My parents each had their SS checks going straight into their checking accounts. When my Dad died in 2009 they stopped his checks immediately. They even came back into his checking account and removed a prorated portion. When my Mom died a few months later, they stopped hers too. You'll probably just get paid a contract rate. You should ask them when you should expect you paycheck. It probably won't have any taxes withheld so you'll have to take care of that yourself. The hourly rate between an employee and a 1099 contractor should be drastically different, because of the taxes a 1099'er has to pay.
