  1. I usually just use hotels.com to find the hotels in the area. Then I go directly to the hotels website and book through them. I've never found the discount websites to be very helpful or much cheaper. I always check the rates using both AAA discount and also military discount. Sometimes the rates are substantially cheaper, but sometimes it doesn't make a difference. I've never once been asked for proof of either AAA or military when checking in.. I even used the AAA rate at a hotel in Dubai. And ALWAYS check reviews on TripAdvisor before booking. I've avoided a few cheaper hotels based
  2. I used to spend my summers near Grand Junction, CO as a kid. Each year when I came back home to IL, I'd cry for weeks. Beautiful place.
  3. I think the best tip I read was to "silence your cellphone". I don't think I would have thought about that in the heat of the moment.
  4. I find it ironic that a person from New England is picking on someone else's regional accent. My poor husband from Maine is trying to learn Spanish. It's damn near impossible because he still doesn't pronounce his "r's".
  5. You'll have a great time and it sounds like NOW is the right time to leave. Have the time of your life!
  6. Please, please, please...the "L" in SALMON is silent. Thank you.
  7. No kidding, I've heard innumerable mis-pronounciations. My fave is Mass-a-two-sh*tz
  8. I say "Ell-I-Noy". I was born and raised there as well, although I think the "ill" is more fitting for that state.
  9. My husband and I said the same thing today. We were so surprised to see that KMart still open. I thought it was closing 5-7 years ago.
  10. Spirit Air is a discount airlines that nickel and dimes you with fees. Fees for baggage, fees to choose your seats, fees for water, fees for printed tickets, membership fees, etc. I won't fly them. But that's just my preference. I know some people that don't mind them. Here's a few of their fees http://www.spirit.com/OptionalServices
  11. What a sad commentary. Since when is ok to kill someone over a gas cap? Yes, there is definitely something wrong with where we are as a nation.
  12. Yeah, let's forget about all those legal residents who have fought, served, and in some cases given their lives for this country. And forget all those people who work legally, pay all of their taxes into SS, medicare, etc. Why should they reap any of the benefits they've paid into? Seriously? There are some people who are legal residents who have contributed more to the US society than many US "citizens". There's a difference between being in the US illegally, legal (not anchor baby mama) resident, and citizen.
  13. That's pretty good if you can tell someone's immigration status just by looking at them. You should work for I.C.E. And did you mean to include legal residents or you think ONLY citizens should receive assistance?
  14. After living in a different country, and using prescriptions made outside the US, I now would have no qualms about buying outside the US. I love being able to go to a Farmacia, talk to a doctor and pick up a medication if needed. We have a friend who is waiting on one more government license to open his online pharmacy here (in Costa Rica) as well. I absolutely, 100% KNOW he is legit. He's registered in the National registry and just waiting on the municipality to give him the OK. We will be buying from him here if he can get us meds cheaper than I can at the farmacia down the street.
  15. Not looking so good. But apparently there is some demand for it because I'm able to get the game in Costa Rica on basic cable.
  16. That is very common here in Costa Rica. Or you can just see a private doctor as needed and pay as you go. It's much easier than using the government medical system. And every doctor gives you their personal cell and email and will even make housecalls.
  17. Those churches agreed to sell their property for around $20 million.
  18. Yahoo news articles are the worst for lack of editing. Not a day goes by that there aren't a few errors.
  19. Might as well tax people's feet too. And make sure they are licensed and equipped properly while walking. After all, they are using the road too. I find it so sad that people are willing to allow the government to intrude on every aspect of their life.
  20. Must have a law for everything. What ever happened to "the Land of the Free"???
  21. I see them quite a bit, and those suckers aren't cheap. I prefer the alligator to the ginormous horsey logo too.
  22. Speaking of High Society (LOLOLOL), I think Electric Cowboys does this. They have the worst drinks I have ever had.
  23. I love the books by Khalid Hosseini; The Kite Runner and a Thousand Splendid Suns. When I'm back in the States, I need to pick up his latest book, "When the Mountains Echoed". I was almost going to buy it here but thought better of paying $40 for it. http://khaledhosseini.com
