  1. Surprised the second one in Dallas (near the McDonalds) survived. It's only what, 3 miles from the downtown Dallas one?
  2. I don't care what party the Governor belongs to... bait him at your own bill's risk. As to whether the bill should have been vetoed or not I don't know. But as the letter states, the California congress has had better things to work on.
  3. I've used the tax free HRA for several years with my health care plan with good results. Like most things in life, it's a balance. I reduced the health care plan accepting the higher co-pays and balanced that by paying with pre-tax dollars from the HRA. If you have expenses you know are coming up in the next year it's wonderful. We paid for our part of my son's braces through it. My wife is on a couple of long term prescriptions so I put our co-pay or the year in there. Dental and eye care are approved expenses (for the most part, check the plan) so if anyone get's glasses or ha
  4. Unfortunately, the X-700 is too old and doesn't use the autofocus "A" mount. I have one also. That said, I bought the Alpha anyway based on a "try before you buy" promotion they did at a soccer tournament my kids were playing in a couple of years ago and have been pretty happy with it. The 30-80 zoom is very nice and I got it as a combo with the 300 mm zoom. I got the 200 and it seemed to be a good improvement over the 100. SG
  5. I think they stopped for fuel and or food, but with the damage to the grill, I suspect that they figured it was dead and if they popped the hood, they might not get it closed again, so didn't open it until they were home.
  6. Definitely not a pilot, however, have been a passenger many many times and trust the guys up front to be taking care of business. I can forgive falling asleep in the boring middle of the trip more than forgetting what color the main runway is on landing. To me at least, bringing 300,000+ lbs of airplane in contact with the ground at 140 knots is not an action to be treated with contempt not matter how many times you've done it. I know I sweated every landing I made with my radio controlled planes and they were unmanned!! They were just lucky this time that no one was crossing the taxi
  7. Crossroads UMC (meets at Shelton Elem) is a new one in NE Paulding. Kinda a mix between traditional and contemporary. (Conditional? ) Contemporary music, but have traditional Methodist service structure, the Creed, Children's sermon, Communion, etc. We've been going since it was started last October and have enjoyed it. Ken is a loving dedicated Christian pastor. We visited at Dallas UMC before Crossroads opened up, and as of last year, they had both traditional services in the Sanctuary and a contemporary services in the Life Center. Hope Church off of 120 near Hardy
  8. The medical emergency could not have been too bad, or they would have diverted to Miami or some other airport on the way. Besides, these are not parents driving down to Orlando, these are professionals that have 190 other peoples lives in their hands. (and potentially another couple of hundred on the ground if a plane was waiting for clearance to cross the takeoff runway. In any case, how do you not notice you are landing on a 2 mile taxi way outlined in BLUE lights instead of the runway next to it with White lights? Bet their is some heavy bleeping on the tape if they releas
  9. Well at least the guys at Hartsfield were talking to the FAA. These guys just got into a gripe session and flew completely past the city. Crew overshoots destination by 150 miles Oops. Glad they didn't have to be warned about other traffic at the time.
  10. There was some kind of medical issue on board at the time, but surely they wouldn't be *that* distracted. Medical problems seem to occur quite a bit on flights.
  11. AJC Link to Article Wow. As backed up as those taxiways get sometimes, it could have been a huge disaster. How does neither the pilot OR the co-pilot notice he lined up on the taxiway? Time to listen to the cockpit voice recorder maybe?
  12. TV news in Atlanta has become a pathetic joke. "We ask the hard questions!!" - Yea right "Has anyone been sick eating in your restaurant since you got a 65 on your health score?" That is the best they can come up with for investigative reporting? Come on. At least the AJC did some digging on the school test scores and discovered all those schools jumping from worst to first in a single year. That's a reporter doing some digging and finding a story that the state should have found and is slacking on. Dang, never thought *I'd* use the AJC as a positive example of journal
  13. Maybe he's this guys cousin!! Man, I wished they'd invent something to keep the sun out of my eyes!!
  14. And if you get it after all that, you don't care!!
  15. As someone who has just seen over 100K of pension vanish into the maw of the federal Pension Benefit Guaranty Corp (which since it receives no tax money and takes over massively underfunded pension funds is a candidate for bankruptcy itself) I can understand why they were tempted. Losing 500K of pension built up over 30+ years would be a hard pill to swallow. Not that I approve of using the loophole, but I can understand the motivation. It's not their fault that the company underfunded the pension because of idiot money managers promising 20% gains in the market until infinity.
  16. Well, I'm glad he posted it, sorry Pubby, but as we've discussed, I'm not a big fan of video news (or any other type of video information transfer for that matter), so I don't usually sit though the news or any Utube videos posted to try to prove a point.
  17. I had locked in last year just before the crash at $1.19 a therm. In the spring, saw the pricing drop to .839 and pulled the trigger to break the contract and re-lock. (Cost me $50 to break @ Walton EMC, though looking at the chart, almost all have raised the charge to $100+) I figured that the price would rise if we had another hurricane or something, little did I know that it would be the slowest season in years. Just my luck. However, it's not worth it to break it again, besides, looking at the PSC chart, prices are around the same amount anyway. The PSC Fixed rate chart
  18. While taking normal vaccinations don't bother me, I have to agree that I wonder about testing on this one. My company builds hardware/software driven communications equipment and I've seen what major bugs can make it by when testing is minimized to get something out the door. Vaccines are complicated, I don't think rushing them is a good idea in most cases. If this was an Ebola type virus where getting it was a 50%+ chance of death, then yea, problems with the vaccine could be outweighed by the absolute danger of the virus. However, I'm not sure that the death rate of this flu i
  19. Did electronic filing, so didn't get a check. You want to blame someone, look to the dome. No, not the Falcons. The Gold dome. The idiots that write our laws at both the Federal and the State level don't stop to think while doing so, just record a few sound bites about the "good bill" they have authored and go on. I imagine by the law it's MANDATORY that the interest be paid, rather than having been written that only interest over $1.00 or $5.00 be paid or allowing it to be added to the actual refund check. Remember, this next time you are tempted to vote for the d
  20. <off topic> How does she like it there? My son was there for two years and loved it!
  21. Very interesting. Besides, IMO, the dow has very little to do with fundamentals any more, too many people who don't understand it are investing. It's all a matter of sentiment now and as soon as something bad happens, those people will yank their money back out and it will crash again.
  22. Cheap steaks I got from Kroger, baked potatoes, homemade mac and cheese, yeast rolls. Might get a green veggie if I have the time.
  23. Ah, wondered why the kid's bus was late this morning... thanks for the heads up. Hopefully, no one was hurt.
