I am aligned with neither party line, so I will point out questionable statements from both sides: This is patently untrue. No labor department figure has come even close to this. This is precisely the argument used to justify sweatshops--in this country's past and many other countries' present. It is a position that causes grave abuses, especially for the uneducated and immigrants. True. It was raised in 2007, 2008 and 2009. (Two- or three-year steps are typical when minimum wage is increrased.) Prior to that the last increase was in 1996-97. It is too soon to revisit

Here is a recent report about the situation in Florida, which has had charter schools for some years now. http://www.miamiherald.com/2011/09/19/2541051/florida-charter-schools-big-money.html

This is ignorance in the extreme. The suggestion that one set of methodolgical results automatically works exactly the same with every population is absurd. It is the hope of someone who wants a complex matter to fit comfortably into their pre-set categories and niches. Even more alarming is the suggestion that teachers should conform to these dicta or be fired. (Now THAT is Big Brother at work.) Education is NOT a business, and I resent the consumeristic implication that are children are commodities to be bought, sold or traded in pursuit of a profit. They are our future, not some

It is interesting that folks who usually are greatly in favor of local control over education are ready to remove that local control and hand it over to an arm of the state, namely an anonymous committee appointed by the governor. It certainly is not, as one member put it, misleading to point out that the state board will be appointed, not elected. It is drawing attention to the lack of local control. With 184 school districts in the state, any mishandling of public monies will barely be a blip on the public relations radar for the governor, and not at all for his business buddies. This is

All true, with the note that most of the intersections noted have had cameras for some time now, stretching over the past two years or so. Nearly all of the traffic lights on the overhead cantilver arms at major intersections were built with the cameras included.

Choose which show you watched back in the 60's and 70's

At one point in the early sixties there were twenty-two different Western series on during the course of the week. These varied in quality, from very high production values to almost none at all. The why is because Westerns reflected the values of America at the time. Western television shows, films, comic books and novels had all been popular, beginning in the 1910s, just after the Western frontier had closed, and continued through the 1970s. Westerns were quintessentially American, as they represented the struggles of the American pioneers against nature, outlaws, and indians (I know, ve -
Then cash it at your own bank. WalMart performs a service, just like a check-cashing place. Don't know why that would "scare" anyone.

Of course that depends on which direction one is "coming through dowtown Dallas" from.

If you use Waste Industries for trash service...
Veritas replied to FreeBird's topic in RECENT TOPICS
Years ago, after Waste Industries bought Wade, they had the bins on the bottom of the truck for paper and plastic/aluminum. Frequently the drivers would simply empty the bins into the back of the truck. Due to this and other customer service-related reassons, WI lost many of their customers to Trash Taxi (new at the time) and other companies. Several years later (about 18 months ago), WI revamped their operations, became much more responsive to customer service issues and began offering a separate recycle can, which covers a huge range of recyclables, and the blue can is picked up by a separat -
I did it several (actualy it was seven) years ago. At the time, one had to have a forwarding address on file with the post office, which is why no documentation was needed. I suspect that part has not changed. I found out at the time that the DMV only received monthly updates from the USPS, so if one put in the change of address online too quickly, it came back saying that no change of address was on file. When I waited a month and did it again, it worked fine.

The OP in this thread is an example of why I think that posting scanner reports as they are heard is not always a good idea. Spreads unnecessary panic, in some cases. -

Former Paulding Co elementary teacher arrested
Veritas replied to knau7708's topic in Paulding County NEWS
The school is most assuredly not in Villa Rica, as it is located within Paulding County--no more than South Paulding High and Dugan Elementary are located in Douglasville, which is what their street addresses show. Similarly, at the other end of the county, many students who attend North Paulding High have an Acworth address, despite living in Paulding County. Some folks in the eastern section section of the county have a Powder Springs address, and I imagine that a few in the west probably have a Rockmart address, too. This reflects only where the post office is located that handles their -
The practice of an insurance company sending a letter to patients, informing them that their physicians may not longer be accepting their insurance, has become a common PR pressure tactic the last few years. Several years ago the same thing happened between Aetna and Wellstar to employees of a large insurance company (ironic) with offices in Atlanta. The goal is to have enough patients call Wellstar and complain, to force Wellstar to reconsider their position. Most of the time it works. This is similar to what cable companies do. They run streamers at the bottom of the screen, stating tha

The primary reason for police officers taking their vehicles home is because of the deterrance to crime in places where a police vehicle is located. Most communities like having them there for that reason.

Kudos to the young man for pursuing a worthy endeavor. The interview was less than stellar, IMHO. The interviewer needs work (certainly she was by no means impartial), especially in not asking leading questions that begin with "I assume..." The reality is that while we get a clue as to the young man's temperment and values (solid, it would seem), we really get no specifics as to what, as a candidate, he would hope to accomplish. We hear bits about nutrition education and the early identification of austism, and an apparent endorsement of school choice and charter schools, but very li
