  1. My son was in 5th grade when he got his on and a freshman in HS when he got them off (he's a Jr. now). He had extensive work done in his mouth including 4 surgeries so his experience is not the norm. We used Dr. Justice and we loved his practice. We paid cash in full so we got a discount but, since he required so much work and they knew he would be in braces longer than the average kid, we had to pay more than the average kid would have had to pay. It was around $6,000 in 2003. Don't wait as long as I did - I was 21 when I got mine on and was in retainers when I walked down the aisl
  2. That's a great alternative to wax! So much cleaner than wax and not as dangerous! I'll have to try this. I love Batik!!!!!!!!!!!!!!
  3. Kind of off topic but what's the big deal about being 19 when you're a senior? My kid has a December birthday. He started school at 5 1/2 (4 months before he turned 6). We held him back in 5th grade. He is a Jr. and will turn 18 in December. If he graduates next year (not sure he can pass the graduation tests even though he gets A/B grades in classes) he will be 19-1/2. If he doesn't, he will be almost twenty and still going to school. They can go until they are 21 and he will go until he graduates. Just had to to say that. Never mind me - I'm in a pissy mood today.
  4. My only-lonely is named after the lead singer in Aerosmith
  5. My sisters and I shared a blue and white 1971 (or 1972, not sure) Dodge Dart Swinger! It was a very fast car - too fast for teenagers but cool at the time! The first car I bought for myself was a 1976 Chevy Nova hatchback - lime green!
  6. I didn't realize Carollo's had burned down. I thought the owner, Frank Carollo, died and the wife sold it to somebody. That didn't go over and they sold it to somebody else and and they made it the Magnolia Cafe. I never heard it burned. That was our favorite Italian place. It was REAL Italian. My mom's maiden name was Carollo and when she visited we went to see the owner. They talked and, of course, they "thought" they had some kind of family connection. The food was great and so were the people who owned it and also the staff working there. I miss the original Carollo's.

    open house

Yes, the new addition is very nice. It was cool up on the second floor, too! Hiram was crowded but it is every year at open house. We love Hiram High!!!
  8. I went to the site about an hour ago. It's free, as it always has been. paulding.gov.ga and then go to on-line tax bills.
  9. Three years ago, I got hurt at Home Depot. I was there to get bales of straw and after I paid for them, I was told to wait by the truck where they were kept. I waited and waited and waited. About 30 minutes later, an employee came over to help somebody getting pine straw. I asked if they could help me next and I was told that I could go ahead and start loading it myself and then they would come over and help. My son was there and he started helping, too. As soon as we started dragging bales out, an employee came over to help us. I had a bale in my arms and was turning around to carry the b
  10. My cousin was getting married and the bride was walked down the isle by her father. They stood at the alter for a minute, the bride's father kissed his daughter and turned to go back to his seat. Unfortunately, his shoe got twisted in her very long veil and when he stepped down off the alter, it jerked the bride's head backwards and she almost fell backward off the alter. She twisted around so the veil would come off her head, as her father continued to walk back down the isle, dragging her veil on his foot. Then in the '70's we were at a wedding and somehow the sound system got "conn
  11. I saw a woman braid her daughter's hair - one handed - while she drove with the other hand. It was amazing! I have seen things going on in cars while driving to work that aren't fit to post here on a public board. Lots of people pick their noses at red ligths for some reason. Gross.
  12. Your husband is so lucky he was removed from that situation! Why would pinching a baby make them stop crying? Freak! People like that are in for a smouldering hot eternity. I hope.
  13. I agree. It's so sad what some people do to their own kids.
  14. Yes, they knew he was big and estimated a 9 pounder. He was 9.8 and was 11 days early. They used forceps to get his big head and shoulders out!
  15. My family has large babies, too. My son was 9lb. 8oz. One of my sisters has three boys and they were 9.10, 10.3 and 10.5. If anyone in my family has a baby less than 8 lbs. everyone makes a comment on what a tiny baby it is!! I love chubby babies!
  16. I just switched last year to Accuvue Oasis (sp?). I wear them during the day and not at night. I change them out about every 3 weeks or so because I don't wear them every day. I had always had a problem with very dry eyes in the past and the older I got, the drier my eyes got. But I have not had that problem with these. I don't even use eye drops when I wear them all day. I also got a $100 rebate when I bought a year's supply so that helped a lot. Anyway, they have worked well for me so far.
  17. I would imagine that would get the kid started and then maybe the teacher will give specifics on what type of binders or notebooks he/she wants them to bring in on Monday. Personally, I'm sending my 11th grader with pens and paper and a few folders.
  18. Me, too. Except I use a jar of ready-made chicken gravy instead of soup. I'll try the soup next time and see how we like it!
  19. We were in the lazy river right behind this building when it started to burn. The staff did a great job of getting people out of the area and then out of the park. Nobody argued or got hostile - everyone just walked out. It got a little tight at the entrance to the park because there were so many people trying to leave and the walkway narrowed down at the covered bridge thing. But once you got past that, it went well. I was glad nobody got hurt.
  20. We use e-verifile to do required background checks for our guys who will be working on railroad property. They are not free. It costs us around $60 per employee to do the background check and print their badge.
  21. I had it when I was pregnant 18 years ago. My company sent me to a hand specialist because they thought it was from all the typing I did. The doctor gave me a brace and told me it would go away after I delivered. It did. The brace helped a lot. I would wake up in horrible pain every night. The brace stopped it. Do not let anyone suggest surgery - some people get carpel tunnel instead of morning sickness. It will go away.
  22. We only run our dishwasher about 1x per week. Almost all of our dishes get hand washed because I don't want them ruined in the dishwasher. Clear glass items never go in and I never wash pots and pans in the dishwasher. I iron my clothes every morning. My family hardly ever uses ice so we didn't buy an ice maker with our refrigerator. We use trays and they hardly ever get used, either. On a side note, we don't use cell phones unless it's an emergency. We have Go Phones and I keep mine in my purse turned off until I absolutely have to make a call. I hate cell phones! Yeah,
  23. (totally off topic) OMG!!! Cupcake Pebbles!!!! Where did you get them??????? (nevermind - just saw the Wally World on your post! I'm going !!)
  24. I'm so glad I wasn't the only one who got choked up at the end of Toy Story 3!!!! All I could think of was my son going off to college/leaving home and I had to cry a little! Plus, he had a little cloth Woody doll when he was little that he got in a kids meal from Burger King. Woody is in my cedar chest now - filthy dirty because my son slept, ate and played with that doll in his hand for about two years . He's almost 18 now. The movie was great!
