  1. No, my understanding is it's still closed. I believe she went 61 to 113 to main street Cartersville. I think Harmony Grove to Cedarcrest to 41 is open, but with the US 41 closures in Acworth I was concerned on how backed up it could be. The amazing thing to me is having 285 closed on both sides of Cobb county due to water. Ouch.
  2. Wife reported to me that only the tops of the pine trees were visible as she crossed over Lake Allatoona. Finally found a working website for the lake level, it's jumped 10 ft in the last 36 hours to 850.14!! And is still climbing. In terms of storage, almost 150,000 acre-ft of water have been stopped from rampaging down stream. Top of conservation (full level) at Allatoona is 840 ft, Now, 850 is the highest I've ever seen the lake in the last 15 years or so and I suspect it will rise until Sat at least. Wow. Lake Lanier has also jumped 2.75 ft in 36 hours to 1,067.4
  3. The weather station at PCHS reported 5.6" yesterday and another 5.4 since midnight http://www.griffin.uga.edu/aemn/cgi-bin/AE...DL&report=c
  4. Dang. When I took the picture at noon, the water was still 10ft below the main bridge. That must have been an incredible amount of water!
  5. My son made it home via Cartersville. 41N is down to 1 way north of DBR. 113 is open at this point, but the DOT is inspecting the bridge over the river several times a hour because they are concerned about debris from the old bridges upstream hitting the bridges. If that happens and the bridge is damaged, it could close. 61N was clear from 113 to Dabbs Bridge. SG
  6. Dang. That won't be fixed in a couple of days. Also, if those Fiber cables in the ROW give way, and the alternate route goes also, we could have some serious communications issues.
  7. Just had a report from my son. edited to say: Nevermind... DBR is closed again or he missunderstood the deputy. Also, 92 between 75 and 41 is a mess. He said there were multiple accidents and a car fire there. US 41 north of DBR is reported to be down to 1 lane because of flooding at Pumkinvine. Tanyard Creek road is still open and might be an alternate to 293 and then to 3rd Army rd to 41 at DBR. SG
  8. Son gets off work at 4:00, should know by 5:00 unless 75 is a mess. He is trying the main street exit to 113 to 61 to burnt hickory. My wife will be leaving circle 75 and I need to find a route for her. Only thing that worries me a lot is the bridge over the river. Allatoona is being used to absorb as much water as they can, but it's already predicted to be 10 ft over full by Saturday on the COE site and I don't know how old the warning is: If they thought that last week, who knows how high the lake might get and they might have to use the spillways. Alabama bett
  9. My son is trying to get to 61 and DBR from Kennesaw State, via Cartersville and 113 to 61. I'll let you know what he reports. The Corps of Engineers has on their website that Allatoona will reach 10 ft over full by Sunday, and I don't know how old or out of date that warning may be. Campsites and low roads around the lake may get flooded. SG
  10. Went out to see if I could make it to us 41, doesn't look good, esp with more rain. I'm calling and cancelling my daughers doctors appointment, this is crazy. SG
  11. Harmony Grove at Pumpkinvine Creek New Bridge is OK, old bridge is pretty close. Lots of Debris from upstream. The guys field next to the creek bank was totally flooded.
  12. Harmony Grove RD over the little (not now) creek near NPHS is flooded, I would consider it closed. SG
  13. LOL. I hope that I don't hear that Alabama is complaining about *too* much water being sent down.
  14. Add the reported roof collapse of the water departments fairly new building and you have a complete day!!. Now I can't even get the paulding.gov site to come up... Better go warn the kids not to drink the water... SG
  15. Thanks FB - Got family that will be crossing there later this afternoon. Wondered how water would get that high without bypassing the bridge on the west side. SG
  16. Dabbs Bridge seems to be OK. Wife and Son made it. Do make sure the bridge at Pumkinvine is still there before attempting to cross. SG
  17. Wondering that myself... Wife has a class in Marietta this morning. According to the very unofficial range gauge here (bucket I put out a couple of days ago), we've had a couple of inches overnight at Dabbs Bridge. SG
  18. ouch... where on Dabbs Bridge? <goes to check the doors again> SG
  19. I keep seeing it mentioned as a "soda" tax... what about diet sodas? Would those be taxed also? SG
  20. Chile powder and Worcestershire sauce. Gives it a nice kick (just don't put too much, you end up with chile!)
  21. Great comments!! Thanks a bunch. I noticed that map updates can cost up between $50 to $100... does make it seem better to just get a new unit... Also - screen size --- I'm tempted to get the bigger screen, figuring bigger is always better, For those with 3.5" screens, are you happy with it? If you have had both, which do you prefer? SG
  22. Looked at the kids soccer schedules for this season and we have games all over the state. We got stuck in traffic on 85 last weekend and had no way to find an alternate, so I'm thinking it's time to get a GPS. Looked at the internet and found there seem to be hundreds of different ones out there. If you have one, I'd like to get your opinion of it and if you'd get it again. Thanks, SG
  23. I disabled the multimedia portion also. The possible issues of multimedia texting far outweigh the possible benefits. Also had to lock the 3rd party billing to prevent extra charges against the phone. Remember when cell phones were a convenience, not a problem? SG
  24. I'm pretty sure it's free to file. It's been a while for us, but I'm such a cheepskate, I usually remember anything that costs me money. SG
