It is true that what used to be called global warming is now called climate change, to emphasize that all weather extremes and dramatic shifts are now included. But it is to be noted that this is a fairly recent revision of both the lexicon and the varieties of weather included. In its earlier form, global warming was just that, warming. Beginning in the 1970s, the literature always stressed warming, and never associated cold weather or winter storms with carbon emissions. In fact, the "Artic Express" and "Siberian Express" extreme cold of the early and mid-1980s were said to be indicative of

"Bus farm"? That's a new one on me.

That may have been true many years ago, but not now. Both Waste Industries and American Disposal use different trucks, which bring the contents to different locations. The trash typically goes to the Paulding landfill, and the recyclables to centers in Douglasville and Marietta. In the early days of a small bin being attached to the bottom of a regular trash truck, this was a problem, as often the contents all ended up being mixed together. However, several years ago when these companies invested in new infrastructure, they purchased additional trucks, fuel, cans and personnel. Your commo

Call back, as they lowered our rate by a buck, as well. I was sorry to see this, but did have a half-full can every week, so now it is a full can every other week. (I do flatten boxes, stack cups and yougurt containers, etc.) However the OP is conflating two distinct issues, i.e., frequency and volume of service. Unless someone is putting less in the recycle can and transferring it to, say, the regular trash can, then the reply that they company is picking up the sane amount is an accurate statement. If a full recycling can contains Y amount of items, and a half-full one contains X amount

Used/Refurbed computers in Alpharetta (anyone remember this place?)
Veritas replied to greg30127's topic in RECENT TOPICS
There are already computer repair stores who also offer rebuilt systems in Dallas, New Hope and Hiram. Despite a slow economy, I think that people are leery about purchasing used machines in general, partially due to rapidly-changing technology--certainly to the point that I would not recommend that anyone try to run an entire business of it. -
Bridge on the River Kwai came out in 1957. It was my father's all-time favorite film, as it was WWII-related. Sunset Boulevard (1950) is one of my favorites, with William Holden and Gloria Swanson. It is one of the few times that Hollywood has ever looked at itself honestly, acknowledging that it chews people up and spits them out. It is very dated now, but it signaled a shift out of Hollywood's Golden Era of the thirties and forties, and into a more Silver Age fifties and sixties perspective. It was one of the early nails in the coffin of the studio system.

Old concept. Even MAD magazine was poking fun at it fifty years ago...

What Would Have Happened To This Teacher If He Had Intervened?
Veritas replied to Eddie Bennett's topic in RECENT TOPICS
If the teacher had been a woman, would she have been expected to intervene? -
Always beware of an advertisement that begins with these or similar words: "It is now widely accepted that..." It is called the bandwagon approach. It seeks to make something appear more widespread than it actually is.

Dr. Chastain is a good ENT in the Wellstar building next to the under-construction hospital on 278/120. Been going to him for several years.

If I may ask, when did Georgia Natural offer you .54? They are currently offering me .68.

With the cooler weather coming this way, did anyone recently get offered any good rates for natural gas heating?

Putting up a tree long before Christmas is a recent innovation. Trees used to be put up Christmas Eve and left up for the Twelve Days of Christmas, until the Epiphany on January sixth.

Where is that wording? http://blogs.ajc.com/jay-bookman-blog/2012/10/24/charter-school-amendment-would-set-off-gold-rush/

You would be completely wrong. First of all, as has been said here several times already, there is no teachers' union in this state. There is no collective bargaining for teachers under Georgia law, therefore there can be no teachers' union. You may be referring to GAE and PAGE, but both of those groups are merely professional associations. This is not just semantics; there is a huge difference between professional organizations and unions. It would be like calling a AA baseball team major league. Secondly, most teachers are absolutely not far-left liberals. Your suggestion that they are

But this isn't the "market" we are talking about here. These are our children. They are not widgets, and a business model should not be employed when making decisions about their education. Commercialism, mercantilism and consumerism are not how our schools should be run. Hardly. All it takes is one principal with a vendetta, or who one is being pressured by an influential parent, or one who is being pressured by a board member to hire a relative, etc.--the list goes on and on--and a teacher would be gone. That is the reason for the job protection, to prevent these otherwise-very-easy-to

That may be true in universities, but it is hardly the case in k-12 education. Teachers are the proverbial middle class, usually the picture of the middle of the road.

1) Um, no. As another member noted, the social reform movement dates to the turn of the century, because sweatshop owners were abusing the people that worked for them. By the time of the depression, sweatshops had long been outlawed. It shocks me that someone today would even imply that sweatshops could be considered justified, even in difficult economic times. 2) Who said anything about illegal immigrants? I was referring to those who came here legally. Sweatshops abused them, too, just as overseas sweatshops today abuse their employees. 3) Again, you are implying that in a poor economy, w
