  1. It was a seven month old according to the article. The title states otherwise. That editor needs to be fired.
  2. Occasionally I get a craving for soda. There's no HFCS in the Coke here so I give in a little more than I used to. I'd NEVER touch Aspartame, Splenda, or any other chemically created sugar. It makes me ill.
  3. Kitteh!!!! So cute, makes me want another one. I'm absolutely enchanted with the picture of her drinking from the doggie bowl. Adorable.
  4. I know that my "storage" situation is probably different than most but I'll share anyway. Two months ago, we sold our house and everything in it. We moved to another country with a total of 12 suitcases and our two cats. We ended up having to rent a storage unit to hold my Grandmother's china and some of my husband's Marine Corps memorabilia. Each time we come back to the States, we will bring some more with us. We rented the smallest possible unit and it's not even 1/16th full. And I'll be clearing it out ASAP. I do not understand keeping things, just to keep them. After having to
  5. In a perfect world, babies would be born into perfect families. And then we'd all be the same. Yawn.
  6. What is difficult about learning Spanish from Duolingo, Rosetta Stone, and Spanishdict is that Costa Rican Spanish is not a typical "Mexican Spanish". Ticos do not say "de nada", instead it's a form of "con mucho gusto" (with much pleasure). They are very formal so using "tú" is also very rare. I despise learning the "tú form" on Rosetta Stone and Duolingo because it just clouds my brain with useless info. Tico spanish is a combination of Castillian spanish and Latin spanish, with their own brand of Pura Vida thrown in LOL. My favorite part of the learning process is having the dentist o
  7. I was born the year you graduated high school, after my biological mother was sent far away to give birth to me and put me up for adoption. I get your point, but it's just that it's not a taboo as it once was. I'm torn between being grateful that it's no longer a taboo and feeling sad for the babies born without much of a chance at life.
  8. Enjoy! Have a Moxie for me while you're there
  9. My husband was diagnosed with it after I told him for years to get checked out. I couldn't stand to lie in bed and wait for him to start breathing again. No snoring, just silence for 20 seconds and then he his breathing kicks in again. Drove me crazy because I'd catch myself holding my breath while his breath stopped.
  10. OMG, this drives me nuts. Our stove in our apartment does this too!
  11. I use duolingo almost everyday. The only problem I have is that if there is no internet I cannot use it. But between spanishdict.com, duolingo, Rosetta Stone, weekly classes, a weekly one on one with a Tico, and multitudes of dictionaries, some of the Spanish is starting to stick.
  12. Nope, the guy in this article had an honorable discharge. Oh, and I wouldn't pay too much attention to the ads in this article, it's from an English speaking Costa Rican newspaper. The article itself is a Washington Post article.
  13. He served his country, served his time for his little crime. He's a permanent resident that has been in the US legally since he was three years old. Yet he's now only welcome back in the US when he's dead. That's beyond messed up.
  14. Elie Wiesel's "Night" about his time spent in Auschwitz. His story hurt my heart but opened my eyes to the big world out there, past and present. George Orwell's 1984. Since then, I've read almost all of his books...good and bad LOL The rest of the books I read in school, I had to go back and re-read as an adult to appreciate some of them. Others I still think "suck". "The Old Man and the Sea" was no better at 37 years old than it was at 14. I need to go back and read "A Raisin in the Sun" again. I hated it my freshman year, but maybe it will mean more to me now.
  15. This article really made me think about certain Immigration policies. It really burns me that no politician aside from the two mentioned are willing to even touch this issue. http://www.ticotimes.net/More-news/News-Briefs/Deported-veterans-Banished-for-committing-crimes-after-serving-in-the-U.S.-military_Tuesday-August-13-2013 .....continues in link here http://www.ticotimes.net/More-news/News-Briefs/Deported-veterans-Banished-for-committing-crimes-after-serving-in-the-U.S.-military_Tuesday-August-13-2013 I highlighted the last part because it really touched me. The veterans
  16. I'm just telling you what I saw when I visited Kuwait, Bahrain, and Dubai. Not all muslims dress like that, in fact, most do not.
  17. The majority of Muslim women I have seen don't dress that way either.
  18. While I actually agree with you and have thought the same thing many times, I have to ask...There's a DMV in Paulding county?
  19. I can't imagine living in constant fear every time I left the house.
  20. Mine was fine last night. Today, I'm having the same problem as the OP. I use Safari. Help!
  21. sheeze fire. I'm headed to the beach tomorrow for the weekend. There's no sharks in the Pacific, right?
  22. I think WenFen was the first person I met. She cared for my dearly departed Bulldog and my ancient kitty. Because of her incredible ability to care for pets and her giant heart, I was able to spend time with my husband in far away places when he was working overseas. My DH was able to get some much needed time away from a combat zone while he was on R&R because we could trust our beloved pets with her. Momof3 sewed hospital gowns for my nephew while he was battling his second round of Lymphoma after having already endured a liver transplant. I've never been so surprised at the ki
