  1. Other than a very small portion of 92 (I think--but the speed limit there is 45 and 50, never 55), none of these roads are within the school's boundaries.
  2. Get it replaced. Not only will the crack grow larger, but if the car is tapped the wrong way or hit lightly, it can shatter. Too dangerous to take a chance.
  3. Other than Highway 61, what other roads in the area have a 55MPH speed limit?
  4. I hate the links that are now embedded by this website in members' posts. Yecch!
  5. When I saw the title of this thread, I was sure that it was written by a teacher whose open house did not go well.
  6. Not much interest in used DVDs...
  7. Not sure why it is important to the OP to solicit other people's opinions on this. Whether it is validation or confrontation, one can see that nothing good will come of this thread. It is quite predictable what one will read here, and the OP should already know that. Given that reality, asking what others think serves no useful purpose in this case.
  8. Agreed, this is yet another case of media spin. And it apparently works, as we see in the fact that the OP saw fit to call the Princess' partial remark "hateful" and Princess Anne herself "mean." *...sigh...*
  9. Agreed. And I find it interesting how the worship of athletes and entertainers here is justified on their "merits." BTW, what has Paris Hilton done to merit the attention she gets? Or various members of the Kennedy and Bush families who were never elected to public office? Or reality stars, as mentioned above. Arrogant claptrap. I also agree that it makes for a nice diversion from Casey Anthony, Jodi Arias, George Zimmerman, blah blah blah...

  11. Not at all. The reality is that proper grammar and spelling are necessary for this world, whereas cursive is not.
  12. Schools are not going to take the considerable time necessary to teach children to write cursive, because they may or may not read their grandma's personal letters from the attic. Beside that, reading cursive is a much easier skill than writing it. That can be taught to oneself fairly quickly.
  13. Of course they will, but not from the original cursive documents. I am sure that practically everyone here studied the Declaration of Independence and the Constitution from reading printed copies in books, not cursive reproductions. Sure, we saw those replicas a couple of times (usually noting the "funny way" in which some of their cursive letters looked), but our studies of the contents of the documents was always from printed versions. Certainly this was true from at least the end of World War II, if not earlier.
  14. Um, no...the standards themselves do not list cursive as a required learning objective. Standard ELACC4L2 listed above is the objective. The g and h that you have quoted immediately above it are not part of the standard itself, but come from a supplement issued by the state Department of Education. This supplement includes a list of tasks that exemplify some of the objectives. In other words, to assist districts and schools in interpreting what types of activities in the classroom the standard can include, examples are given. Thus, cursive can certainly be taught, and when it is, it falls unde
  15. Cursive handwriting has been gradually deemphasized over the past 15+ years and was discarded with the new standards. This is not something that the schools did in isolation; it was done because it reflected the discarding of cursive writing by society at large.
  16. Though it has been eight years since I used them, I used A Amazing Elite Movers for two small moves and they were great both times.
  17. I have always had nothing but great experiences at that Ruby Tuesday, and I am fairly picky about service. Ummmm, let's see... Because you don't have the time? Because you are tired? Because you want to relax with family or friends? Because it is a special occasion? Because you like the atmosphere? The list of reasons for dining out is endless.
  18. Wouldn't you ask for an explanation? See the manager? Get more information?
  19. We don't really know that a Publix is going in at 278 & 61, do we? All we knows is that someone said so here. No real confirmation has been made, right? It does seem hard to believe at that specific location, for reasons already stated here.
  20. But it is not the same "up here." Here (and in Florida) Publix is quite popular for all kinds of food, and it continues to expand its roster of locations. Not just ethnic food, but all kinds of food being purchased there.
  21. This building has been a long time coming...
  22. Leave in the cart and let the cashier scan. Actually, at Publix, at least, they usually don't scan it. They just enter a code on the register. I think that the experienced cashiers know the codes of the popular large items by heart.
  23. Same here. In the early years the hold time was excessive, but in recent years they saw the competition and really shaped up. Almost never have had an outage in ten years, and customer service for the past 6-7 years has been noticeably better.
