  1. No vets here. The standard disabled person tag is $20, the same as a standard tag.
  2. Shhhhhhhh. Don't say that too loud. I have two houses in southwest Cobb that I want to sell in the next couple of years.
  3. A tip about foreclosures: about 99.5% of the time there will be no disclosure of any kind about a foreclosure. A disclosure is something that might alert you to problems with the house, such as someone mentioned the house that flooded. That would (hopefully) be on a disclosure. REOs don't generally have disclosures, so an inspection is MANDATORY from a buyer's perspective. Also, to view the home multiple times is not an optional event. You HAVE to view it several times and look at it at least one of those times with a critical eye. Take a friend who doesn't have anything at stake in you
  4. I absolutely adore the agent we have been working with for the past 18 months. She can get SOME information that I can't but I can get other information faster than she can. You can find out yourself how long a property has been listed and what price changes have taken place. You just gotta know where to look. Some MLS services are better than others. Some agents are MUCH better than others. I've run into some agents who would not update a listing to save their life. I think Mark ran into some of them this past week. Not the ones I've dealt with obviously, but some like them. De
  5. I do. In one place and one place only. And as I said earlier, I don't have a statement from my doctor stating I need it, but all it would take would be a call to the doctor to get one. But I don't own a car and we already have one tag and one placard, so the only thing the statement would do for me is make it to where it applied to me, too.
  6. Placard is free. Tag costs $20. Otherwise, no difference. The disability period is the same. Temporary handicap placards are red. Permanent disability placards are blue. Unless what you have is a red placard, the doctor does not choose which you get--placard or tag. That's YOUR decision. We have a tag on one vehicle and carry the placard in the other since there is a remote possibility that hubby will be riding with someone who does not have one. Hubby "looks" healthy, too. Not young, but healthy. I'm sure we get strange looks when we crawl out of the red conver
  7. I'm so glad to know it's not just me and my daughter who feel that way! We HATE that Walmart. Neither of us will go alone.
  8. I don't recommend Zillow. A lot of their listings are not current.
  9. Ask and ye shall receive: http://office.microsoft.com/en-us/word-help/use-word-2010-to-open-documents-created-in-earlier-versions-of-word-HA010368874.aspx and here is additional information copied from the Microsoft site: this issue may occur if one of the following conditions is true: You try to open a file that was saved in one of the following earlier Word formats. Word 2010 no longer supports documents that were saved in the following Word formats: Microsoft Word for Windows 1.x Microsoft Word for Windows 2.x Microsoft Word for the Macintosh 4.x Microsoft Word for the Macintos
  10. My problem wasn't with 2010. It was trying to open Word documents created in different versions of Word AND different versions of Windows. As I stated: We had this issue with hubby's employer years ago because we were not using the same version of Word that they were. I did not say either of us were using Word 2010.
  11. Some versions of Word allow that. Mine does, but I have Enterprise Office. I guess you should tell Microsoft that. Their website states what I said. Not ALL versions of Word 2010, or a couple of earlier versions CAN open the 97-2003 documents.
  12. Depends on what agency you want to do deal. HUD, the VA, FDIC, Fannie Mae, Freddie Mac and each bank/mortgage lender has their own sites. I use Realtor.com primarily. I also get alerts from Fannie Mae (Homepath). PM me for greater detail about house hunting.
  13. Depending upon your version of Word 2010 you CANNOT open earlier documents. Documents created in certain versions of Word cannot be opened in 2010. Compatibility mode must be turned on as well. We had this issue with hubby's employer years ago because we were not using the same version of Word that they were. We could not open their documents and they could not open ours. Once we synced our versions of Word, neither of us had a problem. But I do agree that it appears that Word is not installed. I do wonder if the document could be opened in OneNote. I don't work with OneNote en
  14. The problem is you can't open a Word 97-2003 document in Word 2010. It's also possible that during the install Word did not load or was not "turned on". Your best bet is if you need the document, use Open Office to open it. You should then be able to save it in the format that you can open.
  15. I don't think the OP had a choice in whether or not to give details about the vehicles as none was given on the scanner. Unless the OP actually SAW the accident, they would not have been able to do so. I would have just posted "cannot give details as none are available".
  16. I agree. Nephew was killed in an accident on I-285 in 1996. It was early morning, tied up traffic so it was on the traffic report. Sister in law heard the traffic report and thought her son was caught in the backup. They shared a car and she was waiting for him to get in from work so she could go to work. She tried calling his pager but got nothing. She never heard a description of the cars involved, nor did she see the noon news where BOTH cars were shown. This was BEFORE anyone had been notified that he was dead. It was ON THE NEWS! My mother in law saw it. Didn't think anything
  17. I don't know. I actually had other insurance that paid for my two visits to the doctor (ortho and gyn). I'm not out anything except the amount they applied to my deductible, roughly $60 from the ortho visit. I just hope that at some point someone doesn't come back to us and want us to pay the premiums since February.
  18. The only thing I have to say about the "change her name" comment is this: if indeed county and state workers are NOT checking for proper documentation before approving benefits such as Food Stamps, then every last one of them who has approved them without the documentation needs to be kicked to the curb. The LAW states that proper documentation must be provided and gives documentation examples that are to be used. IF in fact this is not being followed, the workers need to go. Seriously. The Food Stamp Facts sheet states this: Who can get food stamps? Anyone can apply for food st
  19. I LOVED Aetna. Of all the insurance companies we have had coverage with over the last 33 1/2 years, they were my favorite.
  20. Yep, my disability amount would be more than waiting until my full retirement date. And I probably would qualify for disability BUT I can and want to work. Hubby wanted to continue working but couldn't. He had no choice but to file for disability. He would LOVE to be able to work. It was really tough on both of us to decide that the best thing for him as to file. He SO wanted to work. Our business was flourishing and he loved what he did. Doctor said "nope, you have to stop or risk more damage to your spine, injury or death". Hubby's job involved climbing up ladders, walking on catwal
  21. I know you're not far from the trailhead.
  22. glad to hear he left. If she's abusive to HIM, no telling what she does to the child. He should not be too concerned if she does end up in jail. If a person will be abusive to one person, they are likely to be abusive to another, especially if the one they are abusive to is an adult.
  23. So, we were told our COBRA would run out last November but the company my hubby worked for administered it and didn't care about the 18 month rule so long as we paid the premiums, they were OK with keeping us on it. We did. In February, the coverage changed to HSA *ONLY* and no traditional healthcare coverage. We kept it one month and dropped it because it was so expensive. We applied for health insurance on our own, which I was approved for. Hubby was not approved because of his disability and back problems. Today, I get an e-mail from the previous insurance company (the one BEFORE the
  24. My daughter walks a lot, too. That's her mode of transportation. They don't have a car (they do own one but don't have it at their house right now) and her hubby drives a taxi. She walks. From her house to the Texaco in Austell, to the Food Depot on Bankhead Highway, to Maxway in Austell. Her husband walked from their house to work at the Waffle House on Florence Road, a one-way trip of better than seven miles. Just because someone walks, does not make them "bums". BTW, my daughter has lost over half of her body weight, much of which she has lost because she walks so much. She looks an
