  1. is there many people left who hand wash their dishes now? My mother still washes dishes by hand. I only hand-wash items that can't go in the dishwasher. what about iron your own clothes? Rarely - most of the clothes I wear these days don't need ironing if I can snatch 'em out of the dryer fast enough. Hang your clothes outside on a clothes line? We don't have a clothesline - I'd love one, though. Nothing smells better than sheets and towels dried outdoors! How about ice trays instead of an ice maker? We have an icemaker, but don't really use much ice -
  2. People used to do that to me in the D/L office. I finally found a way to deal with it: I would ask them to have a seat, finish their conversation and return when they were done. Some people actually did that, and I would call another applicant to my window to keep things moving. *Usually*, though, people would get off the phone and conduct their business. On the flip side, though, there was a time in our office when we HAD to answer the phone within three rings or risk getting written up. We were also told to refrain from putting people on hold. I don't know why the Powers-That-Be dec
  3. Prior to computers in cars, LEOs *did* use their radios to obtain information like tag registrations and license info. I'll put it this way: that's the way the GSP got *their* info, because I've been in a few radio rooms in my time. Mrs. Apple, the computers may be necessary for a police officer's job these days, but I wish you would at least concede that typing on a computer while driving is a distraction from the driving task. That's the only point *I* was trying to make, anyway.
  4. Tag numbers can be run through the GCIC and NCIC, and wouldn't necessarily require an Internet connection in the way we think of it. They may be able to run license numbers the same way. Be that as it may, it's still a form of distracted driving, so the OP made a valid point.
  5. Did anyone notice how much the honey was? I was thinking of making medieval gingerbread and would like to use local, fresh honey.
  6. I think he decided not to spend any more time on P.com.
  7. Since I can't think of many things *easier* to make than Jello, I'm curious as to what you DO make.
  8. When we bought our HDTV last fall, I researched them on Consumer Reports and CNet - if you're going to spend that much money, I recommend you do the same. BTW, based on that research, we went with a Samsung plasma TV. =NO= regrets!
  9. Thanks for that info - it helps a lot! I'll probably have to either wait until the temps come down a little or go later in the evening.
  10. How was it tricky? Inadequate? Far away from the market? Something else? I'd like to check it out, but I don't want to get down there and flake out in the heat.
  11. If you could pay back the 5K pretty quickly, you could consider a cash advance through a credit card. Interest rates on those generally aren't the best, but it's an option. Have you approached any credit unions about the loan?
  12. Just one more reason to ALWAYS hire your own inspector, whether you're buying a resale home or a new one.
  13. I believe you need reservations for some of the nicer park restaurants - if you were planning to have a special lunch or dinner in the park for your son's birthday, you may want to check into that. I haven't been in years, but you should definitely listen to the water advice and break advice. If you're going to be there for several days, there's no point in rushing the experience. Take your time so that the trips to the park are relaxed, not frantic. Enjoy!
  14. The fact that the lunch is available to ANY child, with no requirement to prove financial need, is what bothers me and probably others. When school is in session, there are protocols in place that require parents to show that they fall below a certain income bracket so that their children can qualify for the free/reduced fee lunch program. Why should summer be any different?
  15. This is only going to get worse, I'm afraid. http://news.yahoo.com/s/ap/20100611/ap_on_re_us/us_arkansas_flooding
  16. We're all wasting time here when we should be writing our obituaries. Heck, by DGITW's standards, I could need mine any day now.
  17. I find it mildly entertaining that candidates would waste so many signs on the courthouse, anyway. How often does the average citizen go there? I've been there three times since it opened - once last year and twice this year - and don't anticipate having to go back until 2014, when I'll renew my notary commission and my handicapped parking permit.
  18. At risk of sounding ignorant, what is a 'clean install?' Would it preserve my personal files, photos, bookmarks, etc.?
  19. There are bound to be some lease/purchase homes in decent neighborhoods that would be just what you're looking for. Contact a real estate agent and ask him/her to look for you.
  20. Beatty Street is the little street that runs parallel to the railroad tracks, right? If so, where will shoppers be permitted to park?
  21. Why haven't you liked it? Design? Doesn't clean well? Noisy?
