  1. It looks abandoned and scary. Were there actually people living in the buildings on this street? At the end of the street it looks there is a public school building. Probably built in the 1930s. I just looked at Google maps Street View of Trenton and there are lots of nicer areas. I still wouldn't want to live there but a lot of it looked ok, just a lot older than I prefer.
  2. Reading this post reminded me of some earrings I haven't worn in quite a few years. I just got them out and will put them on. They have the screw backs and feel very secure in my ears. I love these earrings (and matching ring) which were given to me by my father about 35 years ago. He purchased them in South America and they are true topaz stones set in 18K gold. Ask if yours can have the posts threaded as is or if they'll have to be replaced and soldered back on.
  3. I've thought about calling a cleaning service but every time I look around the house I think, "I have to clean up before someone can come in to clean!" I'm serious...I've got 4 kids living here and it seems every surface is covered with someone's papers, clean laundry on the dressers, dirty laundry in the bathroom, toys, school books, electronic devices, and other personal belongings. The closets are pretty full and I'm out of cabinet space. I'll throw things away and stack stuff up to clean but it builds up again before I know it. Suggestions?
  4. Hopefully you were putting her on the plane and she was going back to her own home.
  5. For those of you who get a water bill from Cobb do you actually read and find useful the insert they include in the bill every month? I rarely read it and usually toss it right away. I suggested via the cobbcounty.org website that the publication be discontinued as a cost-cutting measure. I also just signed up for e-mail notification of my bill which I normally pay online. http://brightideas.cobbcountyga.gov/
  6. Cobb County has a link on their main page for citizen suggestions for saving money. I hope that draws some useful ideas. http://brightideas.cobbcountyga.gov/ A quick look through the Cobb County site reveals some programs that sound pretty extravagant considering the present economy and Cobb's large budget shortfall. For example, there is a "Watershed Stewardship" website at http://watershed.cobbcountyga.gov/index.htm that promotes education, grants, workshops, and volunteer opportunities to learn about and monitor watershed quality. Even if volunteers go out and survey the lands and s

  8. At least 3 people on pcom found money yesterday!
  9. I guess the IRS could be that sneaky to put a fake unclaimed account on there to lure someone in. Not a bad idea, actually, as a way to get current addresses and other information on a debtor. The 3 sites I listed are legitimate. The Department of Revenue for the State of Georgia runs one of them. The unclaimed.org site is a clearinghouse of info with links to every state's unclaimed funds office. Missingmoney.com is a commercial venture but the states contract with them to do the listing. There should never be a charge to anyone to collect the funds.
  10. I prefer the unclaimed.org site where you can go state by state to check. Some states take you directly to missingmoney.com though. Search all possible names, change the spelling a little, search by towns where possible, or search by first name. Sometimes these things get lost because something was mixed up. You can PM me the name, if you'd like, and I'll search. I wouldn't expect a penny in return...I just find it fun and a challenge. ETA: also try searching the names of the firms with whom you had investments; sometimes they are listed jointly with the person's name and the holding
  11. Oops, sorry for that, I must have pasted over the links. Here they are: http://www.missingmoney.com/ http://www.unclaimed.org/ https://etax.dor.ga.gov/unclaimedproperty/main.aspx
  12. A few times a year I like to search the following sites for my name and those of family and friends. It's been a long time since I found any for me but I have found some pretty big amounts for others ($5K one time!). On the Georgia site you don't have to put in a city but you can. Also, if you want to see many listings for one town, just put in a single letter like "a" or "e" and the city name and you'll get lots of hits you can review. Typically, you have to get in touch with the agency to find out the amount and details. Here a few I found using the word "dallas" in the name blank
  13. I love when that happens! If anyone wants to search for some missing money, go to these sites: http://www.missingmoney.com/ http://www.unclaimed.org/ https://etax.dor.ga.gov/unclaimedproperty/main.aspx
  14. I'm disappointed that it passed but will just have to accept it. I will watch for the projects to be completed and look for expense reports for the same to see if the county is handling the money properly. At least it's still cheaper to shop in Cobb than Paulding.
  15. Search for and read the Georgia Code of Laws sections 19-8-19, 19-8-20, and 19-8-21. It appears that when you adopt, the young man will lose any rights of inheritence he may have on the side of that biological parent and that family unless they specify him by name. He becomes a "stranger" to them. Just something else for him to think about now rather than regret later and to discuss with the attorney. Publication of the adoption and name change might also be required to protect the rights of any creditors out there. Good luck! http://www.lexisnexis.com/hottopics/gacode/
  16. This race needs an announcer like at a horse race! Unofficial election results - March 15 2011 These Unofficial Results are Incomplete. Still Outstanding: -Some Election Day polling locations SPLOST 147 / 153 Precincts YES 20549 49.93% NO 20605 50.07%
  17. It's going to be a nail-biter. THE TALLY SO FAR IS: SPLOST 108 / 153 Precincts YES 15723 50.16% NO 15620 49.84%
  18. I voted early and cast a NO vote. Hubby plans to vote NO on his way home tonight. I don't have enough of a feeling for it as to whether it will pass. I think many of things on this SPLOST are luxury items and others should just be taken care of with the general fund. Further, until I see meaningful cuts in the general budget I'm not inclined to support any expenditures for life-style additions. I'd like more detail on some of the contracts that have been awarded that sound on their face to be frivolous. For example: http://purchasing.cobbcountyga.gov/downloads/contract-list.pdf 5260
  19. I prefer credit unions also. We don't pay anything for any accounts and their loan rates tend to be a little better. The ATM card can be used as a debit card. Cash withrdrawals at the CU's ATM and any Publix machines are free but limited to about 6 per month. We also use ING online. Interest rate is better than credit union although when we want to take money out it does take about 2 days to transfer to our local account. However, that is good because it makes it less tempting to take it out.
  20. Suggestion: volunteering at a nursing home. Does she play a musical instrument? She could entertain the residents. Would she like visiting the residents, reading to them, writing letters for them, painting their fingernails, creating crafts? Good luck to her.
  21. Noah, who is white, 5-feet-5 inches tall and weighs 120 pounds, was wearing dark gray cargo pants and a gray or black long sleeved, camouflage shirt. He was not wearing shoes. http://www.ajc.com/news/boy-12-missing-in-864318.html
  22. Wow, I'm pretty surprised myself. I feel sad that I found him where I did but at least you have some answers now.

  25. Did you get my PM? Is that him?
