  1. I've been doing this for quite some time......My friends think I'm crazy. Sometimes, there is no other alternative, but, I try. Hopefully, many more will also. Sometimes, the price is a little higher, too. Also, you'll find things like, say, kids underwear - look carefully. The same brand may be made in different countries. I had one pack assembled in mexico with American materials & another pack - of the same brand from the same store - made in Pakistan. New Balance tennis shoes - most are made in the usa - but look at the box - some are not. Here's a good place to start: My l
  2. Dinner is it for me too.....Seems I cook the same ole same ole. The fam says to try new things, but, when I do they very rarely like it. I hate deciding what everyone will eat every night!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!
  3. Talk with each of the offices accounts department - not the receptionist. Explain how many doctors you are seeing. You may be surprised at the ones that will write off the copay. Hang in there. I hope you receive good news today!
  4. I know you hate she had to do this - but, what a life lesson and what a strong girl. She wants her education and she's willing to work for it - unlike so many. The loan is short term - as she can pay it off quickly when the Pell does come in. I would be proud of her for taking the bull by the horns and taking care of the problem. She'll go far!
  5. AJC story A 29-year-old Villa Rica man apparently expected his mother to iron his clothes for him. And when she wouldn't, he pulled a gun and held her hostage for several hours, police said.
  6. Did a quick look.....appears as if many Lions Clubs, Kiwanis, Elks, Ruritan, Rotary, etc., clubs help with hearing aids costs....might try calling/emailing local chapters.......
  7. I'm so sorry for little Grayson! Prayers to lift you as you go thru this! Thankfully, you are able to be there with him and ease this process. I know what you mean with hearing aid costs....My mom wears them and Medicare does not cover them either. We found out the hard way that she'd declined the "insurance" that the audiologist offered on the hearing aids when she broke one changing the battery (which is very very tiny) and they had to hit their savings again to pay for a new one. The only thing I can say is that the payment issues really do not reside with the insurance companies - we'
  8. Hubby usually picks up the pizza - I give him a big smooch for "cooking" dinner!
  9. Freedom is a right ultimately defended by the sacrifice of America's servicemen and women. ---Arnold Schwarzenegger Thank you for this this morning. I received word around 8 a.m. that a loving son succumbed early this morning in Germany to his injuries received in Afghanistan late last week. Withholding name as it is not my information to share. Through the picnics/fireworks/parties, etc., let not our hearts and minds forget those throughout our land who are serving or have served our country, especially those who have given the ultimate sacrifice.
  10. Guess you've worked directly with these agencies also?? You speak the truth!
  11. Talk to the person in charge of insurance billing at your doctors office.....this is so not true.....And, I do have facts. I was one of the people who dealt with insurance at the doctors office. The government ran programs are a joke with payments/denials/justification.
  12. If you are on a HMO or a PPO, then yes, you choose from a list of doctors. And, if you go outside of that list, you may be responsible for the amount of money over the "negotiated rate" with the doctor. I think that all stinks. If you have Kaiser, you go to one of their facilities (unless it's an emergency). We have a high deductible plan along with a HSA - where we put tax deferred money into a savings account and pay our doctors with that up to a certain point where insurance pays 100%.
  13. Just got in from a week in Jacksonville beach (I grew up visiting family in that area & just enjoy going there). Usually very quiet & peaceful. This time - slammed. People from all over who changed from going to the Gulf & somehow ended up in Jacksonville - of all places!!!! My son met kids from Iowa, Arkansas, Missouri, Texas, Louisiana and our complex was full with North Carolina, Alabama & Georgia tags. Just everywhere. Weird. Thought I had my own quiet place. Hope they didn't like it so they'll go away! LOL Not a drop of rain - nothing but white sand & Sun!
  14. Sadly, this new "healthcare reform" does absolutely nothing to control costs.
  15. There's the Yorktown @ Patriots Point. If your hubby is into the Civil War stuff, there's the Hunley being restored (Confederate submarine). Of course, you have to visit the open air market in downtown. Take a tour of the historic area.
  16. I second that.....I've never met someone like him. I'd vote for him for any office he wanted to hold. Honest, hard working, family man - goes above and beyond the call of duty.
  17. Hubs reminded me that if you wanted to see something really unique - drive about an hour to Clarksdale, Mississippi - the REAL home of the blues - and go to Morgan Freeman's place My link The Blues Museum is there and it's cool. Also, the HUGE blues festival in August. My link DO NOT STAY IN CLARKSDALE MISSISSIPPI!! Batesville is VERY safe or, if you're coming back driving, you could stay over in Oxford - near Ole Miss - and come home that way. Course, you could spend a day in Tunica gambling! LOL
  18. I've only stayed in a hotel in Memphis 1 time and it was at the Peabody - for the experience. One night was all. We always stay with family. Sorry, I have no suggestions. I asked my hubby & he was recommending a couple of places out by his aunt, but, that's a ways from Graceland and downtown. I'd recommend using tripadvisor.com and/or hotels.com and just read thru the reviews. The first time I went to Memphis, I was pumped. Wanted to see EVERYTHING. My brand new (at the time) hubby did his very best to make it a good experience allowing me to pick up info and choose where to go e
  19. My hubby grew up an hour south of Memphis in Mississippi. Several of his family lived in & around Memphis. Beal St., Rondevous Ribs & the Peabody Hotel (to see the ducks brought down from the penthouse to the fountain inside or back up), Mudd Island & the Pyramid are about it - the Zoo is pretty nice. The area around Graceland isn't a "nice" area to be in; however, due to the tourists, there is a good police presence. The very first time I walked down Beale, I was mugged, so I don't have good things to say about Memphis. My purse was a "crossbody" so the "run by" grab didn't wo
  20. Honda Pilot - Seats 8 VERY comfortably - at least that's what my friends kids say when I carry them around. They didn't think there would be any room in the the 3rd row, but said it was a lot nicer than someones else's 3rd row because they have leg room and shoulder straps AND cup holders (woohoo). I've sat back there a time or two when we've had my parents, my inlaws and us.....I don't mind it.....
  21. They're not the only ones.....my visa bill showed purchases in "ACKWORTH" when I recently shopped downtown....
  22. Hey, even the hubby enjoyed it...so that makes it a winner.
  23. It had it's moments. I'd give it a B- or a C+. My boy was entertained. I mean, it's not a "must see", but, it was cute. He's been sitting down beside me going "wait for it, wait for it" - then passing gas. He didn't want to see it, but, it when the heat index was miserable & even the pool was yukky. We had a good mom/son afternoon with it. He thought they did a good job making the dogs look like they were actually talking.
