  1. There are two things that an employee "earns" from their employer 1 ) A fair day's pay for a fair day's work 2 ) A valued opinion Notice that I did not say that an employee is owed anything beyond what is earned. You are not born into this world with the right to a job, health insurance, vacation, or sick leave. You earn those through giving your employer what they require in the way of attendance, attention, skill ,honesty, and caring. Those that consistently give their employers these things will always earn a decent paycheck, benefits, and respect as a member of a team trying to
  2. There is something called The Drake Equation that attempts to mathematically answer the question of "how many planets in the galaxy are capable of supporting intelligent life". It is obviously not a certainty, but it shows that about 10 planets in the Galaxy are so capable. The the Fermi paradox however, suggests that they are each short lived, and that the number commonly in existence at any given point in time may be much smaller, maybe even 0-1. The mathematical likelihood of any of them actually finding each other is probably very very close to zero. It seems likely that intelligent
  3. Great Idea. Welfare is a privilege, not a right.
  4. As was noted previously, while the military may honor a request to not hold night exercises at the airport, it is an ARFF/NPIAS certified joint use public facility open 24 hours a day to all aviation capable of using the runway. The County can't stop it.
  5. HUH??? Shrinking Middle Class Income???? Real Personal Household Income in Constant Dollars (purchasing power) has increased steadily in spite of fluctuation with the economy The purchasing power of the average family is growing, not decreasing.
  6. Crew Cab, Long Bed, V-10, enough torque to climb a tree. Heavy Duty Everything. Earned every scratch and wears them like a badge of courage. Never seen the inside of a repair shop. What's not to like. This ain't no Sunday truck.
  7. The kid is lying. There is far more to this than meets the eye. You do not under any circumstances have to stop or yield for a school bus unless the warning lights are activated, or it has not resumed motion after deactivating the warning lights. At any other time the bus has no special right of way, and is to be treated as any other motor vehicle.
  8. I often have to sign non- compete agreements. You have to be careful of the wording, so they do not restrict your use of your talent or craft, and one thing that I always insist upon is that the non compete is null and void after the expiration or termination of any contract with the company. The only clause that I will let stand is that I won't solicit business from their clients for one year following termination of the agreement, and that I will never disclose proprietary information. If they want him to sign a non compete now, he should tell them to go .... There is no valid reason for
  9. So very sorry for the entire family. May you find the peace that you need.
  10. Well if you buy the premise that one can OVERexaggerate, then one must also be able to UNDERexaggerate, as well as exaggerate in exactly the right amount. On Pcom that's just par for the course.
  11. The suggestion that religion, and freedom of/from it had nothing to do with the founding of our country is, as a point of history, as incorrect as the notion that it was the only reason. It is a shame that politics trumps truth, but that is the society that we live in today. History should be the truthful and factual telling of the past, warts and all, not a story to make us feel either good or bad about ourselves or others. Emotions, beliefs, and politics have no place here.
  12. If they track mud onto the street they are in violation of state environmental laws concerning sedimentation control. That is quite a stretch though just to get them to put down a little gravel.
  13. He has three months do disprove the long standing theory that the person that testifies loudly to his holiness instead of his abilities is doing so for a reason. The old "if he's a good Christian, he must be an good honest man" saw doesn't play so well when his true past is revealed, and being 'Christian" is no more a qualification to represent the people of this county than being able to read and write English. He certainly was not required by law to disclose his transgressions, but I doubt that he would have won had they been universally known, given the fact that two other well qualif
  14. Isn't it nice to know that the dumbass gene is apparently dominant? They call it mellow yellow.

  17. "I don't believe it will materialize and it's not my intention for the city to be supportive of it," Mayor Kasim Reed said. "We have too many challenges in the public safety space to deploy those kinds of resources around a program or an event that is not well run or well managed," he added. "To create a festival over the Internet is something I'm not comfortable in doing when I have a police force that is extraordinarily stretched." No City Support for Freaknik I wonder if the mayor is aware of the fact that all of these kids aren't asking his permission?
  18. It's a shame that kids can't be left to their own devices much any more. We all did stupid things that were maybe a little risky, but sure were fun. I blame video games. If kids were bored inside they all went outside to play in the neighborhood. Now they just play Guitar hero. There is another great book "The Dangerous Book for Boys". http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=c5PSdBWvx8s
  19. Way to go PSD! I thought that it wasn't possible to retire without Government help. I guess that we learn something every day.
  20. Dr. John Huffman, the Clemson researcher that developed the latest compound to make the news has said that even if it was successfully copied, that it would have a minimal effect at best if it were smoked, and it is more likely that a placebo effect combined with smoke of any kind is what the kids are experiencing. He seems to think that it's blown out of proportion, and calls the kids that smoke it "idiots".

  22. First of all, as shown in another thread, Hospitals and Medical Insurers make an after tax profit of under 4%. It's not them. Second, as pointed out here, the cost of medical care is rising faster than inflation because of a number of factors, such as innovation, defensive medicine, indigent care, and as Mrs H points out, over use by persons who have low or no deductible insurance plans. Several studies have shown that persons with high deductible or catastrophic insurance plans tend to use the Medical system less often without any worse outcome. This is why the consumer must take back
  23. With all that's in the news, it would probably be prudent to assure them that they are financially secure if they are worried. Kids can stress over finances too. I wouldn't be at all specific, but I would make sure that they are not worried about money, and teach them how to save and budget when the time is right. And never argue about money in front of your children.
