  1. I don't see anything wrong with it. There's not any punishment that I can think of that a teacher could employ without making someone's parent angry. It's not going to hurt him but it could turn out to help him in the long run, he may end up with neat, legible handwriting from all the practice. I would make my daughter read as punishment. When she was young she struggled with it. She's an avid reader now.
  2. From American Nannies website: The following are some general weekly gross wage guidelines assuming a 45-50 hour work week and one or two children. All figures are in US dollars and representative of Year 2008 wages: 18 - 20 years old, or less than 2 years verifiable child care experience - $325-$450 live-in; $9.00-12.00 hour live-out. (7/2009 Fed. Minimum wage = $7.25/hr) 21 years or older, 2 or more years verifiable child care experience, no prior nanny experience (note that college education puts you to the higher end of the salary range) - $350-$550 live-in; $10-15 hour live-
  3. You don't automatically have to be on medication, it depends on if they calculated your dosage correctly and how your body responds to it. The thyroid uptake tests they perform before they give you the pill are supposed to help them figure out how much to give you. I did hear my tech say that I was getting the "standard" dose though. That didn't sound too promising to me.
  4. I found a great doctor at Emory and had the radioactive iodine treatment in December. Currently I'm not taking any medication at all and feel much better. However, I was warned that I may fall into that percentage of people who eventually become hypothyroid. I'm usually unlucky like that. My brother had the radioactive iodine back in the 80's and his levels evened out to normal and have stayed that way for over 20 twenty years. He hasn't had any more problems and doesn't have to take medication at all. If only I could be that lucky.
  5. Do you have teenagers? Mine were always bringing odd stuff home and it seemed my stuff always ended up at someone else's house. Or it was in the car. I found lots of spoons in the car one time. Teenagers are always eating in the car.
  6. Did your lab tests specifically include thyroid levels? I felt the same way and it turned out that I was hyperthroid. The medication to 'slow me down' actually caused me to become even sleepier, more tired all the time and to gain weight. If it isn't one thing, it's another. I would have the battery of thyroid tests run, there is more than one. It sounds so familiar that I would bet you that's it.
  7. I don't know about FB, the IT dept has it blocked here at work. But I wanted to wish you a very happy birthday. I hope you are doing something fantastic to celebrate today.
  8. I totally agree. Rewarding someone for acting like a self-destructive a$$ is not the message they should send. Maybe they are co-dependant enablers. My husband watches 2 1/2 men and I would always tell him that Charlie's character needed to suffer some consequences once in a while because some people believe that you can act like that in real life all time and always get away with it. I guess I was off base, apparently you really can get away with it and be rewarded for it too. Anybody out there willing to give me truckloads of money for acting like a fool?
  9. Sammy needs to stop eating the worm in his tequila bottle. He's a tool. I'm sure that there's nothing rolling around in his head that could be classified as knowledge that would be worth probing.
  10. We are going to the Catfish Den but your dinner sounds so good Mrs. B, I'm jealous!
  11. The beautiful polar bear in Germany that was raised by his zookeepers passed away while on exhibit. After his mother rejected him, zookeepers decided to hand raise him instead of letting him die. It's such a shame. Poor baby, he was only 4 years old.
  12. I thought the same thing. I think it was probably best to just wait on the police to get there and let them sort out who was supposed to leave with whom. It's really easy to be a Monday morning quarterback though. Having had two teenage girls grow up in my house along with all of their assorted friends, I've seen enough to know that almost all of them never take responsibility for their own actions. They claim it's always someone's else's fault. You know, the teacher doesn't like them, the bus driver has it in for them, the kid that sits two seats back did it.....the rabid fox on the playgroun
  13. I remember in middle school (in the late 70's) my bus driver would turn the bus around and go back to the school if we didn't behave. We'd have to call our parents to come get us at the school. My mother couldn't just get off work early at the drop of a hat and a lot of other parents were in the same boat. It caused some problems, for us and for our parents. We all would remember how mad our parents had been and if the bus driver said that she was turning the bus around, we behaved! You didn't hear another word out of us and we sat up straight in our seats like we had common sense.
  14. One more example of how smart and loyal dogs are. I love animals and it breaks my heart to see so many strays in Paulding County. I wish that more people would understand how exceptional these animals are and that they should be treated with respect and taken care of. I know that everyone here on Paulding.com understands but the world is full of Michael Vick types and people who dump their family pet at the pound when they tire of taking care of them.
  15. It's not Hiram / Dallas but the Irish Bred Pub in Douglasville might have it. I know they have a yummy shepherd's pie and bangers & mash .
  16. The benzonatate works well for after taking it for a day or two. It does nothing for headaches or any other pain that the cough causes though. The brandy is what my great-grandmother would bring out whenever someone started coughing. For me, it tasted better than cough syrup!
  17. I don't like taking the codeine either, it puts me to sleep all day and all night. My doctor prescribes benzonatate for my cough. They are squishy little pills that look like pearls. Maybe that's what you'll get. Until then, blackberry brandy will numb your throat and put you to sleep.
  18. I kept my ring from my first marriage. I earned it the hard way. Unfortunately for me, it wasn't worth a plug nickle anyway. I intend to stay married to husband #2 until one of us dies. Even though this man is not my child's father, this ring will pass down to my daughter when I pass away. It's a beautiful, expensive stone and she can do whatever she wants to with it. Wear it, have it reset, sell it, give it to her children, etc.
  19. I like credit unions. Far less fees, great customer service, lower loan rates. I bank with Delta Credit Union. There is one on 120 out towards Marietta. It might be a ways out but with remote deposit and online bill pay, I haven't actually been to the credit union in about 5 years. I haven't had to go in, I've been able to do everything online. I also like Wings Credit Union (formerly Northwest Airlines C.U.)
  20. My husband has it and says that one of his symptoms is a very sharp pain that doesn't go away.
  21. Years ago, this happened at my parent's house. Some young college guy was selling magazines and actually started to pass out in my mother's living room. My parents gave him some water and food. The guy said that he was dropped off in the morning and was told to walk up to every house he could see and that someone would be back that evening to pick him up. He had been walking all day with no lunch and nothing to drink in the heat. Seemed like a nice guy but I really hope that he quit that job the next day.
  22. African American, dark pants? About 160 lbs, maybe a little more? I saw a girl/woman today around 3 PM on Senator off Bakers Bridge that looked like she was going door to door about something. I thought it was strange because she got out of a van parked in front of my house and started walking down the street in the rain with no umbrella, no rain coat, just a hoodie.
  23. I have heard (but don't know for sure) that the Dept. of Labor in Cedartown isn't as crowded or busy as the office in Marietta. The DOL in Carrolton is always crowded. I am sorry about your job. I hope that things start looking up for you real soon.
  24. I love my old school razor flip phone. I'm not upgrading until it won't work anymore.
  25. I got what he was saying. He said that Charlie Sheen is an egomaniac junkie that spouts idiotic nonsense. But he said it in a way that Charlie probably won't have a clue as to what he's saying.
