What would you do? Friend & job opportunity
Mama Carol replied to onekidmom's topic in RECENT TOPICS
They certainly won't get rich on unemployment and unless they are having taxes withheld, that one will come back to bite them in the butt (trust me on that one). If I were you, I'd tell them firmly but nicely that you are not trying to run their life but that I have mine to live and it does not include making time to help others find a job when they apparently aren't serious about taking a job when offered. You have no reason to be torn up over this. You're doing the right thing. When that unemployment runs out, they may find that a job is desirable, no matter what the pay, wheth -
all the 'no jobs' threads got me thinking

I love the post!! I do have some tips for employers, too. 1. location if you post a job listing online, mention the general area where you're located. Marietta is a big place. Is it Marietta east of I-75 or Marietta near Lost Mountain. Mentioning the general area would cut down on the applications you receive for people who are too far away to make the drive for the pay you're offering. 2. desired pay vs realistic pay don't pay $8 an hour for a job that really and truly should pay $10 or $12 an hour to someone who has the skills you're looking for. If you only want to pay -
all the 'no jobs' threads got me thinking

I get the "desired salary" question all the time. My standard answer now is that I was in my previous position a very long time and worked for a very generous employer and that I do not expect the same salary as my last position. Seems as though nobody believes me. I usually also tell them that if I am the right candidate for the position, we CAN and will come to a mutually acceptable salary. Not $8 an hour for a job that should pay $14 but something acceptable to both of us. And if they want someone for $8 an hour, they will get them. They will get their $8 an hour worth of employee, to -

Not just no but hell no. Not crazy at all. They might be, however. -
I understand what you're saying about the CDL. The DOT is not very forgiving about accidents. However, as someone who had an accident on a rain slicked road in the past, I can attest to the fact that you can't stop like you can under normal conditions. And add a dump truck, probably loaded, and you're looking at a much, much greater stopping distance.

One really has to wonder what will become of these little ones when they hit puberty and are therefore too "old" to be doing this. Or what they will go through when they grow up a little and find out that not everyone thinks being dressed up like sluts is proper for a toddler. Or heaven forbid, something horrible happens to them BECAUSE some pervert thinks they are putting on a show just for them and decides to do something to them. The parents should be charged with child endangerment.

Things are not so bad when you count the moments

How true! I am this way with my best friend. I don't remember what she gave me (other than that goofy looking gorilla that I gave back to her last year, after 30+ years). I barely remember the fact that we weren't friends for nine years. What I do remember is she was there for me at probably the worst time in my entire life, listening to me, loving me unconditionally (as did her entire family) and keeping me active mentally, physically and spiritually. The best present is the way they make you feel. -

Thank you for explaining what the networking people do. I know support from other businesses is very important, especially if your product or service is sold business-to-business and not to the public. While my current business might be fairly new, I'm certainly not new to business. I hope that I can get involved and both help others and receive help myself. I'll certainly plan to make at least one of those meetings in the next couple of weeks. May be going out of town in the next two weeks, so it may be near the end of the month. -

It would involve getting my hubby to the trail early on a Wednesday but we could do that. I'll try to make it before the end of the month. I'll have to tell Steve thank you. He's the bomb, too. I just wish I'd known about him earlier. And I'll tell the other Steve you said hi. -

The Paulding Business Association??? Let me know and I'll try to be there one Wednesday. Ah gee whiz. And yes, I do find that tidbit uplifting. Is this Steve the one I'm thinking it is or is it my former employer, who BTW told me to tell you hello? -

Whenever you're free, let me know. Monday, Wednesday and Friday mornings I can do a late breakfast. Thursdays are my only day for lunch, though. Busy on Tuesdays. And if you run across anyone who needs my services, please let me know. -

I agree 100% with this. Pcommers were wonderful to me when I was going through the foot surgery ordeal. I had so many people PM me just to tell me they were thinking about me and to share their trials of surgery. Plus, having met you and Pubby and some of the others, has been a real blessing to me. Love all of you! And miss seeing you, LPPT. When's lunch??? -

You sum up my thoughts very well. I haven't been in church in several years and have no immediate plans to return. It doesn't mean that I'm not just as much of a believer than I was when I went to church three times a week. How could one doubt? -
I was very, very concerned about a friend back in 1995/1996 as he was deeply, deeply depressed. When I found out the most dangerous time is when you come out of the deepest, darkest depression I put off worrying as much. Of course, once he pulled out of that depression, I again worried. Fortunately, he came through it but it's something he still fights every day. Wish I didn't know as much about mental illness as I do.
-
Oddly enough, suicide is more commonly committed as a depressed person is getting better. A person deep in depression usually lacks the motivation to commit suicide.

The roads were wet as well. Dump trucks, or any large truck for that matter, do not stop easily or quickly. Prayers for everyone involved as well as the witnesses.

I can't help but wonder if the mom thought for even one minute that a child predator might be using the photos of her daughter to fulfill their own fantasies, if she would continue to do that to her child. She would probably think the the predator was the one in the wrong and she was doing nothing but right by the child. So sad to see children pushed into being mini-tramps. Let kids be kids.

I wouldn't let my 18 year old daughter leave the house in that outfit on the left, much less let my barely-more-than-a-toddler wear it EVER. What is wrong with the mama? Where to start......

If you don't mind the drive to Austell, Austell Boxboard takes them any time, day or night. They also take phone books, catalogs, office-type paper, newspaper.
-
Dallas Highway and Barrett Parkway scare the crap out of me anyway. Prayers for everyone involved, including the truck driver.

My last full time job was in Cobb County (Austell) in 1983. Since that all my jobs have been in Paulding. Hubby worked in Paulding from 1986 to 1990, from home from 1991 to 2005, in Douglas County from 2005 until May 2009 when the company moved from Douglas to the Six Flags area and then in Cobb until March 2010. In a lot of ways I believe that if you're good at what you do, you may actually have a better chance of getting a job in Paulding vs another county.
-
You sure it's an iPod?
-
Interesting that I haven't worked anywhere but in Paulding County since 1986. But yet, there are no jobs in the county. Even the majority of my interviews since July 2010 have been in Paulding or Douglas and only two in Cobb.
