  1. I think you can get the mildew off by sprinkling it with cornstarch, let it sit for a few days, then dust off the cornstarch. Worth a try, then put it in a shadow box.
  2. Teaching anything to a group of little ones is like trying to organize a bunch of earthworms! Thanks to all who have coached, are coaching, or will someday coach! You are all great!!
  3. Arlington. It takes about 6 months to get 'clearance' for a visit to the White House.
  4. All my family likes boiled peanuts - except me! I've tried, but just not my taste. And, I thought you were supposed to use green peanuts (meaning, not ripe yet) for boiling. Anyone know?
  5. Great work. Lincoln Stone used to do stained glass, too. A man of many talents.
  6. I'm sure you'll have lots of stories from Disney. I hope you all have a great time!
  7. LGM, you ARE the entertainment! How about a few HR stories? Is she playing football this year?
  8. We paid school taxes for 12 years after our youngest graduated.
  9. In Cobb County, the school taxes were dropped when hubby turned 62. He did have to apply for this. His sister lives in Montgomery, AL and their property taxes are very low, but they have a 10 percent sales tax on everything, so they still get ya.
  10. Gallbladder can make you hurt almost anywhere. Between the shoulder blades is common - I hurt right at the top of my stomach where the rib cage divides. Nowadays the surgery is pretty easy and recovery is quick. Good luck.
  11. Internet says 1 1/4 tsp. baking powder and 1/8 tsp. salt per cup of flour.
  12. Peanut Butter Squares 1/2 cup peanut butter 1/2 cup margarine 1 1/2 cups sugar 2 eggs 1 tsp. vanilla 1 cup self-rising flour Melt peanut butter and margarine in microwave. Add to rest of ingredients and stir until blended. Pour into greased and floured (or use Baker's Joy) 9x13 pan. Bake at 350 for 25-30 minutes. These will be chewy like brownies and have been a family favorite of ours for more than 30 years. Enjoy!
  13. Fruit Cobbler 1 Cup Flour (self-rising) 1 Cup Sugar 1 Cup Milk 1 stick margarine 1 large can fruit (peaches, berries, cherries, or mix them) Use 2 small cans if you don't have a large can. Turn oven on to 350 degrees. Melt 1 stick margarine in 8x12 or 9x13 dish in oven. While margarine is melting, mix flour, sugar, milk together. Pour this mix over melted margarine. Pour in canned fruit. Do not stir. The crust will rise to the top while cooking. Bake at 350 until crust is browned, about 30 to 40 minutes. Very good and very easy!
  14. From Dallas, take Hwy 120 toward Marietta. Turn right on John Ward Road (right past Cheatham Hill Cemetery), then 1st left onto Cheatham Hill Road. You will cross Powder Springs Road and will be on Calloway Road. Fair will be on the left.
  15. "You are my sunshine, my only sunshine, you make me happy when skies are grape..."
  16. Purified water is not the same as distilled water. Purified water still has minerals in it, some of which would have been added back in to give the water its taste. Distilled water has all the minerals, etc. removed - that's why your steam iron probably has a recommendation to use distilled water in it - to keep the sediment from regular water from settling and coming out in the steam as a brownish color on your favorite white blouse.
  17. I prefer water that is bottled in North GA, Blue Ridge Mountain area. Check the label for the water source. It's the trace minerals in the water that give the water its taste. Some springs are located in areas where there is more sulphur, sodium, other minerals, etc. which affect the taste.
  18. We prefer 'spring' water to drink. Spring water has a lot of restrictions so it's good to know the source of the water. Also, spring water from different locations will taste differently. Actually, 'distilled' is probably the best because everything has been removed from the water, but it really has no taste at all because all the trace minerals have been removed. 'Purified' water is just tap water that has been run through some process (probably, reverse osmosis or charcoal filters, and has minerals added back for taste), and so is 'drinking water' which probably has even less done to
  19. All the signs were down when were in that area this afternoon.
  20. Your house can be perfect after your kids are grown and gone. Never feel guilty about time spent with your children because that 'perfect house' time comes way too soon. There is a saying, "Our house is clean enough to be healthy, and dirty enough to be happy."
