  1. I think the OP meant that her mom was drawing Social Security, not Supplemental Security Income (SSI). SSI is generally not that much and is generally paid to people younger than 65 who are disabled.
  2. My mom's house is empty and sits a little bit off the road, behind some trees. I worry all the time that the A/C unit will be stolen or the house will again be vandalized (it has happened already). Why oh why couldn't my sister have agreed to sell it right after our mom passed away in 2005, when the real estate market was strong?
  3. If he's unwilling or unable to leave, there is nothing YOU can do. It's all up to him. I would file a police report if I were him. And try to persuade him to have pictures taken NOW.
  4. I hate that for your mom and the whole neighborhood. And you're right about south Cobb County being a cesspool. I live in that cesspool, too. So far, our neighborhood has been pretty safe and we all watch out for each other but we also know it's just a matter of time until the crime wave hits us hard. We know it. Can't do a thing about it. A lot of the people walking up and down Austell Road, Mulkey Road and the connector are probably going to the bus stops. My daughter lives on Humphries Hill and she said that once the bus stopped running a couple of weeks ago, the number of "strang
  5. one, in a long list of reasons, why we want to move away from here. I'm not being bigoted either when I say we're tired of being in the minority, not just race and nationality wise, but also in being among those who obey the law. At least where we're trying to buy a house, the residents respect the law, obey the law and are a community instead of fractions of groups of people.
  6. Howdy Neighbor. I'm just a few intersections from you, just off Oglesby and 278. Macland has been my shortcut for 15 years to get to Dallas. I won't get on 278 near Hiram unless I HAVE to. I avoid that area like the plague. I don't even get on 278 to go TO anything around Hiram. I go to Target or Staples or KMart, I go the backroads. The only time I'll get on 278 is to take hubby to the bike trailhead at Florence. A lot of the time coming home, I'll take backroads from there even. Macland, particularly from 92 to 120, can be a very pretty drive in fall and also in the spring
  7. The reason I go Macland is the traffic which can be horrible on 278. If it's not dodging tractor trailers from Oglesby to 92, it's dodging ladders falling off the backs of pick up trucks around Cadillac Parkway. No thank you. The only time I go 278 that way is to go to Rockmart. Thinking about changing that trip a little bit to avoid Bill Carruth. I HATE 278. Hate it, hate it, hate it. Well until you pass Buchanan Highway then it's OK.
  8. I think the plan is to make me hate my drive to Dallas.
  9. I think something similar might be at the root of her issue with him. Depending on whose version you believe, he propositioned her and she turned him down(her story) or she propositioned him and he turned her down(his story). I know she propositioned my husband. The guy was dating the neighbor's daughter, for about five years. It ended badly, restraining orders were filed, neighborhood was involved to a degree. The daughter has since moved on with her life, as has he. Neighbor, though I love her like a sister, just won't let it go.
  10. I agree. Our business liability went sky-high after 9/11.
  11. She has tried for 10 years to turn us against the guy. We have known him a whole lot longer than we have known her. He worked for my husband for about a year and we still remain friends. I think the fact that we don't really say anything against him is what bothers her. I still can't figure out the purpose of the call. And to top it off, I couldn't find his listing for the auto repair that she says a friend of hers found. Believe me, I looked for it. When I told my hubby about her comment about his FB posts about wanting to "hook up" with someone he just said "well, he's single and he h
  12. I saw him when I had the kidney stone/gallstone issue back in January 2010. I really liked him. Unfortunately, if Dr. Wizner isn't on the OPs insurance, I doubt Dr. Hewling is either. Usually, it's all or nothing in a group.
  13. She should apply again. Having a car is not a reason to deny it, neither is having a house. And does she receive Social Security and not SSI? She is certainly old enough for Social Security.
  14. So, last night my next door neighbor calls. Not real unusual but most of the time we just speak over the fence. We talked about 15 minutes. I had to ASK how her husband was liking his new job and how they both were doing. She went on and on about how she found out the neighbor on the other side of me was operating an auto repair out of the basement and how he was on FB trolling for "hook ups". She said she continued to get mail for him, 10 years after he moved out (long story on that). She said she was afraid that someone might come to take revenge on him and come to her house by mistake
  15. I  Tom and Mary. I'd go back to them in a New York minute. I've been gone from there so long, they would likely consider me a new patient now. That's who we changed from back in 1992 when our insurance changed and he (along with Dr. Templeton and Dr. Roberts) were not on our insurance. Dr Tom and I go back many, many years. I worked there for four and a half years, starting a few months after he came in the practice.
  16. Wow! A Wellstar physician group doctor not on an insurance plan. That's odd. If Wizner isn't an option, I'd go with Goolsby. He really is very nice and takes his time with you.
  17. We have been going to Dr. Goolsby at East Paulding Primary for years now. We changed because the one we had been going to for years and years and years was not on the insurance we had at the time. Besides, Dr. Goolsby is closer for us than that doctor is. That said, I actually changed to Dr. Wizner about a year and a half ago because it's hard to beat a doctor literally five minutes from your house. I wasn't as happy with that practice as I was at East Paulding Primary so I'm really uncertain who I'll go to the next time I need to go. Hubby still goes to Goolsby and didn't want to
  18. the general public, including Christians themselves, tend to hold other Christians to a higher standard. They don't expect someone who proclaims to be a Christian to smoke, drink, swear, chase women, cheat on their taxes, etc, etc. However, Christians are human beings and as such, they are subject to the same vices that non-Christians are. To be a Christian doesn't mean you're perfect. Just forgiven. It's the holier-than-thou attitude, along with the call-out for not tithing and the dirty looks about our grandchildren, that caused us to leave the last church we attended regularly. W
  19. per the article: An Atlanta minister who was a spokesman for the family of Kathryn Johnston, the 92-year-old woman killed by police in a botched drug raid, is suing the estate for nearly $500,000.
  20. The AJC headline was Ga. minister sues estate of woman killed by cops But my thoughts on Markel Hutchins from day one was he was part of the church of Markel Hutchins.
  21. same here. One does not need to be in church to feel connected to God or to worship Him.
  22. If he can prove the verbal agreement, he won't need luck.
  23. Our homeowners, fire (for rental) and auto is all with Allied through Thompson Insurance in Douglasville. We pay our homeowners and fire in the spring but seems like I do remember it had gone up some. Not enough to make me want to change though.
  24. You didn't piss me off. I agree with you.
