  5. We are having a sidewalk sale and are excited about tomorrow's 3 author line up for tomorrow! Sorry we have not been present on here in months but I , Susan, have just returned this morning from a many month stay in Florida, to take care of my dad who has cancer. It's all good now and I am finally ready to get back to posting with hopeful regularity. Thank you to all that have continued to support our store. We are so sad to see The Book Shelter in Hiram closed and hope you know books will always be plentiful just a few miles away if that was your usual destination. Here is a bit more info: Welcoming back to the store, Layton Green. In this gripping thriller, the bizarre murder of a Satanic priest in San Francisco draws Dominic Grey and Viktor Radek, private investigators of cults, to the scene. Witnesses claim a robed figure, seemingly able to appear and disappear at will, set fire to the priest. When the leader of another Satanic cult in Paris dies under similar circumstances, the case only grows stranger… and more dangerous. Convinced that a charismatic New Age prophet is behind the murders, the investigators undergo a perilous journey into the world of the occult as they try to penetrate the prophet’s inner circle. From the catacombs of Paris to London’s nefarious East End, from the haunted walls of York to a monastic fortress in the Sicilian wilderness, the case plunges Viktor and Grey into a vortex of black magic, ancient heresies, and the dark corners of their own pasts. The Diabolist is a chilling novel that not only pulsates with action and suspense, but also mines a trove of fascinating historical, philosophical, and paranormal research to probe some of our closest held beliefs. From the opening pages to the astonishing conclusion, this latest installment in one of today’s most original new thriller series is not to be missed. We will also have copies of The Summoner and The Egyptian , the first two books in the Dominic Grey series, available for purchase ;o) Also joining us is new author, Kay Hall. 1pm to 3pm is the time if you want to meet some wonderful authors in person. A new superhero is born and her name is Dot Com. On a stormy night in Washington, D.C. Tommy Golden is working late whensuddenly the power goes out in his office. After locating a flashlight, he is startled by the most beautiful girl he has ever seen. She has mysteriously escaped from the computer and is standing before him. When she tells him her name is "Dot Com," he can't help but laugh. The new friends tour Washington, D.C. Using her super computer power, Dot soon discovers a plot to blow up the Pentagon at noon on the 4th of July. The drama of the story continues as Dot and her friends seek help from the President of the United States, Dragonfly Lizards, General Wingspan, Flighty, and all of the American People. Can Dot Com and her friends prevent this disaster? There's only one way to find out. The 3rd wonderful author is our beloved Patricia Sprinkle! Known widely for her Thoroughly Southern Mysteries as well as numerous others, she is signing a book that leads us down another path. We will have most her books on hand as well. ----------------------------------------- Does your family have stories like these? “My father sent these pearls to Mother from Japan when he was stationed there after World War II. She gave them to me on my wedding day.” “This dress has been used for christenings in our family for four generations.” OUR CHERISHED THINGS: a family record book in which to tell brief stories of why you treasure certain family possessions so future generations will cherish them as you do. Just some facts now... We all know how fun it is to shop locally in Paulding and Cobb as well as other local areas, but there's more to it: 1. PROTECT LOCAL CHARACTER AND PROSPERITY Hiram, Dallas and Powder Springs are all unlike any other city in the world. By choosing to support locally owned businesses, you help maintain your city's diversity and distinctive flavor. 2. COMMUNITY WELL-BEING Local owned businesses build strong neighborhoods by sustaining communities, linking neighbors, and by contributing more to local causes. 3. LOCAL DECISION MAKING Local ownership means that important decisions are made locally by people who live in the community and who will feel the impacts of those decisions. 4. KEEPING DOLLARS IN THE LOCAL ECONOMY Your dollars spent in locally-owned businesses have three times the impact on your community as dollars spent at national chains. When shopping locally, you simultaneously create jobs, fund more city services through sales tax, invest in neighborhood improvement . 5. JOB AND WAGES Locally owned businesses create more jobs locally and, in some sectors, provide better wages and benefits than chains do. 6. ENTREPRENEURSHIP Entrepreneurship fuels America's economic innovation and prosperity, and serves as a key means for families to move out of low-wage jobs and into the middle class. 7. PUBLIC BENEFITS AND COSTS Local stores in town centers require comparatively little infrastructure and make more efficient use of public services relative to big box stores and strip shopping malls. 8. ENVIRONMENTAL SUSTAINABILITY >Local stores help to sustain vibrant, compact, walkable town centers-which in turn are essential to reducing sprawl, automobile use, habitat loss, and air and water pollution. 9. COMPETITION A marketplace of tens of thousands of small businesses is the best way to ensure innovation and low prices over the long-term. 10. PRODUCT DIVERSITY A multitude of small businesses, each selecting products based, not on a national sales plan, but on their own interests and the needs of their local customers, guarantees a much broader range of product choices.
