White Oak or Mt. Tabor Park are nice - for spring all you really need is green grass and some flowers.

If People Treat You With Insensitivity, That's Not OK
LisaC replied to Eddie Bennett's topic in RECENT TOPICS
I think it depends on the situation. In general, I'm nice, polite and appreciative and am very fortunate to work for people who behave in the same manner. However, when I have to ask someone repeatedly to do something, I'm get to the point where I'm not so nice and can be quiet demanding. -
I don't think I'm as nice as you are. I typically don't let the doctor leave the room until all of my questions are answered. Pediatrician laughed this morning when I pulled out my list and asked me if I stayed up late last night preparing it. Doctors have bad days and get distracted just like the rest of us - call his office and talk to the office manager or his nurse. If you still don't feel comfortable, find a new doctor. You don't have grounds for a formal complaint or malpractice claim - he didn't do anything wrong, he just didn't talk about what you wanted him to talk about.
-
Did you husband ask the doctor about his spleen issues? If the doctor didn't have the file or the bloodwork results, he probably had no idea why your husband was there in the first place. Sounds more like someone else dropped the ball and the doctor was just going with the information he had available. On the other hand, I spent 2 1/2 hours at my 4 year old's annual checkup. Her pediatrician probably spent close to 45 minutes with us because I had lots of questions written down to talk to her about.

I work in the building where Oceannaire is located and I HIGHLY recommend it - their seafood is nothing short of awesome. Also in midtown, South City Kitchen is good if you want more traditional southern food, Nan has awesome Thai food (so does Tamarind Seed), Front Page News is terrible these days - food is never cooked the way you request and the service stinks, Piola is new and has a great thin crust pizza, and Vini Vidi Vici is always a great Italian spot. Rathbun's has awesome food, but you usually have to wait (even with a reservation these days). Pasta de Pulcinella is also really go

I'm confused -- you're applauding violence that happens to Christians, but you believe in "only kindness and understanding"??? Maybe Buddists have an "except for Christians" clause. As for the teacher, I wonder if there are morality clauses in teaching contracts that address this kind of behavior? I'm guessing that if she "voluntarily resigned," she was probably encouraged to go by the school system (and most likely with a severance package).

I love it!! I really wish something would be done about the drivers speeding through there - when we were there Saturday night, a car came buzzing through there and nearly hit a woman and her child and never slowed down.

I see what you're saying, but the lottery funded pre-k program has no income requirements, anyone can participate. The Head Start program for many years has served those lower income families that can't afford preschool. There is also a government program out there to help low income families get discount daycare (at least it was out there a few years ago). People have learned to rely on that program and don't have a backup plan so they're justifiably upset. I'm only speaking for me here (and not judging anyone else's choices), but my child will get the best education possible. My DH a

Remember the days when we had to work to pay for daycare AND for a college education....

You know, this could be solved simply - the school should NEVER, not even with a court order, be allowed to leave a child alone with another adult (not even law enforcement). It's in the best interests of the school administration to simply tell the LEO that they cannot allow anyone to meet privately with the child without the presence of a school admin or a parent. It protects the school system and it gives the child an adult that they know to watch out for them.

lol - I've worked as a legal secretary in a law firm for 22 years. I have a college degree, but didn't go to law school. I can state emphatically that there are several paralegals and secretaries in our firm that could do an attorney's job better than most current law school graduates. And, in fact, in most general practice, bankruptcy and immigration law firms, the paralegals do all of the work preparing the documents. The only things they don't do is the initial meeting with the client, appearing in court hearings and signing pleadings. I stand behind my comment - they know A LOT mor

Does employer have right to require your Facebook password?
LisaC replied to zoocrew's topic in RECENT TOPICS
True, but keep in mind what GW said and remember that if you access FB or any other website while you are on a work computer, your employer can access that information - WITHOUT your consent. They also have the ability to see what you posted, what you sent from your personal email, etc. -
I beg to differ - I know several paralegals that have done for this so long that they know a lot more than the attorneys. The difference is that they are NOT LICENSED to do it, that's the illegal part. Hiring an attorney is always the best advice if you have questions, need guidance or are facing an adversarial situation, but in a situation where the forms are available for free and it's some as simple as filling in some blanks and getting the documents notarized, you can do that yourself and save some money.

Does employer have right to require your Facebook password?
LisaC replied to zoocrew's topic in RECENT TOPICS
Here's something to chew on. What if you apply for a job that might occasionally require you to lift a heavy box? You give the prospective employer your FB password because "you have nothing to hide." They check out your FB account and see that about 8 months ago, you posted that you had a car accident and had injured your back. The HR Manager at the prospective employer sees that post and decides not to hire you because he thinks you might have a bigger issue with your back and he doesn't want to deal with that. So, you don't get the job... Do you see a problem here? OR, you give th -
Why Bust One Union, And Let All The Others Fly?
LisaC replied to Eddie Bennett's topic in RECENT TOPICS
Paid picketers is nothing new - whenever there is highrise construction in midtown Atlanta, you see them out picketing. The funny thing to watch is that these picketers usually aren't even members of the union - just people paid to walk a picket line (and you also see the real union members walking right past them to get on the job site). -
Also, if Jeanne isn't an option for your friend (since she's in South GA), the Family Law Division of the Fulton County Superior Court has a divorce packet online, including some FAQs that will answer most questions. She can retype the forms for the county in which she lives and file them.
-
Her best bet is to see if she can get samples from the Superior Court clerk in the county where she is going to reside. She can then retype the forms and just pay the filing fee. Doing it online usually doesn't get her legal representation or legal advice - she's simply paying a third party to type the papers for her.

Why Bust One Union, And Let All The Others Fly?
LisaC replied to Eddie Bennett's topic in RECENT TOPICS
Which is what happens when the government has too much control over the lives of its citizens..... If we don't stop allowing our government to continue to control every aspect of our lives, we will be in the same boat and will have no one to blame but ourselves. -
As a person with control freak tendencies, perhaps you are a control freak? You like to give them your opinion, you get a little upset when they don't do what they tell you, and you like to tell them "I told you so" or "if you had only done it my way." You may have nothing but the best of intentions, but sometimes, you just have to mind your own business, let them make their own mistakes and just give them a shoulder to cry on and listen to them. Now, go do what I told you and don't second guess me!!

Why Bust One Union, And Let All The Others Fly?

TP - Seriously? Is everything wrong in this world the fault of corporate America? You're a relatively smart guy (for a democrat) - we are society of "have to haves" - we all "have to have" the newest, greatest thing on the market, regardless of whether we can afford it or not. OUR spending as a country got us into this economic crisis. I'm walking away from this one, you don't want to discuss unions - you want to continue to blame someone else for your problems.... I wish you well, my friend, but sometimes you just have to know when to move on.... -

It's not just on the teachers. Companies would love to get rid of the Teamsters, the SteelWorkers, the Pilots Union, etc. -

It's not just the teacher's union, I tend to think that most unions are bad. Perhaps they started out with good intentions many years ago, but my legal experience with several of them leads me to believe that they are out to make as much money as possible for their leadership while protecting the lazy and incompetent. Just my two cents....
