A 16 year old sails around the world ALONE?
lotstodo replied to dumbestgirlintheworld's topic in RECENT TOPICS
The fact that she even attempted this portion of her trip in June may be lost on many, but not on the people who have the experience required to actually complete a circumnavigation. To my knowledge there has never been an organized around the world sailing event that planned to be in these waters at any time other than summer. This alone would indicate to many that she and her parents are not as knowledgeable as they seem to believe that they are. She left California later than most would recommend anyway, and had immediate equipment problems that forced her to restart from Cabo in Febr -
A 16 year old sails around the world ALONE?
lotstodo replied to dumbestgirlintheworld's topic in RECENT TOPICS
The Whitbread is considered one of the most dangerous sports in the world, and the Around Alone( I guess it's the Velux now) is even more treacherous as injuries are fairly common and when you are alone you're screwed. Sailors with decades of offshore racing experience have been lost at sea or had to abandon ship in some of the worst, most desolate ocean in the world. To top that she is sailing around the Cape in the dead of winter. Solo Circumnavigation is not really something that I would think a 16 year old would be well prepared for. I hope she is alright. -
Disgusting. If she ever had a soul I'm sure she sold that long ago too.

Yeah, the next thing you know he'll be wanting to hire blacks and let women wear slacks.

Georgia Highway 92 - Public Hearing Open House
lotstodo replied to MillCreek's topic in Paulding County NEWS
Could it be that D'ville paid for an alternative plan to the original GDOT proposal? They had some unique challenges in downtown, and as I recall the original proposal looked somewhat like the Austell RR overpass. There is already a proposed layout for phase 4 in Paulding County. Apparently some of the work was done by Jacobs in September of 2009 based on a design done by Carter-Burgess in 2007. For those interested here is the latest layout by Jacobs in 2009 I'm sure that there is engineering to be done still, but why should Paulding County pay for the design or engineering of a -
We have a Whirlpool clothes washer that has lasted 12 years and is still going strong.

Who made it?

Thanks for posting that. I saw where the Fulton County Animal Shelter took in many dogs and cats from southern Louisiana, so that they would have room to set up bird cleaning stations and hospitals for the affected wildlife. Good job guys. Thanks. You can also volunteer for various activities at deepwaterhorizonresponse.com. So far they do not anticipate needing out of state volunteers along the coast, but they are allowing registration.

I'll file that away for future reference. Good to know.

The only "good" Italian I know of is Provino's in Douglasville or Scallini's in Smyrna.

Dependable Services just called to say that they didn't get the parts from Maytag, and they won't be in until Monday or Tuesday. They will call me back to reschedule.

Not all of those that were reassessed lost enough value to make up for the increased millage rate. Some did, some didn't. That means that not all homeowners saw a reduction. That's all I'm saying. Certainly most of the increase in the individual property tax payments was due to the loss of the HTR, but the premise that all homeowners "saw a decrease in their property taxes" is erroneous. The county is getting by on decreased revenues however, and I appreciate that.
-
I guess that the sooner you call, the sooner it gets fixed. It looks like they are fairly well prepared. It sure seems like it should take forever to fix 1.7 million dishwashers though.
-
Right. It would be a reduction in revenue for the county in spite of a millage rate increase. This is due to tax delinquencies and a reduction in property values. The tax paid by the individual homeowner would be increased or decreased based upon their assessment and the application of the millage rate increase. The jist of it is that the county is getting along with less revenue, but the individual homeowner isn't necessarily paying less tax. I'm glad to see some semblance of fiscal responsibility on the part of the BOC this year. I know that this budget wasn't easy to hammer out.

It's great to see the crowd behind an honorable man. He's only human, and admitting his mistake took guts. His statement spoke volumes. -
Tried all afternoon to get through on their website to no avail. I did just get through on the toll free number and Dependable Services will be out to fix the machine on Monday the 7th. Sweet.

Oh it would absolutely be the right thing to do. I'm just sayin'..... -
But the fish aren't in the road, they are in a private lake. That's like saying that if you throw a chain with a grapple from the street to a lawnmower parked in a private carport, and you can pull the lawnmower out, you can have the lawnmower as long as you don't walk on the private property. Just like that lawnmower, the fish belong to the property owner no matter where you are standing.

I saw this on the news last night and I have to say that both men acted honorably. It is such a shame that Galarraga can't get the record corrected, but what a can of worms that would open. You know that if they change the record for this obvious and admitted mistake by the Ump, that every crybaby in baseball will be wanting an "official review" of every blown call in baseball. Sorry folks, but blown calls are a part of the game. Life goes on. We all know that he pitched a perfect game. -
I had heard that the COE was going to allow Louisiana to temporarily seal off Plaquemines as a test case, but I haven't heard anything about the more agressive program. I'd really like to know how much is leaking too. I hope that BP knows because if the new cap is undersized the pressure of the oil will just keep it from being set down over the cut end of the pipe. As far as wanting to draw from this well, BP can want, but they won't get. It would be just to risky to tap a defective well. The relief wells have to be drilled even if the temporary cap works, because the only reliable

The current flows have to be studied and it takes time to develop the model. You probably weren't around then, but back in the seventies the COE got all gung ho about building jetties adjacent to inlets and along shallow tourist beaches all up and down the east coast. They had to tear half of them out because in some cases they did the exact opposite of what they were supposed to do. They could easily dredge up a bunch of islands just to have them disappear in six months or they might cause existing estuaries to back up, or they might block channels, or disrupt and destroy thousands of acre
-
It was also determined that large scale dredging without planning or studying the area could itself be an ecological disaster. The Corp of Engineers said that they will study the possibility of protective barriers as a long term protection from weather and possibly oil, but couldn't begin construction in less than a year.

This is from a viral e-mail and a facebook posting. I can not find the quote in ANY reputable newspaper or on ANY reputable website. I did find one Louisiana blogger that said that the statement is taken out of context and was NOT made in response “to those worried restaurateurs facing rising prices for shrimp and oysters.”. He was asked by a person if the shrimp in gulf coast restaurants was safe to eat. He supposedly replied that you should check with the local health department, but that Louisiana wasn't the only place that has shrimp", apparently indicating in his mind that the restaura
