Hardly. Threatenign someone with violence, especially with a gun, has ALWAYS been illegal in this country. Not sure why you would calling threatening someone with a gun, whether verbally, in writing, or via keyboard, as "expressing thoughts." The law has always been against threatening others with violence, especially firearms. Nothing new there.

Who is "policing Facebook"? The recipient of the written threat saw it, notified parents, who called police. How is it any different than a written note? Sorry, threats involving guns cannot be tolerated in any way, shape or form.

Agreed. While the perp might have been bullied, it could just as easily be the other way. Many seem to have opinions without knowing any of the particulars.

I had all four wisom teeth extracted at one time when I was 22. Pain was really not a problem. As others said, the soft diet was more of a pain. Lots of tunafish salad, oatmeal, pudding, yogurt, applesauce, soup.

OK, but for the life of me, I cannot fathom anyone using posts on this forum as a way to confirm or deny a rumor. This forum is about as reliable as any high school hallway, don'tchya think?
-
So, let me get this straight: You heard a rumor and "want to see what the facts are" so that you can "set this indvidual straight." In order to accomplish this, you repeat the rumor on p.com and hope someone will "verify" it. You will accept that online "verification" as "fact" and will "set this individual straight" on the basis of some p.com member's post?

That's pretty much what people say every year on the first day. -
Yes, but that is not Hurricane Colin; it is tropical depression four, and barely a depression at that. Big difference. http://www.nhc.noaa.gov/text/refresh/MIATCPAT4+shtml/021435.shtml

Discount theatres show movies that are not first run; they typically are weeks, if not months, after the film hit mainstream theatres. There are not many of these still around anywhere anymore, so I would not say that "they manage to survive just fine." Most do not have decent prices on concessions, and their portions are usually smaller. The theaters are older, which is also a factor.

Real Estate question regarding foreclosures on condos
Veritas replied to markmc137's topic in RECENT TOPICS
With the condo glut in FL, I would not think about buying one. -
I guess I was surprised that an HOA would issue a phone. May I ask for what purpose? I am familiar with HOA boards, property management, etc. I have never heard of an HOA issuing a phone. Typically licensed property managers, who do go around subdivisions a good deal, and often manage several different associations, are given a cell phone allowance for their own phone. But I have never heard of an HOA issuing a phone, especially not to a resident.

---Georgia is certainly not the only state to pass such laws. Eleven states, including Kentucky, Massachussetts and Illinois, have recently done so, while 19 others, such as California, ahve had them for some time. That means that a majority of states have such laws. It would be beneficial to look to the longer states for an idea as to how enforcement and challenges work. The police officer will issue a citation, as one person pointed out, and challenges would be a function of the court. Remember that traffic courts do not involve juries; the judge makes all determinations of guilt or inno

I read the other thread. It started off as an intelligent discussion, but then descended into the morass of insults and namecalling. I will disclose that I am in favor of the new law. Some observations on that and this discussion... ---Many people have stated that this will be a fruitless law, since it will not stop anybody from texting, if they wish to continue to do so. (Several people here have expressed their intention to continue to do so.) This is, of course true, but that makes it the same as any other law. It is against the law to murder, rape, assult, steal, as well as run red lig

Are you referring to the AJC's advertising flyer? There is a number on there that you can call to get them to stop throwin the trash into your driveway. I did, as did several of my neighbors, and they stopped coming. Publix accepts clear and light-colored plastic bags for recycling in the bins at the front of their stores. I used to think that it was only for Publix bags, but when I e-mailed the corporate headquarters, they said all light and transparent bags could be deposited there.

Agreed. This sample is not a typical one, because it is composed of p.com board members, who by definition are more interested than the average person in local events. A survey made randomly at a cross-section of workplaces, shopping centers, houses of worship, schools, etc. would likely produce a different result. If only one in four here would purchase a newspaper, the general public result will be even less, making such a commercial undertaking extremely risky. Sadly, with all of the information that is available these days, people seem less informed than ever about news, including nati

My apologies; I thought that I recalled something that a tour guide in Chattanooga told us. Evidently I was incorrect. I stand corrected. However, in response to the above, I believe that my batting average on p.com is still a pretty respectable one.

Only Hamilton County (Chattanooga) is on Eastern Time. All other counties are on Central Time, one hour behind us. That never changes at any time.

Nothing like a good twisting of words...

I heard nothing about this event and noticed that none of the national news outlets counted it among their top stories. An hour agao there was nothing about it on CNN.com. It is now mentioned on there as a minor story in passing. Even the latest on the gulf spill is that there is no longer a huge amount of oil at the surface and that marine micro-organisms have consumed a good deal of the oil, helping the clean-up. http://www.nytimes.com/2010/07/28/us/28spill.html http://news.yahoo.com/s/ynews_excl/ynews_excl_sc3270

No such claim was made here that there are no speed traps. More reading difficulties?

Sadly, the OP does not have the integrity to admit that she fell for a hoax, cut and pasted it, and then posted it for all to see. Her intentions may have been good, but she will apparently not own up to the fact that she spread misinformation, without bothering to first check its accuracy.
-
No, except for the first line, the remainder of the OP was the cut-and-pasted text from the hoax e-mail. The link to the AJC.com article provides part of the same text that the OP did. The entire text appeared in the hard-copy AJC a day or two before. The link to snopes.com also included examples of such claims that the item had been on the news. Hoax e-mails tend to include claims that the story appeared in the newspaper (page number included), or on various TV news outlets, but that is all part of the hoax because they assume that people will not actually go check it themselves--a sad st

I take it that your silence on the "she was repeating what she heard on the news" item indicates that you now realize that you had not read the OP and/or earlier parts of the discussion carefully, after all, despite your earlier protestations to the contrary. In response to your question, I direct you to the first paragraph in my earlier post (#58), reprinted below, this time in bullet form, for your convenience. The "big deal" is: ---There is NO such thing as Operation Blue Frog. ---GSP officers will NOT be on the alert any more than they ordinarily are. ---Unmarked cars will
