  1. Not at all like those days. Banks do not fail as they did then. There are plenty of safe places to deposit one's money. It is more a matter of placing items in something that carries riosk or not.
  2. Hey, Professor, it is called "planning" time, but that is one hundred percent work time. They are grading papers, calling parents, attending meetings, preparing reports, covering other teachers' classes--you know, working, like the real world.
  3. I do not desire such asystem here, but no transportation system sustains itself. It is virtually impossible by definition. The government must pay for the airline industry; should we stop subsidizing airlines? They cover infrastructure expenditures by paying ninety percent of airport construction costs, then they staff it with FAA employees, such as air controllers. Then they bail out the airlines periodically (twice since 9-11, the last one was to the tune of $15 billion, which by itself is many times the Amtrak budget). A good percent of the start-up costs and later infrastructure improv

Wow, someone is paranoid here. The short answer is that they are not taking the time or expending resources to do so. You might be able to get away with it, especially if you went to a different cashier. But then you would have only four, instead of two. As others have pointed out, they are trying to prevent convenience stores from buying their stock and selling it, and these folks are likely interested in more than two or four cartons. The sign is there to discourage, more than anything else. The store has no time for anything else.

No, they don't. The sign is primarily to put people on notice. However, note that as a private business, there is no law that prevents them from limiting their quantities sold to a customer. It is not "regulation"; it is their right to right their business as they see fit.
  6. Until it becomes one, which is likely to happen to them within a year.
  7. Wow, do you think we have enough conflicting rumors yet? "I heard..."
  8. No, Cherokee starts two days before Paulding, and Haralson starts the day before. Bartow goes back the same day as Paulding; Douglas goes back the next day, and Cartersville City Schools two days later (on a Friday). Carroll: 8/10 Marietta City: 8/11 Cobb: 8/15 Polk: 8/24
  9. Window and door are painted with large white letters, THE SWEET LIFE. White banner below that in window says NOW OPEN.
  10. The second sentence contradicts the first. Sure they can. They cannot sell food that violates health laws, true, but the definition of bad is not limited to noncompliance with health foods. I've had lots of food that was legally compliant with the laws, but still tasted awful. How do you figure? I agree that perception is a huge part of the equation, but it's certainly not the only one. We have seen here that the brand names can differ from one store to another, so that is a significant factor right there.
  11. That must have been some time ago. It is hard to imagine those two procedures in this day and age NOT using up that deductible.
  12. Not sure of the location to which you refer, but there is an Aldi's on Floyd Road in Mabelton, across from a Publix shopping center. Definitely no upper-middle class subdivision there. Much of the area along Floyd Road near the Mable House (Landers and Barnes, and all the way to Fontaine), is old, run-down and what would be considered a lower-middle class area. That is why the city plans a major redevelopment in the area over the next few years. Floyd Road is to be widened and upgraded.
  13. It is located two doors to the right of the Dallas Theatre.
  14. "Rear-ending" is not the infraction for which one is cited. One gets a citation for whatever caused the collision, be it running a red light or some traffic control device, failure to stop, speeding, etc. Whatever the infraction is is what determines the fine.
  15. Two of the great all-time shows. He will be missed.
  16. Perhaps, but the spelling suggests these were not cut and pasted.
  17. These findings were actually published several months ago, and there was a thread here about it. Not really new now.
  18. Only Tuesday will be that hot--97 degrees.
  19. I'll give you three guesses why.
  20. I believe that the defendant was guilty, but I do not agree with much of the commentary that has been running here. There is nothing wrong with juries disagreeing, having multiple votes, and even arguing at times. That is precisely the way the system was designed to function. It is all about acts of persuasion. There have always been stronger and weaker personalities in juries. It has always been that way and always will be. In that regard, juries reflect everyday life. The entire premise of the play/movie Twelve Angry Men is precisely this. This is not anywhere near brainwashing, which is
  21. It is not so much the stores, but the manufacturers themselves, and they have been doing so for a while. Few make "no expiration date" coupons now, and the dates are usually within 30-60 days now, if even that; there are very few coupons that are gtood for the rest of the year. Also the items are more likely to be very specific. Rather than any General Mills cereal, the coupon is likely for Honey Nut Cheerios only. This way the companies appear to putting out the same quantity of coupons, but their use is very limited.
  22. Some states charge $40 apiece, regardless of how many one purchases.
  23. TEACHER: Yes. Read your essay, please! STUDENT: Uh, I don`t have it finished yet. TEACHER: Well then, read what you have, young man! STUDENT: Okay. The first day on my vacation, what I did on my summer vacation, the first day on my vacation, I woke up. Then, I went downtown to look for job. Then I hung out in front of the drugstore. The second day on my summer vacation, I woke up, then I went downtown to look for a job. Then I hung out in front of the drugstore. The third day on my summer vacation, I woke up... TEACHER: Now that`s fine, young man! STUDENT :
