anywhere from $90 - $450? Giving everyone insurance doesn't resolve these issues. Peopl
  19. Call the stand alone imaging centers - they are MUCH, MUCH, MUCH cheaper than having it done at the hospital. I've had to have a CT scan w/dye, 2 MRI's and a HIDA scan over the last few months. You need to know exactly what test you are needing and they will give you a quote. I really like the people at Marietta Imaging. There are other centers around also. The imaging center was 1/3 of the cost of the hospital - and they include everything where at the hospital, you'll receive bills from the radiologist, the lab, etc.
  20. DANG! She's GOOD! Very mature for 10! :clapping:
  21. OK.....I may just be stupid....I mean, I have a teen....but, stealing someones PANTS? Really? Good Heavens! Sorry for your daughters loss. Says alot about how kids are being raised these days. Gotta wonder if some mom is out there washing your kids pants thinking they're her friends or something.

  23. My link I can understand suing for reimbursement of out of pocket expenses - but $150,000?? The wrap was "unwholesome and unfit for human consumption, in that it was represented to contain pitted olives, yet unknown to plaintiff contained an unpitted olive."
