  1. Then we should start seeing more states that will allow civil unions, a definite victory for gay-rights advocates.
  2. This is why I am so glad that someone from the PCSO is on p.com. Thanks for checking this out and keeping our streets safe!!!
  3. Have you taken them to Helen? It's a little bit of a drive so it may not make sense this time. You could do a trip up to Ellijay or Amicolola Falls - I'm not sure when the apple festival starts. Motherhood the Musical starts on 9/20 at the 14th Street Playhouse - it's supposed to be hysterical (but maybe only if you're a mom). September should be a great time to drive into Atlanta and pick a fun place to eat where you can sit outside and people watch and walk around after dinner.
  4. I make redneck stroganoff - beef tips with a can of cream of mushroom soup and a cup of sour cream.... Cook the beef tips with the soup and a can of water (also add salt, pepper and garlic) on low in the crock for 6 hours, add the sour cream, stir and let it simmer while you cook the rice and then serve...
  5. One of my go-to dinners lately has been the frozen terriyaki chicken from Sam's - I can cook it in the oven (takes about 20 minutes) or throw it in the microwave if we're in a big hurry. Make some potatoes and a tossed salad and you've got dinner. Spaghetti is also a favorite if I have time to let the sauce simmer for a little while. For the crockpot - corned beef w/cabbage and potatoes are one of my favorites. I'll cook the beef in the crock pot all day and then transfer it to a big pan when I get home and add the potatoes and cabbage (I like my cabbage cooked until soft - if you
  6. Girl, you are brave... very brave.
  7. Call Metro Garage Doors - we replaced our old garage doors with aluminum doors a few years ago. No problems, the price was great (cheaper than Home Depot) and they even called to follow up after the install to make sure we were happy with them.
  8. I am very happy that you're okay. You're right, it could have been much worse - in May, my nephew was riding a 4-wheeler and he collided head-on in a curve with another kid that was driving a mule. My nephew was sent through the plexiglass windshield of the mule and landed on the steering wheel. He had a shattered hip, multiple fractures in his leg, a broken arm, and lots of bumps, scratches and bruises. He had to be sent via lifeflight from Barnesville to CHOA at Emory for emergency surgery. After the surgery, the doctor told his parents that he was very lucky to have survived, had he hi
  9. Discipline doesn't leave a bruise - this mom had pictures of bruises on her child.
  10. Here is a quote from 11Alive's news story: "The investigation has led them to believe that the visible marks that were received to the child were caused by a suspect, a teacher at the school," said Sgt. Brandon Gurley of the Paulding County Sheriff's Department. "That teacher has been arrested and has been charged with battery." I don't know if the link will work, but here it is: http://dallas.11alive.com/news/news/74855-paulding-daycare-worker-charged-battery-against-5-year-old
  11. Just as this isn't about race, this also isn't a topic about why a child should or shouldn't go to daycare.
  12. No other news about this has been released that I have seen. Praying for everyone involved in this - it's not a situation that any parent or daycare ever wants to have to deal with.
  13. Awesome idea!! If he is serious about playing sports, this would be a great way to teach him that he has to work for the things that he really wants!
  14. I don't know if it's true or not, but she was charged with battery - which has meant actual physical harm to another person to me. I don't know if you can be charged with battery if you encourage others to commit the crime or not. When I saw the story on the news, it implied but came just short of saying that the teacher hit the child.
  15. I think our public school system is deteriorating to the point that more virtual schools will go into business as a home school option. As you see the number of virtual schools grow, you will see public schools trying to come up with an alternative to compete. Personally, we've dumbed down public education so much, why not let the kids sit at home - even without a virtual school, they're not missing much.
  16. My deepest sympathies. Praying for you and your family.
  17. Amen! I posted the link because I was outraged that this happened. We've had too many news stories about abuse in daycares or kids getting left in daycare vehicles. I don't care what the woman looks like, I want to make sure that if the allegations are true, that she is prosecuted. I also want to make sure that any parents that might be considering Greenfield Academy as a daycare provider know about this story so they can make an informed decision. If you want to talk about race, please take it to another thread.
  18. On my last Mustang (a 2002 GT), if the gas cap caused a vapor lock, the car would not start, crank, or turn over at all. If your car won't start, take the gas cap off and try again. I once spent about half an hour at a gas station because the car wouldn't start and a nice guy finally came by and helped me out.
  19. Here's a link to a story I saw on the news last night: dallas.11alive.com/news/news/74855-paulding-daycare-worker-charged-battery-against-5-year-old I'm just astounded....
  20. I'm not saying it will last, but if it does, you just learn to deal with it and go - I had to go to work so it didn't take me lost to figure out the difference between when I was just nauseated and when I was actually going to toss my cookies and I was prepared. If you were commuting to Atlanta on I-20 in the mornings during the second half of 2006 and Jan/Feb 2007, you more than likely saw my car pulled over on the side of the interstate between Thornton Road and Six Flags - it was rare for me to make it all the way to work without throwing up.
  21. I used to roll over to the side of the bed and toss my cookies in a trash can some mornings so I gave up on the drugs. But, I should have bought stock in Hefty because I used to go through at least one box of the small trash can liners a week - I had to keep them in my purse, in the car, at my desk. Mashed potatoes got me through many days while I was pregnant - it was the only thing I could stand the smell of to eat. I couldn't even eat chocolate - it was terrible. However, like every good mother, I do plan on using this against the princess every chance I get!
  22. My "morning" sickness began when I was 2 weeks pregnant and ended about 2 hours before the princess was born 9 months later.... ETA: I tried everything, including prescription drugs... Nothing helped.
  23. I commend him for living up to what he said he would do. HOWEVER, I would not have been the least bit upset if he had said that they were going to keep the tax in place in order to buy books or reduce the teacher furlough days.
