Outsourcing to other countries...
lotstodo replied to Thoughts from the Evil Galaxy's topic in RECENT TOPICS
Unfortunately, what you say here flies in the face of reality and is disputed by every fact available. Do you think that Jimmy Carter would be co-chairman of a commission that promotes "employing workers at slave labor wages and the mistreatment of human beings all for the sake of a cheaper shirt while undercutting or driving out of business US manufacturers"? I find that doubtful. Do you just flatly deny all the studies that show that free trade helps the economies of both partners ? That for every job saved through restrictive tariffs, up to eight are lost in other parts of the econom -

"They" tried nothing under Clinton, and the Democrats pressed for and got NAFTA. Also despite what you might think US GDP improved as a direct result of NAFTA. The point that I am making and that you have apparently missed is that this is not a Democrat vs. Republican issue. No us and them. There were past Presidents and representatives from both parties at the signing of NAFTA, including Jimmy Carter, Mr. Human Rights. Carter even served as co-chairman of NAFTA after it's implimentation. Economies always improve under free trade and suffer under the kinds of restrictions you applauded in -

Clinton signed NAFTA in 1993 during a Democrat majority in the house and senate, but don't let facts get in the way of a good rant. -
Outsourcing to other countries...

Not one legitimate economic study ever done of trade tariffs has ever shown them to be beneficial to the economic growth of either the country imposing them, or the country that is the target. Not one. In fact most show that for each job saved through a protective tariff, as many eight jobs are lost. The political reason that this fact does not deter trade organizations from requesting them, or politicians from enacting them, is that the trade that requests the tariff does, in fact save jobs in their industry. The net job losses occur when consumers who have to pay more for those goods and -

Yes, there is something called "phonesourcing", that is kicking the butt of some overseas call centers with good ol' USA ingenuity and free market competition. This is growing at a rate of 20%, compared to a 4% growth rate for Indian call centers. Customers in some industries felt like they were not getting the service that they deserved from overseas call centers, and as an answer to this problem, "phonesourcing" uses home based individuals in the US to handle those calls, while remaining cost competitive. With a network of home based assistants, there is no need for massive phone banks -

The key word in the OP is TAX. That is the goal of the legislation. Right now, the cost of handling a non technical customer service call in a call center in India is less than half what it is in a US call center. The 25 cent tax will not induce businesses to change their policy, but it will take a quarter out of the private sector and drop it into the greedy hands of the Federal Government, and that quarter ultimately comes out of the pockets of the people who are customers of the company. -
I joined the American Seniors Association last year after many years of AARP. I was tired of AARP spending my money on lobbying Congress for causes that fit their agenda, not the wishes of their membership. ASA has the same sort of benefits, including Medi-gap Insurance, discounts on rental cars, etc.. and they don't lobby for the insurance companies and industries that pour millions of dollars into the coffers of AARP.

Wow. This seems pointless. CYB, you removed the context in which you posted the names of the fallen in Operation Enduring Freedom. I sincerely hope that it was to honor them for their ultimate sacrifice. I also hope that everybody, including Sgt. Carter feels better now. I spent some time this morning at the grave of a dear friend who lost his life in the first Gulf War. I miss him and thank him and all others who served, including all of my fallen family and friends that gave their lives to defend this great country over the years. Thanks to every family of the fallen as well. Your -
The worst man made disaster is widely considered to be Bhopal India chemical leak that killed about 16,000 people. The worst offshore oil leak was the Ixtoc 1 blowout in 1979 that spilled 140 million gallons over ten months into the southern Gulf of Mexico and affected beaches throughout the region. As you say, "Thanks for playing". I already do most of my work from home, and I'll stop driving when you do. Now who is it that likes to call everybody a hypocrite? My memory fails me.

I suggest that Mr. McBerry sue himself, since a letter in his handwriting that he does not deny was authored by him substantially corroborates the statements of Rachel, her parents, and her Pastor. The same letter also corroborates the conclusion of the investigation done by the GPSC, the result of which was the suspension of his teaching certificate. His vindication is in his own mind, and he has produced nothing to counter the statements and evidence in Post 92 above, actions which occurred years before Mr. McBerry decided to run for governor, and therefore could not have been fabricated t

The State of Georgia desperately needs to get out of the hotel and golf course business. They are under used black holes sucking up resources needed by the State Parks.

Some people might call that first comment worthy of slander, if you don't have the proof to back it up. I assume that you don't have that proof, so at the best your comment is an uncalled for insult made anonymously. In this case the poor reflection lands on the person making the derogatory statement, not the target.

Jack, I must say that even with the best minds in the business working around the clock and millions of dollars spent, BP can't keep up with your agile mind. You have solved the problem. I can see Svanberg sitting in front of the TV at 2 AM, shopping channel blaring, yelling into the phone "What do you mean that will put me over the limit on my VISA Card???

Use of 'gray water' for garden-can anybody confirm?
lotstodo replied to kerstinamber's topic in RECENT TOPICS
What a lot of folks don't understand is that if gray water is to be stored, it requires treatment because it contains bacteria and pollutants that are potentially harmful to people and the environment, especially if allowed to fester. You should immediately use any gray water captured, and never constantly saturate an area with graywater. Georgia, like many other states, does not have a specific gray water policy separate from general effluent leaving a residence or business. This is why it is currently illegal to divert the flow using the plumbing system, as pointed out by theplumber. -
If the earth looses it's lubricant, will it slow down? I could use a couple more hours in the day but the idea of gaining a few pounds isn't so hot.

Always trust an expert in overalls. JSYK, experiments have shown that polypropylene booms absorb about 7 times more oil and far less water than hay or hair, and the oil can be recovered from the synthetic booms. Oil soaked hay and hair are considered hazardous waste, and must be disposed of accordingly. Florida has banned the use of any alternative methods of absorbing the spill, and have named hay specifically as a banned substance.

Thanks. I should have added that I was directed to this ap by an IT friend of mine who checked it out first. He has completely blocked FB and MySpace from his corporate environment. I share your skepticism, particularly since half of the Adware out there purports to be a security scanner.
